Hello everyone! I’m 25 years old and have only recently discovered Windstone. I’ve been debating for quite some time on posting to the forum because I’m a quite shy. I’ve loved dragons since 16 years old and have collected a few non-Windstone dragons over the years. I recently got back into collecting them, but I found A LOT of them were ugly and lacking the look of what I think a dragon should look like. Then I found Windstone.

My first encounter with Windstone dragons was on DevianatArt.com. Initially, I thought they were really cool pieces made by a talented/skilled artist nobody had heard of and I’d never own one (I’m sooooo sorry and embarrassed I was naΓ―ve). I didn’t do any more research after that.

While shopping at a “Antiques and Collectables Store”, I saw what I now know to be a white male dragon and immediately recognized the artist’s style. He was chipped up pretty bad, but I had to own him and he was only $20! My thought was, “how did one of the these pieces from an unknown artist end up here of all places?”

After doing a little more research I found Windstone was so much more than I thought. Since then, I’ve acquired 3 ruby dragons, two peacock hatching emperor and empress dragons, 1 BVP fledgling, dragon bookends, and most recently, a mini keeper (all within the past few months and now I’m broke  . I made a tough decision and sold the white male, the first Windstone I found, to someone who could possibly repair him. My current and growing wish list is a red fire fledgling and a BVP secret keeper. I think I’ve become a little addicted to collecting. XD

Anyway, nice to meet everyone. It’s nice to find a forum with people who have the same interests given none of my friends or family are into Windstones or dragons for that matter. They don’t understand my excitement when I get a new piece or when I sit there an look a them for 15 minutes in awe.

P.S. Sorry this post reads like a horrible essay, confession, personal ad or something. I just wanted to get it all out there. If you made it to the this sentence, bless you!

Welcome aboard! It’s not a big surprise that you hadn’t encountered Windstones in person until that antique store: “back in the day” there were a lot of odd little places you could find them (New Age shops, Wicks ‘n’ Sticks, animal statue shops, tobacco shops), but many of these have closed up, sadly. My first encounter was at the Scottsdale Mall, of all places; I steamed up the display window pretty good before slumping away with my $20 still in my pocket, but a couple of years later I had my first Windstone. Unfortunately the current market has kind of gotten away from high-quality fantasy art, at least in malls and chain stores. There’s still plenty of cheap low-quality stuff out there, but many big companies seem afraid to commit to quality items that cost more.

Fortunately, Windstone has expanded its online market considerably! This is both good (for collectors) and bad (for collectors’ wallets). πŸ˜› They’re able to produce items better-tailored to the collector base, and the creativity has simply exploded. I’m a big fan of the paint-your-owns, which let us collectors create our own nifty critters in turn. And every now and then you’ll find a jewel at an antique shop, which is always a great moment. Congratulations on your collection, and I hope you have a lot of fun here! πŸ™‚

Welcome, glad you found us! Most of the people here can completely relate to the whole bigger collection/smaller bank account experience. πŸ™‚

My first Windstone was a hatching tortoise from way back when. Then four years ago I thought I would look for a hatching protoceratops and find out if Windstone made anything else. And it was all downhill from there …

            Yes, Welcome! πŸ™‚
I actually first found Windstones on eBay, and then on deviantART as well. Some of the Windstone Forum members are also on dA, and I saw their PYO (paint your own) Dragons, Foos, and such. Then I found the Windstone Editions website – and I was in Heaven! πŸ™‚

I too could also never find dragons that I thought were designed and looked as I believed dragons should be like. My collection has also been exploding recently … yours will grow fast too, believe that!

Have Fun looking around, and join in one of the Quests or Swaps that we have on the Forums…they’re great fun!

I can relate! I just found Windstone by accident while searching pictures of copper patina for a project I am working on. I have loved dragons since I was a teenager and was introduced to Anne McCaffrey, I’m now 24, and I am jumping in head first in acquiring some of these beauties. I’ve started collecting dragons as my mom does and I am looking forward to adding Windstone to the collection. As you can see, I can completely relate to your story! πŸ™‚

Hi and welcome. It’s always nice to hear from new members on here. I am 30 and found this website about a year and a half ago. I had seen Windstones in my local gift shops probably 15 years ago and loved the peacock dragons, and then the rainbow when they came out. I got a peacock fledgling back then and then got a young dragon and always wanted a rainbow but couldn’t afford much at the time either being 15 years old. Then the gift shops eventually went out of business and when I decided to try and find more of these dragons in the last two years, I searched a lot on ebay and then found this website. Now I have over 80 pieces which I am still trying to figure out how I could afford, although I have bought, sold and traded a lot in the last year. I was always shy too growing up and I think a lot of us can relate to that and not having family that gets this whole thing. My mom and ex boyfriend always gave me this goofy look or would laugh at me when I would show them my Windstones and talk about them and stare at them. Now I get my mom involved in choosing what to get and trade for although I sometimes don’t disclose the cost of everything we get in. haha. Which grab bag dragon did you get? If you need help posting pictures or want to know about the classifieds and trading and how all that works on here, feel free to ask.

Looking for rainbow or pink & teal grab bags!

@ Kim. (I don’t know if this is replying to you or everyone on the thread.) :~

Thanks for the welcome! Oh, I don’t even want to think about the $ I’ve spent so far given I’m in college and I should be saving, but they were worth it me. I haven’t gotten my mini keeper yet. It should be here Monday, yay! I’ll try to post it to the mini keeper photo thread as soon as I figure out how to post pics.

@ Barrdwing. I remember when I was in high school I could find dragon everywhere, even gas stations. Now, I’ve been confined to ebay. It’s sad, but maybe they’ll come back around. Thank goodness for windstone for supplying dragon lovers with quality pieces.

I’ve wanted to try a PYO, but I have no idea what paints to get. Then there’s the debate with myself over airbrush or paintbrush.

Thanks for the welcome. I think I’ll have fun here.

Welcome! It’s good to have some “new blood” around. πŸ™‚

I am so glad you posted introducing yourself, especially since you’re shy. I have found this forum to be a wonderful place, full of nice and helpful people. I am also especially grateful for the friends I’ve found here….as no one in my life appreciates my love of Windstones, either. My husband is just like…”whatever” and the kids are too young. My friends aren’t into them, either, though bless their hearts they TRY….. πŸ˜€

Feel free to chime in on anything that strikes your fancy around here, and if you ever need help posting pics or anything just let me know.

                          Welcome again!
