Rocks
seashells

keychains
stamps
coins
drinking glassesAnd probably other stuff I can’t think of right now.
What kind of boxes do you collect?
I like to beach comb no matter what beach I go to. It’s like a treasure hunt: -)

Oh yeah. Add them to my list. 🙄 😆

http://featherdust.critter.net/jewelryhtml/I have a bunch more done, just can’t upload them until I get back home! 🙂
OOHHH! oh wow! I wrap stones in silver wire too, but it never crossed my mind to try it with opals!I was too scared of scratching them….but I will be getting a lot of opals that are not drilled and will need some form of setting..so I might have to try it. you seem to use a heavy gage of wire, do you ever scratch one?
Those are so pretty. I have seen stones wrapped like this in the flea market and bass derby but yours definately have a certian style to them. The same quality of wrapping i find in my Jewlwery book.Where do you get you opals from? if you do not mind my asking of course.
April 12, 2007 at 8:14 pm #560594Nam, do you do gold wraps on any of your jewelry?
April 12, 2007 at 9:22 pm #560595Koshi, I get my opals from a few miners direct from Australia. That’s why I have so many boulder opals. Even when buying them this way they are not inexpensive,! Where do you get your opals? I use DS (deadsoft) wire and so far I have been very careful not to scratch the opals. I use labradorite a lot too and it’s even a little softer than opal so I have to be really careful. I use a heavier gage wire because I like to make sure the stones are secure and won’t go popping out of the setting if a wire gets bent! 😆
Nessiemom, I sometimes thought about using the gold filled wire (real gold with a stronger core, not the same as gold plated, which can rub off) but it’s so much more expensive that I don’t think I’d be able to sell much with the gold wire. Plus, I really don’t like yellow gold, and I decided when I started making jewelry that I’d only work with stuff that I liked/interested me, so that I would always make the best quality work I could. 🙂 If someone really wanted a gold wrapped piece I could special order some though!
If I get good at this, perhaps I will look into white gold filled wire though! I like white gold. 🙂I collect boxes too, my closet is literally crammed full with ones I keep so I can ship stuff back to the Factory! It’s a huge paper-cut nightmare in there! 😆

My art: featherdust.comApril 12, 2007 at 10:04 pm #560596I just don’t usually wear silver, so that’s why I asked… I may have to change that, though… There are a couple of pieces I really liked!
April 12, 2007 at 10:59 pm #560597That is very Handy. This is the site right here, http://www.opalauctions.com/
Lots of opals and sometimes you can get them for insanely cheap! I mean 2 and 5 dollor Opals that are nice brightly colored and pollished. You can also get all sorts of other gems from there too.Ok, I am going to have to go get some of that wire and try it out. I use a smaller Gage but like you siad, stones can pop out…especialy when it is an oval cut and you are trying to make it so the wire shows off your opal and not hide it or cover it.
I saw some of your labradorite peices, labradorite is such a pretty stone. but so soft.I have not tried gold yet, I love the look of silver with most stones myself.
April 13, 2007 at 5:48 am #560598Haha, I used to collect marbles…but I lost them all 😆
No, I really used to. I have a jelly-jar full from my childhood. I only liked the translucent ones that, when looked through, while pointed at a light source, looked pretty. Even if they weren’t so appealing from the outside. My secondary collections include,
My Little Ponies (have like 300 )
Things associated, like Dream Beauties, and Fantasy Fillies
Breyers
Nice/decent quality faries (Fairy Glen & Nene Thomas)
Colored glass
French items
Music Boxes
Dragons of course
Moon and Star stuff
“Cow Parade” Wolves
and MUSHROOMS! (good to eat AND collect!)I want to collect TV Lamps from the 1950’s. Saw one in an antique store and fell in love. I found one on ebay too, but I always get outbid. Its a Siameese Cat lamp (well two different ones actually)
I’ve seen a few really pretty or cute TV Lamps, but since I’m not a big die-hard collector yet, a lot of the other ones I like go for $100 and up so…meh.I got this awesome book about Robots from the library, and I want to collect Robots SO bad…but maybe when I get caught up on Windstones 😆
As for the Bryers, I LOVE the halloween series. Only have 1 though. Not a super Breyer collector…only have maybe 10-13 Ive collected in the last 8-10 years. Every time I go into this little toy store by my house, (the only place in the area that I know still carries them) I always think “Man, when I get some money, I’m coming back to buy THIS one and THAT one and ooh! THIS ONE for sure!”
Kioshii, I LOVE your room! I could spend all day in there looking at all your artwork and jewlery. WOW! 🙂
April 13, 2007 at 10:22 am #560599I’ve seen a ’50s Siamese cat lamp, Wolf – it’s cool! I love Siamese cats, but my husband says they are too nutty and evil. hehe I have had to settle for a Si and Am (from Lady & the Tramp) cookie jar and a set of salt and pepper shakers. Poor me:-/
April 13, 2007 at 1:23 pm #560600Hey lamorte, nice avatar! I like it a lot better than your last one – and it fits your name nicely. 😀
April 13, 2007 at 2:56 pm #560601I was trying to figure out what it was, but now I suddenly see it. It’s great! Ach! Old age… *note to self: “must get eyes checked, see if lasik wore off”*
