I think the problem is that the seller will want to recoup their lost funds too- it sounds like a case where it was packaged well enough but the USPS smashed the heck out of it and the seller wants to claim insurance so that neither they or the buyer loses money. In this situation- with a USPS claim- the USPS will take the dragon (and, as I understand, will likely discard him).
The only way to find out for sure it talk to a manager at the USPS.
Thanks Nam…I think I will give them a call tommorrow and see what I can figure out…I really don’t wnat them to take him and toss him out

December 28, 2007 at 2:45 am #650463I’m sorry about your emp…that’s such a shame. If I had the talent, I would fix him up for free for you just cuz I feel so bad for you. Hopefully you can get him fixed. I would def. have it out with the post office…that’s just me though. good luck to you!
My most wanted list: Peacock kitty wizard, carnelian mouse wizard, copper patina frog wizard, autumn leaf poads, pumpkin spice kitties

December 28, 2007 at 6:05 am #650466I’m sorry he got broken, mmloda, but at least the seller is being agreeable. Let us know what you do. I hope there’s a way you can keep him and have him fixed.
December 28, 2007 at 6:12 am #650467That really sucks mmloda! I’m expecting an emperor in the mail also. It’s a peacock, so it’s no where as rare as yours but I’m keeping my fingers crossed, and expecting the worst, especially after THIS! The seller has his original packaging though, and double boxed…so hope it makes it here OK. I’m sooo sorry about yours though! The old green ones are hard to come by, and I hope you can get him fixed!
December 28, 2007 at 6:39 am #650468That really stinks. 🙁 Hope that you can get him repaired!
December 28, 2007 at 7:32 am #650469I’m so sorry to hear about that :///

The seller is going to get in touch with me tommorrow after he talks to his post office.I am so confused and dissapointed right now…I have no clue what to do…. 😕
Oh no! MMdola, I’m soooo sorry 🙁 he *IS* very beautiful. :- I wouldn’t mess with the post office though. They WILL take the dragon and he’ll sit in a wharehouse somewhere and you’ll never get your money back on him. I think he’s totally fixable in the hands of someone who knows what they’re doing! 🙂December 28, 2007 at 10:42 am #650471That’s a shame, mm. Best of luck with whatever you decide…

Absolutely. If I’d shipped it, I’d have already spent the money and would not want to be refunding half the original value out of my pocket when it was insured through the USPS.
The way to handle it is to file a claim with the USPS not for the item itself, but for repairs to the item. USPS will gladly pay the lesser of the retail value of an item, its cost if replaceable, or the cost of repairs. If you claim for something like 75% of the original insured amount, as repairs to a non-replaceable statue, they will let you keep it after it has been examined by an employee at your Post Office.

But will things work differently with having the Canadian Post Office thrown into the mix?December 28, 2007 at 6:09 pm #650475The Castle [Dave wrote:“]

They can make it through the mail fine. I found Ruby one in SanJose and got him for a Forum mamber and had to ship him 2 states and of course I had to re box him since the store did not have the box but he got there fine and I have had 3 sent to me from Nevada with no problem and then my White one came from e-bay and I can’t remember from where but again perfect and my Emerald came from a store in Ohio I think it was and again no problems. If I tried to ship the Ruby in the box they shipped him in he would have been dust
It’s still VERY sad that you have to go thru this though I’m sorry for that
