Honestly, compared to other sites, Windstone’s is one of the best though as far as cart issues. I can’t tell you how many times on other sites I have bought something and then found out weeks later that item wasn’t available, not only that, but then forced to wait weeks for a refund for an item I apparently never bought.
ARGH! This!!!! I bought a stylized figure that was in short supply, only to find out they ran out right around the time it was supposed to be delivered. Weeks later, I get a refund for something they had no stock of.
This Store, is not THAT.
I’ve also had serious bursts of rage trying to do grab bag style sales on Facebook livestreams such as Spirithoods sample sales. OMG Forget it. I won’t even watch them any more. The only time you can ever get anything is if you have the absolute best internet connection because with the video lag it’s impossible to buy anything because it all goes by time stamp on the chat of basically saying “Yes, I want that!” People are already buying an item before I even know what’s for sale.
Melody and Susie most def do the best job to run a functional store. Even when there are glitches, in the long run the website is still very efficient as it has evolved over the years.

It’s not always about the fastest internet connection, but I do share in your frustration. Let’s not forget those who run scripts on their favourite sites. There are people who do it here. I’m sure you can imagine who

July 28, 2019 at 4:29 pm #1574709I do agree. This is by far my favorite site. And I also agree Drag0n, that maybe a small batch of special pieces does sastify the need of some collectors to know what they are getting. After all, our pretties are an investment.

Sun Dragon Koi #3July 28, 2019 at 5:43 pm #1574714Another point is individual sales might lead to higher prices for certain grabs. They are no longer grab bags if you know what you are buying. They are special items, and those should sell for a higher price because they require more man power. Which would be totally reasonable because Windstone needs to cover their costs. And most important, this needs to be fun for Melody. Fun equals creative genius. And we like it when Melody is creating.
Perfect example is this GB Cougar experiment… The Individual Cougar GB ‘Specials’ were $280, the regular blind GB Cougars are $265. Those who got to ‘choose’ their Cougar paid a little more for the privilege. If I go for a higher priced $225+ Grab Bag it usually is for a sculpt I really enjoy and has a lot of color schemes/patterns I truly love within the total number, so if I don’t get one of my top favorites I will still enjoy what I end up with – or will have some luck with trading.

Windstones are a stretch for me, and I feel much more comfortable spending a bit more for what I know I will love. Hats off to the Windstone staff for this great idea.
July 29, 2019 at 3:04 am #1574757I liked that the specials didn’t cost too much more than the grab bags. Luckily I was able to get one I loved but I feel kind of bad for those who weren’t able to get one because the specials were gone like two minutes after the email came out. If I hadn’t happened to see the email at that exact time I wouldn’t have gotten one. In the future maybe Melody could try a larger special batch instead of a grab bag so there would be maybe 100 special pieces people could pick from so people would have more options and more time to pick one and more people would be able to pick one they like.
Looking for rainbow or pink & teal grab bags!
July 29, 2019 at 7:29 am #1574778Unfortunately the Specials take the WS staff time to photograph and post them individually so I doubt a large number will be done. However I agree that some pieces presented/sold in this way is a nice idea as long as the quantity is manageable for Windstone and also gives us fans a chance to get a Special. It can be frustrating though, like the really popular earlier GBs where the rush slams the website making it slow or non-responsive on phones/PCs and stock is gone in like, 5 – 10 minutes or less. Another reason I’m now probably only going to participate in GBs for sculpts I really really like or aren’t over $225.
I thought what was done for the Kickstarter leftover Poads and Tadpoads was a nice option – Take a ‘class’ photo with them marked and email Windstone with first/second choices. Then first email request got the piece. I don’t believe this would really work too efficiently for Windstone to be considered as an option when launching a new GB, but I think it would be nice to do this for GBs that have stayed in the store for a while – maybe like when a GB hasn’t completely sold out after a week? Then a ‘left over’ photo can go on the Sculpture’s page to see what is left?

Sigh … no, they weren’t gone two minutes after the email came out. They may have been in carts, but six became available 45 minutes later and joined six others that were still in the store. It took two hours before 23 of the cougars were sold, and one is still languishing in the store.
Personal gripe – I wish that people who know how the system works would try to educate newcomers about the store. It must be very frustrating to look at the store and see “Read More” and ASSUME that everything has sold. Continuing to watch the store often means that you can get one later.
Grab Bags 101
1 – If you look at the store and see “Read More”, do NOT assume that means everything has sold. If something is in a cart and the person does not check out within 45 minutes, the item will go back into the store.
2 – The store is set up to tell you how long until an item will reappear. Clicking on something will either give you the message “Out of Stock” (they really are all gone), or “All items are in carts, Check back in in XXX minutes …”
3 – If you continue to watch the store usually you will see “Add to Cart” reappear 45 or 50 minutes after the Grab Bag starts. Then you will have a chance to buy whatever you are hoping to get.
4 – If you miss that round, continue to watch and you probably will get another chance later. They are not sold out until the “Out of Stock” notice appears when you click on something.
5 – Tip for watching the store … Sometimes grab bags will change location on the store page once they are all in carts. This happened with the fantasy giraffe cougars. Instead of being at the beginning of the “Grab Bag” page with the fantasy and fire cougars, they acted as if they were sold out and moved farther down the page. However, they were not actually sold out for another hour and would show the “Add to Cart” message when any were available.I hope that this is not too confusing and makes sense to a newcomer. Feel free to ask questions, add or clarify something!

I’m so excited, too! I have 1 fire, 1 giraffe, and 4 fantasy GBs coming. I have so many favorites, I’m really hoping to grab the ‘forest fire’ silhouette in that lot, and/or the black cat with purple feathers. If I get ones I don’t care for they will definitely be up for trade for faves or sale. Good luck, everyone!

DRAGONS: Male CoyoteJuly 29, 2019 at 12:23 pm #1574847I wasn’t able to get any more of the after the limit was lifted but mine are at my post office box waiting to be picked up, but I’m at work. WAH! I’ll have to grab them tomorrow. I got 1 giraffe and 1 fantasy and River Ripples from the 24 that were listed individually. If I didn’t get one of the two giraffe I wanted that will be for trade for another fantasy. I have my top picks posted already. I want a Lisa Frank Leopard <3
And Etruscan hit the nail on the head with her post. Items can be in carts for up to 45 minutes, or if someone doesn’t let the cart expire and decides to change their mind and they remove it from their cart it will reappear in the store again. Technically speaking, the special 24 are even still NOT sold out. Yes, you had to be quick and invest time and extra funds. Sometimes people will be able to and sometimes they won’t. You can’t please everyone, but I think the majority liked this experiment. Doing it for 30+ individual pieces though would be a ton of extra work on Windstone’s part with photos and having to list them all individually. If they did list more then that I would expect a higher price increase then just $15 bucks for the luxury of picking your piece.

July 29, 2019 at 2:27 pm #1574853Mine came just as I was leaving for a doctor’s appointment. We all know doctors are never on time, so I rushed to open them before I left.
My first choice in the individuals was “Spiffy Spots” but I wasn’t home when they hit the store. I was able to get a distant second choice though, Bird Bath. His coloring is considerably deeper, richer, darker, in person. He is absolutely stunning, and I couldn’t be happier with him. If I had known how gorgeous he really is, he probably would have been my first choice. Hopefully everyone else will be happily surprised too.
