October 4, 2014 at 3:02 am #920109Beautiful Lorbailey! Your top left fox is one of my top favorites 🙂

Please visit My Webpage to see my art and PYO's that I've done in the past!October 4, 2014 at 7:12 am #920112Mine’s taken a side trip to Los Angeles! I hope it doesn’t stay there long. I guess it really wanted to see some palm trees before settling down in Canada with me and my more northerly climate. Maybe it doesn’t know that we wear sunscreen here in the summer too…
My shipments from Windstone always go through California, most times its via San Francisco, but the last time it was via LA. Mind you the times it went through San Francisco, the service type was Priority Mail International Parcel, and it then normally went to customs in Richmond.
The one time it went through LA the service type was First-Class Package International Service- since it was a smaller package and I didnt pay for more expensive shipping. It then hit customs in Montreal, and took 5 days to leave there… they seem slow in Montreal. I dont think you’d have to worry about yours going to Montreal though, since your not down this way, lol ! But it almost seems like it depends on the service type used, be it priority or first class etc., which then decides which USPS facility it gets directed to.
I guess I wont know for certain until I make enough orders from Windstone to verify the pattern Im seeing with shipping, lol ! All I know right now is my foxes are in San Francisco, and that I did pay for the more expensive shipping this time (Priority) .. hoping that this makes it a tad faster than the almost 3 weeks it took for my fishy cat to reach me in NS 😉
I think mine generally go through LA or San Francisco, then Richmond usually and after that it usually only takes about a day or two to get to me, depending on if it hits Richmond on a Friday. I still always find it odd that the packages go so bizarrely far and illogically out of the way (kind of the wrong direction foxy!) sooo… fun with shipping stuff to Canada I guess haha! One time the tracking got lost at the border; that was special haha. I’m guessing my fox might get here to BC next week if I am lucky. It’s weird but I haven’t even thought about what colour I am hoping it will be, just that I am crossing my fingers for cute white markings! There’s been some real adorable ones showing up on this thread already and some more regal showstoppers too. 😀

Excellent!
October 4, 2014 at 7:17 am #920115I love yours Leigha! I also like your red one Lorbaiey7! Since I am in Alberta, I always get first class mail to save money on shipping and my packages always get sent from Corvalis to L.A. and then end up in Richmond, B.C. and then arrive here in Calgary. They sometimes arrive in one week but sometimes take more like two weeks depending how long they are in L.A. or how long they take to get through customs. My foxes should be here next week sometime after the weekend.
Looking for rainbow or pink & teal grab bags!

The top right Fox is my #1 I do believe, grats…:)
Edit – After looking over the class pic, I think my #1 is lighter. Though, the one you got is a close second on my list…;)

Im guessing that they go to LA or San Fran as likely thats where the major postal centers are that process the mail, then they board a plane at that city’s airport for a trip to Canada 😉 And maybe thats where the airports are that handle the mail. And I havent been thinking too much on my foxes either, I honestly think I would love anything I get, but I do like the darker ones 😉

Kim your lucky getting it in a week, its 2 to 3 weeks for me 😉 I was wondering though if you guys always get hit by customs fees? This time I went for the priority shipping, and seen that it entered customs and cleared customs in 8 mins…. I wonder if that means I wont get hit by customs this time ! *crosses fingers* . I have never seen it pass through that fast before, and if I dont get charged it will be a first time for me! If thats the case, and if the reason is because I paid more for priority shipping, then I may pay for that more often. So just wondering if your using first class mail, do you ever get away without paying customs?
October 4, 2014 at 6:10 pm #920133Gorgeous color on that red! Love it! And your Arctic is a lil cutie too!

I’ve never yet been dinged for customs on a windstone and I always choose the cheapest shipping. I kind of think part of it is luck. Dunno. I was charged shipping on a ring that I ordered and a hoodie, but never on a windstone. Yet, anyway. 🙂 (Hopefully it never comes to ‘yet.’)

Lucky you! I got charged a total of $60 so far… for just 2 orders… really cuts into my play money 🙁
October 5, 2014 at 7:28 am #920168Ouch! I think I’ve gotten charged $30 in total over the years? The ring was $22 I think actually… I’m really hoping that I continue to be lucky. I’ve sent a few things to the states and my recipient hasn’t had to pay anything either as far as I know.

Amstaff, what was the value on the boxes you got or how big were they? I have almost never been charged customs on any small boxes sent with first class international mail but I did get charged customs a couple times on bigger boxes with higher values which were my grab bag young unicorns and adult poads from a while back. I don’t think the shipping makes a difference actually. They pick boxes at random to charge customs on and my guess is they pick bigger ones thinking they are a higher value. Out of 80 pieces I have had shipped to me from the U.S. in the last two years I think I have maybe paid customs like 4 times. It will probably even out once you buy more that you probably won’t be charged on unless maybe they are bigger or more valuable. As a note, if you trade for or buy pieces from forum members, if they mark them as a gift, you won’t get charged customs. I also have people mark a lower value for grab bag pieces so even if I get a grab bag worth like $200-$300, I will have them mark it as under $100 value unless it’s a bigger piece and I want insurance on it. I generally don’t have small pieces shipped with insurance because as long as they are double boxed well, I have never had a single one arrive damaged.

October 5, 2014 at 5:32 pm #920180I feel as if I have hijacked this thread… so sorry !
I have only made 2 orders from Windstone so far. The first was a larger box and was valued at $100, the second a small box but valued over $150. I got dinged on both of those. My foxes that are enroute are also over $150, so I also may get hit with customs, but where it seemed to pass through there so fast, according to tracking, maybe I got lucky? I will know next week hopefully… Guess I should place orders of a smaller value to avoid customs fees? I just wanted to get a much as I could in an order, to make good use of the shipping fees. (And yes, I will surely mark any I send to the US, as gifts with a lower value, to avoid causing fees. I also know that getting them sent to me marked this way is helpful to, if bought via private sales or trades.)
It just seems lately that Canada Customs are charging more and more parcels as of late… and the handling fees for customs have also gone up, from like $5 to $10, which is added onto the customs fees… the Gov’t is trying to make extra money to pay off their debts… arrgh ! :/
