Congratulations! The Kitsune turned out well. I especially like how the face and back of the head turned out. The marking pattern is quite nice.

I really loved painting this guy, and now want to buy more of these so I can play away with different color schemes. I also gotta do one that has actual fox colors, 😉
November 25, 2014 at 6:17 pm #922251So I ended up adding a tad more color in some places, like his legs. Then sealed him with Krylon, so I wanted to show some finished pics 🙂

December 12, 2014 at 6:52 pm #922938So here is my Kirin I been working on. He has gradually been coming to life, as I been having a hard time on deciding how to actually paint him. The brownish color on his side scales is really iridescent, but its hard to tell in the photos. I think I may spray him with clear gloss coat now, then TRY to antique him. As I think he needs this to help him pop. Any tips or advice on what this guy needs to help me finish him off?
December 12, 2014 at 7:17 pm #922941He looks fantastic. I love how you put stripes on the tail. And I do think some antiquing will help, yeah.
December 12, 2014 at 10:20 pm #922958I think the kirin looks great! Very nice colors. Antiquing would look good I think…but to mention a personal preference…I think using black antique on white ends up looking dirty. At least, that’s what I felt after I used it on a griffin I did awhile back. T_T I learned something from that at least.

Looking for rainbow or pink & teal grab bags!
December 13, 2014 at 2:57 am #922980See, I’d go for a medium brown antiquing, which I think would look okay over the stripes too.
December 13, 2014 at 7:01 am #922985Thanks for the tips and compliments 😉 He has been a work in progress for quite some time now, I even had to put him aside and did the Kitsune to change things up. I finally got motivated enough to get back at him though 😉
I do want to antique the side scales, I was thinking a dark brown color, and may try antiquing over the white stripes in a lighter color. I was thinking the antiquing of them may give them a more real appearance, but only a very light antique.
The main issue for me is the black mane, I find it too solid of a color which to me hides the details. I would like to antique this with a lighter color, but am unsure … is this something that is commonly done, or do people not antique dark areas with a lighter color?
