Hello from SoCal! I’m not an active member at all but I love reading posts and seeing pics of everyone’s pretties. This is one of my favorite forums. Have fun!
Thank you everyone! The big 33 today. I’ve become such a lurker lately, but I’m happy to see I’m still remembered. 🙂
Those appear to be Red Lories. Their gorgeous colors would look stunning on a dragon.
Whew, I have been away from the forum for far too long. The last 5 months in North Hollywood have been amazing. I recently quit my job at Universal Studios because I got a new job as a freelance colorist at 2 post production houses, one in Hollywood and one in Burbank. I recently finished color grading a feature length indie movie. I am so super excited to say I’m now working in film in Hollywood. Burbank is also an awesome town, and I’m thrilled to be working there as well. I have met so many awesome people here! Guh, I wish Melody was still here, oh well… So, in case anyone was wondering, I am alive! I will be visiting my family in Chicago next month. The only thing that sucks is how I can’t see my family and friends in IL like I used to.
An update on me. I have been living in North Hollywood CA for a month and half now. I got a job at Universal Studios Hollywood. I have amazing roommates. I am a bit older than them, at 31, and most of them are in their 20’s. This doesn’t bother me at all though, in fact, they are making me feel younger and we do a lot of fun things together. I have been networking with other film professionals, and letting people know about my skills. My goal is to get an awesome colorist or film restoration job. In fact tonight I am going to a networking event sponsored by my college. So, I am loving living here. LA is congested, sunny and dry, but it’s also exciting and so different from my life in Chicago. I wanted a change of pace in my life, and I got it.
It took me about 3 1/2 years to win a raffle. It is really all about luck. Getting the email from Melody that I won was so exciting and unexpected!
I arrived in LA yesterday. I was able to find a room to rent in North Hollywood. Shame Windstone is no longer here. I have my hopes up for a few job opportunities. The weather is crazy hot, going to be like 95 here tomorrow. I guess I wanted warmer and sunnier and that’s what I got.
And thanks for the good wishes 🙂
And California is a gorgeous state to drive through. I simply loved seeing the Pacific Ocean.
I have adored the 3 weeks I have spent in San Francisco. But, alas, I need to get back to work. I have decided that if I want to be around film people I need to go to LA. I will be leaving the bay area on Saturday and I will take the amazing Pacific Coast Highway south. I am still ironing out the details of where I will live in LA, but I am excited to experience the challenges that lay ahead. I know several people in the film business in LA and I plan on meeting a lot more.
I am currently in Tooele Utah. What an amazingly beaitiful state. Shame it had to be raining for much of my drive. I will be heading into Nevada tomorrow. I’d love to see Oregon and may get the chance. Where I end up is still up in the air.
Happy Birthday!
Thank you everyone for your input. I have loved my stay in Colorado. The meeting I had yesterday went well but they are not hiring atm. I have this taste for adventure and I have decided to continue west. I have friends to stay with in San Francisco and I have always wanted to see that city. I am going to take 80 west through Wyoming, Utah, Nevada and then CA. I have worked in the film business in Chicago for 9 years, so thankfully I am making this trip with experience under my belt. I am thankful for my Windstone family and Will keep you guys updated if you’d like me to.

Found a video of a scaled quail calling, sounds exactly like your bird. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujP3iaXs4C0
It makes sense that he is not from the area and was probably captive. He must be used to people if he has been hanging around your place. I see the scaled quails are from the southern states, but with all this bizarre weather I wouldn’t be surprised if he decided to take a trip north (if he was not captive)
Your feathered friend there appears to be a Scaled Quail. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scaled_Quail
