How is she today?
August 3, 2008 at 3:57 pm #725970She peed the bed last night. She’s never done that before. My friend said she thinks Katie’s kidneys are failing from the anesthesia earlier this year. It’s a rock and a hard place for me because I had to get her tooth removed; there was no way around that. But it damaged her kidneys.
Holy crap! That was a big lightning strike. I gotta go. I’ll check in later.
August 3, 2008 at 4:52 pm #725971That sucks, Em… been there done that with another cat, it’s not fun for you or the cat. Are you going to get bloodwork done?
August 3, 2008 at 5:16 pm #725972Hi, I’m back. Storm is over.
I’m having the bloodwork done. I’m just waiting for the results. They thought Monday or Tuesday. I spoke to the vet asst Friday, and they didn’t have all the results yet, so I just have to wait.
August 3, 2008 at 5:28 pm #725973Yeah that was a pretty big storm that rolled through for you!
Here is a cool weather site…
I hope all is well with your kitty.
Our Mouser will pee in other places but only if she is in heat OR if she thinks her cat boxes are “Not clean enough” for her… 🙄 lol

Yeah. This is the message from above.

Katie has peed on the floor if she thinks the cat box is not clean enough, but never on the bed or furniture. This was an unuaual thing. I think she couldn’t get off the bed in time.
August 3, 2008 at 7:37 pm #725976Could also be a UTI, that’s how we knew Jubilee had her second round of UTI. It’ll also weaken the bladder for a while.
August 3, 2008 at 10:20 pm #725977My cat goes on the floor (poo, not pee) but we think it’s linked to separation anxiety, not litterbox cleanliness. She only does it if we go AWOL all day. 🙄

Our cat did that a couple of times last year, never done it before. she’s also older, about 15 so we took her into get blood work done too. The doctors think that she’s just drinking more at night but doesn’t realize that the older she gets, the smaller her bladder get and just didn’t figure out that she needs to go more often. Luckily there was only the couple of times.
Hope Boo is better, is she still eating?
August 4, 2008 at 2:45 am #725979Hope your kitty is doing better. Unfortunately it sounds like time is running out on the clock…take it one day at a time and you’ll know when it is time to let her go. *hugs*
My snugglelovecat Zinc is 18 years old this year and atm is doing okay, but I know I’ll be lucky to have him another 2 years at best. Each life is different, we just have to be grateful for the time we’re given.
I hope that she can recover and be well for a few months longer to give you more time, since you are obviously not ready to say goodbye to her yet. But if she can’t, you know we’re here and will give you the love and support you need to make it through.
*hugs*

August 4, 2008 at 3:30 pm #725980I appreciate that so much! 🙂
August 4, 2008 at 4:47 pm #725981What Kyrin says is good advice. As much as we hate to lose them I found that in most cases the animal themselves will let you know when it is time to let them go. I do hope Katie Boo gets better and you have her for a long time.
August 4, 2008 at 5:39 pm #725982Well, the vet just called with the blood test results. Katie has stage 2 kidney disease. She shows no sign of a UTI at this time. They want to check her blood pressure to see if she needs medication for it because it could speed up the disease.
I’m torn about the blood pressure medicine because I don’t want to see her suffer, but I don’t want to extend it any if she’s just going to be in pain longer. So, I’m not sure what to do. I just keep crying and I can’t seem to stop. I think I just need some time to think about it.
August 4, 2008 at 5:46 pm #725983I wouldn’t say that kidney disease cats are in pain, persay. They seem to feel a bit blah, and not quite as they were when their kidneys were normal, but they have never seemed painful in my opinion.
It’s a manageable thing for a little while, with the proper diet (a low protein prescription food) and sometimes subcutaneous fluids every couple of days (which you could learn to do at home). You need to make an appointment with your vet and discuss your options and decide whether or not you want to try to manage it.
I’m sorry about the news and I wish you the best, whatever decision you make.
