I think it depends on what you’re using to paint with. If you’re using acrylics, you usually only have to wait maybe 2 days or so at most. But if you’re using something else it would be different. I’m not sure for other mediums. I’ve only ever used acrylics and their sealers. I know certain enamels take a long time (1-2 weeks) to finish drying (sealing them too soon can cause bubbling/scaling).
This isn’t my first PYO, but it is my first swap. So from one newbie to another, good luck! XD

Thanks!
I am using Acrylics, so I’ll play it safe and count on 3 full days for the paint to completely dry before sealing. Then after sealing I guess I glue in the eyes – correct? The Tutorial PDF is written before the current PYO pieces, where the eyes were already in place on the PYO piece when bought.IN SEARCH OF MY NEXT GRAILS:

Read my books! Volume 1 and 2 of A Dragon Medley are available now.

http://www.sarahjestin.com/feedbacklists.htmOctober 9, 2013 at 4:41 pm #904011Oh! If the eyes in your piece aren’t too snug, you might want to consider putting a very thin layer of paint on the inside edges of the eye socket. On my first PYO I didn’t, and if you look at her from the right angles you see a white rim around her eyes. But I would be cautious about that, too much paint might keep the eyes from popping into their sockets if they’re especially snug. As for gluing, Elmer’s glue should be good enough to use. I’ve had good luck with it.

Thanks for the advice! I did try the eyes in before I started painting , and they fit well without being too tight or falling out. I also put a very light coat of paint in the sockets, because I wasn’t sure if I should leave any blank gypsum. I did the same on the underside of the PYO’s base. I assume the felt will still stick okay after spraying/painting the clear coat finish.🙂

Not a problem! I imagine the felt will stick just fine with paint or without. I use Elmer’s for that too.

I know how you feel! I hope the person I’m painting for likes what they get from me too. Though if they don’t like it, I wouldn’t mind taking it back. 😉 I almost don’t want to give my PYO away. But when the time comes, I promise I will.

October 18, 2013 at 6:25 am #904387Mine also finally arrived! Alas, I have to wait until I get a day off to work on it though. (A few more days then! Thank goodness I am a quick draftsman!)
It’s so crazy – this is my first time ever seeing a PYO in person and I must say, I am in LOVE! It doesn’t even have a lick of paint on it but I already adore it and I hope my swap partner will like what I turn it into. 🙂
The seed of an addiction has sprouted haha.
