I ordered two and am having them shipped to my new studio and apartment in Florida so they’ll be waiting for me when I arrive.
It seemed very appropriate 😉
As a side note it may also be spelled Permacol. My bottle is in a box getting shipped with my entire house so I can’t check it right now.
Actually…
Permacal.
Search for it – there a number of SCA vendors that sell it but some art stores as well. It’s the BEST leafing sizing I’ve EVER used. Only one application required the times I’ve used it – sometimes two on large areas.
That said, for ease, get real gold leaf if you’re going ot use it. The aluminum/fake stuff is such a pain in the rear.
But yah Permacal, making life easier for SCA illuminators all over the world.
(the basics, apply sizing. Let dry. Use hot breath to moisten sizing. Apply gold. Burnish (or just a soft cloth with the permacal) )

Oh that’s okay. I worked on her more tonight and came up with a color scheme I like a bit better. She was waaay too shiny before on mine so I toned her down a bit and added some blue in spots to match her eyes.
They can be like unicorn cousins 😉
Heh I think I’m using the same color on my current unicorn in progress. Clearly I am going to have to go work on her more so she looks different.
Lovely on both counts!
Would saying I love them all be a cop out? :sigh:
They’re all so cute and shiney and colorful. It’s like trying to pick out candy in one of those choose-from-a-bin places. He’s also blatant copyright violation.
Bleh, I hate humans sometimes. We deal with this all the time with molds for art dolls and it makes me want to go scream and shake silly people.Besides there are gorgeous PYO’s now… why in the world would I want to cast one of the other beautiful sculptures and make an hour’s worth of mess. Sheesh.
Actually you can use a mix of acryllic sealer sprayed into a small dish (so it condenses) and mix in pearlex powder to paint metallic. It’ll stick to most anything (though you may want to try something as a test run first.) And ventilated area required.
I’d imagine if you got decent sizing you could silver leaf it too.
The first would be a more brushed finish. The second far shinier.
Of course both of the above would indicate acryllic not sticking on its own – which it might. I’ll be certainly letting you know quite shortly 😉
I’m waiting for my four unicorns and dragon to show up. I’ve got a whole batch waiting for me in FL but right now am waiting for my interim order to get to NH before I move so I can keep myself occupied.
Thank you everyone for all the wonderful encouragement and kind words. I’m stunned by the stuff I see turned out around here so I’m very honored by all the compliments. Thanks!
Heh the one emerald posted is from me. Mine’s up because I’m moving across country to FL soon and I wanted to trim the collection down a bit. I only had the one emerald/jade and he looked lonely with all those peacocks. So…tada.
There’s also a small wizard, frog wizard, and mouse wizard up.
(Why I didn’t think to post them here is actually beyond me.)
And hello person near Pelham 🙂

I really loved that you managed to work so many subtle colors in with a very natural effect. I’m a bit tremulous about starting my own gryphons as they seem to be really difficult to paint in that regard.
Gorgeous!
Well that was… addicting. I am now inspired to stalk my mail man until he shows up with the most recent order. In the meantime, here’s my first attempt. I call him Regale because …well because. He told me to! 😉
He’s painted in deep purple, deep red, two shades of gold, and has gold highlights on his purple body scales. I used a purple/gold interference violet on his wing veins and there’s a blue/purple interference on the backs of his wings that doesn’t show up in the photos.
I’m also looking forward to unicorns in standard horse markings in odd colors. The Quaga would be really awesome though, no matter what color. It’s a really intriguing pattern.
