Why didn’t you leave the pictures of the Phoenix for people to see, or at least put them in the PYO thread? 😮 He is gorgeous! I don’t much like the Phoenix sculpt, but I sure do with this suit of clothes! 😀

The main thing Koishi points out for ME is that even she has fallen behind, months behind, with work because of things going on so her comment makes me sit and wonder, is it me – am I too demanding or do I expect too much.

Koishii is not talking about the same time frame as you are, Poems, and her idea of being out of contact is for a few weeks; she told me weeks in advance when she was going to be on vacation because she would be without her computer. You have been waiting for NINE months. Long enough to build a house. LONG ENOUGH TO HAVE A BABY! I hardly think you are expecting too much. This person has already been paid, and you have given her more than enough time; we’re not talking about painting the Sistine Chapel here.

But she might have problems? I have problems. You have problems. Everyone has problems. Nine months worth?

I personally think that a person should receive a down payment when starting a project for me. I don’t think all the risk should be borne by the artist. If a person has some money or a sculpt invested, they are more “connected” to the piece and less likely to just walk away and leave the artist high and dry (and their money behind.) Your situation is just the opposite; you paid in advance. This artist no longer has a monetary incentive and evidently feels no moral responsibility to honor her obligation.

Most of you responding in this thread are artists and worry about being unjustly criticized. I think this person is the exception rather than the norm; but after hearing your situation, Poems, I admit I am somewhat leery now about commissioning someone I haven’t dealt with before. From the buyer’s perspective, who wants to chance all this aggravation, not to mention the monetary loss? This casts a cloud over everyone who does commissions. Was it this person? That person? The one I was planning to contact?

What about a list with NO information other than the name of the artist, followed by the names of those people who have commissioned that person? People could then contact either the artist or the buyer for an informal “recommendation.” Both can have potential problems with a commission, and both could use some reassurance before entering into a transaction.

Maybe if we started a “References” thread and anyone wanting to check up on a potential trade/sales partner could post “I’d like references on __________________” and those people that had dealt with the named person could PM the person requesting the info-that way it would be more private and might cut back any potential spiteful folks.

Hmmm. The more often I read this, the more I like it. People would give a much more accurate response in private than when posting for all to see.

I don’t have any ideas about how to do a fair feedback system but i wish in cases like this names were allowed to be said because i have no idea who this is about and i’d like to know certain people to avoid transactions with before i learn myself the hard way

            Exactly how I feel. 😕

While I have purchased PYOs from several people, the only one I have actually commissioned to do pieces is KoishiiKitty. She is fantastic to deal with. 😀 My only complaint was her wanting to ship so as to save me money, while I wanted to pay more and get it faster. 😆

Congratulations! 😀 I hope the Australian buyer is a forum member. He would be far away, but at least he would still be in the “family”. 😀

I know dark pieces need a light background. I have asked John before about using a white background for dark pieces, but he said no. I think he feels that using anything other than a black background would be too un-windstone-like, or something like that, and that people on eBay would not recognize the stuff as official Windstone products. I’m not 100% sure.

Do we need to barrage John with emails? Post a poll? What? Any suggestions?

I have won pieces at lower than expected prices, due largely to the dark pictures I think. That is a plus for me, but a minus for Windstone’s bottom line. There have also been times when I did not bid on pieces based on those really dark pictures. Then someone posts their own pictures with better backgrounds, and what a difference! I have been using my paint program to lessen the amount of shadow in the dark pictures, and it does help; but I think that also distorts the colors.

Didn’t Windstone use only white backgrounds way back when, or am I hallucinating? If the “official look” is the stumbling block, white backgrounds for dark pieces could be phased in, or in addition to, the familiar black ones.

Sorry Pam, 😥 but dark pieces on black backgrounds just do not come out well; they disappear into the background. 🙁 The black works great for other pieces, but a lighter background is needed to show up the dark pieces.

If changing backgrounds is a problem, how about just sticking a piece of poster board in front of the black background for at least one picture? It would give us a better idea of the colors.

Thanks for the info and pictures, Skeeterdeee; Windstone’s pictures really were terrible. I never gave your chick a second look …. just glanced at him, thought he was pretty much all one color, and kept right on going through the Search listing. Your second picture is quite good and shows his colors well. 🙂 The Male is black with some brown; the chicks appear to be brown with little or no black.

Do you mean an AL Crouching Chick? 😕 I looked for Sitters last night and only found the Crouchers #1 and #2.

I hope they come out with a sitting AL chick. Of course we wouldn’t be able to see that sparkly rump. XD

A lot of the darker pieces look bad with black backgrounds; a bit lighter color would show them off better. Adding flash glare to something that is already glossy doesn’t help either. 🙁 I don’t like “glossy”, but he looks beautiful in my lighting. 😀 I am definitely not complaining about the bad photos. 😆

I got the Autumn Leaf Griffin today. That eBay picture was not exactly flattering, and I must admit I was waiting to see …. Did I get him for a good price because of his not-so-great picture? Or would I be thinking, OMG, what did I do? 😮

The verdict? I don’t care what he is named. I love all those colors. 😀 Aside from wishing the black on his head was a little less glossy, I even like the glossy look on the rest of him. If I had the room, I would be trying for the Female to match him; and I don’t even like the Female Griffin sculpt. 😉

I look at all the new threads too, so I really don’t mind which way it is done. However, it would be easier to go back and find a thread if they were separated into a few more categories.

I was just looking at a thread with items listed for sale and items wanted as possible trades for the for-sale items. They obviously Want To Sell, and even though trading is a form of buying, the person does not Want To Buy items outright. Where would this type of posting fit if this area was split into only Want To Buy or Want to Sell? 😕

Why not leave this section for selling and/or trading, keep the Trade/Swap section, and establish a new Want To Buy (only) section?
