At least I have a Calico Cat statue that Melody looked at Claire’s pic to paint. It means a lot to me.
And she could be good for a while yet. She seems to have more energy now, so I’m still hopeful that she’ll be around for a while.
October 8, 2008 at 2:32 am #734339It seems I spoke too soon last time….
Bad things always happen in bunches… it’s someone’s cruel sick joke of kicking us while we’re down… (went through something similar a couple of years ago).
*hugs* I’m so sorry… there’s just nothing else I can think to say.. and it sucks about the fish too… 😥
October 8, 2008 at 4:11 am #734340I’m SSSOOO sorry to read this. They say deaths happen in 3’s why are all 3 hitting you at one time I don’t know.

October 13, 2008 at 10:29 pm #734347OK. Here’s an update:
Claire is done with her upper respiratory infection as well as the antibiotic, which I’m sure she is really happy about. I gave her a washcloth and brush bath, so she is sparkly clean. Her surgery incision is healing nicely and has scabs still on some of it, but the rest looks like it’s even past that point in the healing process.
She is eating more and playing with the laser pointer. She sleeps in my arms at night and cuddles, which she hasn’t done in about a year. She purrs more and begs for food from our dinner plates, which she has NEVER done. Her demenour is bright and happy.
However, she has two little patches on her head where there is no skin. These just appeared last night. One of them has no wound of any kind; it’s just missing fur. The other has a small, what looks like a puncture wound or a scratch, but there’s more bald spot than wound there.
I have no idea what could have caused this. I am going to ask my vet tomorrow when I bring Tasha in for her spaying surgery, but I thought I’d ask here first in case someone knows something. I know there are some vet’s assistants or previous vet’s assistants here, so maybe someone knows.
If one of the other cats did it or she scratched herself, both would have a wound. If it’s just stress, why is there a wound? I’m so confused. 😕

i know its different for cats then humans , but i have been on meds that make me itch like crazy to the point of opening myself up . Medication can / and will do a lot of weird things to you . I think half my symptom may have come from the meds fixing one thing and screwing up another

Danny may have something there. She could also be overgrooming that spot, cats do that when stressed.
The scratches could have come from enthusiastic playing (on kitten’s part) with the kitten. 🙂
And I am so very sorry that the tumor wasn’t benign…as long as her quality of life is pretty good, I would just cherish the time you have left with her and avoid putting her through chemo or further surgeries, even if you find you can afford to manage it. Having her reasonably healthy and able to cuddle, play with you and kitten, etc is worth more than the extra few days or weeks putting her through that would be.
*hugs* My heart goes out to you though!

October 14, 2008 at 1:23 am #734350I agree with overgrooming/overenthusiastic playing on kitten’s part…. the overgrooming would have caused the bald spots, and the overenthusiastic playing would have caused the wound. It might just be a coincidence that they are in the same spot.
But asking is always good. Better to be safe eh?
October 14, 2008 at 2:44 am #734351I’m not sure about the overgrooming theory. The spots aren’t really worn away fur, it’s more like the fur just disappeared in almost perfectly round circles, right on the top of her head.
She hasn’t let the kitten near her yet – still hisses at her, so I’m not sure about that too.
I’m going to start her on Prednizone, but haven’t yet. I’m not going to give her chemo. There’s no sense putting her through that.
Thanks for the ideas, though. I’ll still ask the vet tomorrow.
October 16, 2008 at 7:43 pm #734352Any news, Em?
