She’s not better. She has good days/moments, and she has bad days/moments. She’s not going to get better. She has kidney disease, and she’s going to die. Sorry, but I’m really sensitive about this right now. 😥
My cat Frisky died of Kidney disease. When she hit stage two Doc recommended sub-cutaneous fluids we got 2 more years together. It can be done at home, just be sure the fluids are warm enough. I’m currently doing it with my other senior boy Talisen, he’s better about taking them that Friska was. They get dehydrated because they cannot drink enough water. We give Tali fluids once a week and he seems happy with that. he comes up and has this “the water is broken” meow that lets me know he needs sub-cue fluids.
I’m sorry you have go through this. I wish you much quality time with your Katie-Boo. Quality is better than quantity when dealing with something like this. *hugs*

She was sort of a rescue. I was single then and had bought a house and decided I wanted a tortie cat. I finally got moved in and was going to go look for one when I saw an ad on our work bulletin board for a one-year old tortie named Katie. I called the girl and made an appointment to see Katie. When I went there, she claimed me. The girl had two other cats, but Katie wouldn’t let either one near me. I thought she was weird and decided to think about it and decide later that day, but when I tried to leave, Katie threw herself on her back across my feet and reached up for me. I picked her up, and she started purring, so I brought her home. She’s the perfect fit for me. She is a sweet loving companion who comforts me when I cry and sits and purrs by me when I’m happy. She’s tiny – never got any bigger (turns out she was more like 3 years old when I got her). At the most, she weighed about 8 pounds. Now she’s 5.5 lbs.
Also, the woman who had her worked at the humane society part time. They were going to put Katie to sleep, but the woman thought she was too nice a cat to end. So she took her home for the weekend, and I was her last hope. If I hadn’t taken her on Saturday, she would have been brought back on Monday and she would have been killed. I like to think I gave her eleven more years and lots of love anyway.

Agreed! Thanks for telling that story, it’s always nice hearing of a kitty being rescued in the nick of time, so to speak.
I don’t think I’ve had a cat that wasn’t a rescue of some kind or another. I’m not sure about Mothball… actually I don’t think she was a rescue, just adopted from a litter the neighbors had.

August 10, 2008 at 1:48 pm #726005Well, Katie has taken a turn for the worst. She is throwing up the little she eats, and this morning she wouldn’t eat a thing. She just looks at it. She has also taken to hiding behind the sofa, so I think she is getting ready to leave. Since the hubby and I are leaving for GenCon on Tuesday and won’t be back in a week, we thought it would be kinder to have her put to sleep tomorrow, instead of wondering where we are while she’s in so much misery. And having the pet sitters find her. And my getting the phone call at Con. Although the idea of putting her to sleep just makes me bawl and try to go into denial.
She certainly went downhill fast. It’s hard to believe the vet thought she’d live for three months more at least. I don’t know what I’m going to do without her. 😥
Katie in healthier days.

August 10, 2008 at 6:30 pm #726012I’m sorry to hear that – now I am crying – but unfortunately people live longer than animals and every pet owner has faced this heartbreak at some time or another. My best to you.
August 10, 2008 at 6:33 pm #726013I’m sorry Emerald, it does sound like she has let you know. I wish you the best in remembering her from better days.
