The formatting (line breaks) issue is now resolved. There was a bug in the plugin that the developers were not aware of, but they have now fixed it. Sorry it took a little while.
Sorry, I was not subscribed to this thread (I am now). I see what you mean about the formatting. There was a recent update to the Classifieds plugin, and I’m guessing there’s a bug in it. I contacted the plugin’s developer about it, and they usually reply promptly, so I should be able to get this sorted out soon. When did you start noticing the formatting problem (no line breaks)?
As for the expiration notices, here’s what I see looking at the listings admin panel…
There are a bunch of ads that should be expired, but aren’t. For example, an ad with an expiration date of 5/12, but which is still listed as “active” rather than “expired” and appears in the listings on the site. So I’m guessing that when you say you had expired listings, you mean that the expiration date had past (not that the ad was labeled “expired”)? Is that the case? If so, then the issue is not that the system isn’t sending emails, but that the expiration date is not triggering a status change from “active” to “expired.”
Of course, either way it’s a problem, but I’m just trying to identify the root of it, so I can pass that along to the developers. Thanks for your help!
OK, I have just installed a messaging limiter plugin that limits the number of PMs a user can send within a specified time. This way, when a spammer gets get through, they will not be able to flood the site with PMs. Currently the limit is set to 3 messages within 5 minutes, but this can be changed. If anyone finds this constraining, I can adjust it.
I have adjusted the “threshold” that the site uses to identify spambots. It blocks certain attempts based on a variety of factors that it uses to determine if a user is suspicious. It is now set to be quite sensitive, which will hopefully filter out these spambots. The potential downside is that legitimate users may occasionally be flagged as bots and prevented from logging in. This is a matter of trial and error to find the sweet spot where only the spambots get blocked.
SO…if anyone has difficulty logging in, please email me at clay@clay-johnson.com to let me know, and I will get you logged in. Thanks for your patience as we try to get this resolved.
Kayla is already back again (with user name “Nelly”). I blocked this account too, but some of you may get PMs.
Latest account blocked. I have a couple ideas for stopping this, or at least minimizing it, which I will work on today or tomorrow.
Kayla is at it again. -_-
Kayla Noyes
Can you IP ban her?
Anytime there’s a spammer I add their IP address to our blacklist. That takes care of some of them, but the persistent ones just return using a different IP (or some method of disguising their IP).
The latest Kayla account has been blocked. Sorry for the inconvenience everyone.
Yet another spammer – Luz E. Powell hawking icemakers in the Food forum.
Thanks, I disabled that account.
You’re right, that was a spammer. I disabled the account—thanks for letting me know!
Pauline the CREEPER is Back!!!!
She just set up another SPAM account 25 minutes ago as ‘Pauline0’ with ‘Pauline9’ as her name….Thanks. I deleted her (again).
So it looks like Pauline4 sent out spam PMs just as I was blocking that account. Sorry for those of you who got one—just delete it.
Pauline is BACK Again!
A Pauline4 account just popped up again 46 minutes ago!!She is a Persistent Spammer!
Shes’s on now as ‘Pauline40’
The latest Pauline is a goner. Yes, I always block the IP addresses of spammers as we catch them, but this one must have a bunch of IPs that they’re using, because each new account is using a different IP, which makes it hard to stop. So there could be yet more Paulines to come. Thanks everyone for alerting me to these accounts!
OK, I’ve blocked the second Pauline now.
What about this post under “General Art Discussion” – Why logos are important for brands
It was posted by rihannaluther and has a link which I did NOT click.
Definitely seems like spam. I flagged the topic and the user. Thanks!
