Congratulations Etruscan! And love the rock dragon. I wonder if this means there will be an Oil Spot rock dragon as well……
Gasp! That would be spectacular!
Life is beautiful.
January 21, 2016 at 6:30 pm #940273I’ve never liked the spectral eyes. Saying that, the new sitting spectral in Cosmic Shift is gorgeous! Somehow the eyes are just fine for me in that color. I may have to seriously think about this one!
Love baby kirins, safari poads, mini keepers, and anything BLUE, BLUE, and, oh yes, BLUE.

I think because some of the paint is color shift and then spectral eyes are also color shifting. The concept seems to match together quite well. Plus I love all the silver accent spots on this guy.

12 pounds shipping weight. It’s not on the eBay listing, but here in the postponed production section of the store.

January 21, 2016 at 10:57 pm #940285I do agree that both the male and sitting spectral look spectacular! I’m still holding a candle for a lap/old warrior in cosmic shift though, since I want one of those sculpts.
And as much as I love the cosmic shift scheme on the sitting spectral…ugh…sitting spectrals. They remind me of bookends. For whatever reason, the sculpt just seems so flat; there’s no expression or movement to them. I think my perception as such is partly due to the dichroic eyes but mostly due to the form language (the wings are awkward–one dimensional, steepled together, and small when compared to the body size–and the body is pretty compact/solid). That doesn’t stop it from looking gorgeous though. And the silver accents are fantastic!
Laurie’s reptilian-themed pieces never disappoint. I do think it would be fun to see some of these schemes on sculpts other than the emperor; however, I feel that the emperor is actually the one most suited for displaying those patterns. Emperors are the only dragons with full-body visibility–open wings, scaly underbelly, nearly perfect vertical bilateral symmetry, the works–with exception to perhaps secret keepers. I’d imagine the forms of the emperor (the upright symmetry) make it much easier to replicate a pattern on both halves of a body rather than needing to account for curves and bulges of something like an old warrior that’s obviously laying reclined.
January 22, 2016 at 8:35 am #940312I really like that spectral and like all the eyes on spectrals but wow, that new griffin is gorgeous too!
Looking for rainbow or pink & teal grab bags!

Very poignant points! Out of the Spectral dragons, I actually prefer the Rising Spectral. The pose is much more dynamic than the sitting spectral (though I’d still like one copy of both sculpts). My favorite dragon sculpt is the Scratching Dragon. It’s not symmetrical in pose, but I think it would lend itself well to the reptile patterns.

https://www.redbubble.com/people/prezaurian?ref=artist_title_nameJanuary 22, 2016 at 4:01 pm #940323I used to think sitting spectrals looked weird, with their globe eyes and pointy lizard faces, but I have since fallen hard for the sculpt. I have five of them now, and I’ll probably get more in the future. With their large smooth scales and upright wings, they make a great canvas for virtually any color scheme, including Cosmic Shift.
Speaking of Cosmic Shift, I normally prefer more natural-looking colors on the griffins, but this new one looks great!

I think the Oriental dragons wear reptilian themes really well. The Ball Python Ori is amazing!
