It’s good that you’re putting the fence up again.
San you call animal control or the Sherri ff and file a complaint? Part of our problem is that there is no animal control or regulation in this county.
We already have, and it cost him $1200 cause he doesn’t pick up after his dogs when they do thier buisness on anyone’s yards and they weren’t licenced. Unfortunately the dogs have to wander and we have to catch them and send them to the pound for anything serious to be done [/quote
WOW He could have put that towards a fence!
FYI
My Grandmother passed away Sat night. It was expected and I am OK. She is with Grandpa now and they probably have the pontoon out on the lake fishing like we used to. 8)Barrdwing wrote:Good gad. What a bloody idiot. I love how his bad choices are suddenly your problem. He chose to not have his dog’s fracture fixed; now when his dog gets out and does something silly that reinjures it, it’s your fault. (Since he ran over it in the first place, it’s even stupider.) He wanted the fence down, and now he comes over and figuratively pisses on your doorpost and grunts and scratches about how big and mean he is and he’s gonna git yur dawwwwgs. He isn’t even intelligent enough to keep his dogs in their yard where they’d be safe. I sure wish stupidity was toxic to the host.
Start documenting these little incursions of his, the fence thing, the original injury to the dachshund, and all that. It’s good that you’ve already talked to the sheriff; document that conversation too. Find out what all of the applicable laws are, regarding dogs and property fencing and all the rest. This SOB neighbor thinks he’s pretty hot stuff. He is going to keep on pushing into your face and at some point you may need to have some backup. Documenting the events and his threats will help a lot. He may be a worthless waste of protein, but he can still do a lot of harm. Protect yourself.
I’m really sorry to hear about your grandmother being ill. π And also sorry about the miserable allergies. Hang in there.
rotflmao π I love your description.
We called the Sheriff and they returned our call and recorded our statement. We have a lawyer friend eho is advising us. He’s had to deal with similar issues with his neighbors. And once the fence is up and posted we are sending a (tactful) letter out to all our neighbors about our new fencing and posting so they are aware and we have it in writng Whew all this over one little dog with a defective hip that they don’t want to take care of!foxfeather wrote:Gah, I have a neighbor like that too, but he’s across the street from us. Jasmine wrote:That really bites. I’m glad you’re putting up a fence, chainlink or wood?
Actually it is horse fence. Cheaper than chain link and sturdier than hog wire and safe for the horses. We have 1200 or or more feet to do. π

I have to agree fully with this, in some places if your dog injures or kills another dog on your property you are 100% at fault for not preventing it from happening. I keep my dogs contained unless we are at the dog park because I dont want something like that happening.
Our dogs are usually inside or on runners unless we are with them. They have always come running when called. You’re right a good fence is better. That is why our fence is going back up. When you mix big dogs with little dogs it is usually the little dog who gets Hurt. In this case our dogs and their Rottweiler have never hurt the smaller ones on purpose. The one with the broke hip has had it re broke twice. They don’t want to keep it confined (their words) π
[=cyan]HE APOLOGIZED π But the fence is still going back up. He came over feeling very bad about the whole thing and wanting to remain friends and good neighbors. I agree, to a point. But I also no longer trust him. It didn’t help when he was back out driving his golf cart in front with the little dogs running behind it. And while I was at the surgery center today my daughter called to say they were all in our yard right up to the house again. Our dogs were on their runners. We’ve asked him about this and he just says if they’re a problem shoot em [=red]Good Grief like I would do that They are his grand kids pets.
We started putting the original fence back up six inches from the property line. After all good fences make good neighbors =-) We are going to compare our survey with his and make sure we agree on where that is. Shouldn’t be a problem since we did that the first time but I don’t want any surprises. This is the temporary fix To keep our dogs out of their yard. Ironic since the only problem with injury has been to their wiener dog coming into our yard and fighting π or being in the road loose. We’re calling a friend who does fences and we will end up with the entire ten acres fenced. We already have a paddock out front. Our driveway runs next to it from the road to the house. About 300 feet each direction from the house is our “yard” We have it planted with pasture grass so we can let the horses wander around the house occasionally when we are at home. π We have not been able to that with the fence down. The rest of the property is pasture and woods and already fenced in for the horses. I’d love to eventually have dog fence around the whole thing and than get a bunch of Akita’s.Anyway the yard area will have dog proof fence around it. At least it will keep ours in π [cyan]
Thank you everybody for your advice and kind thoughts. It really helped to get me through the week end

Before putting the fence up you might want to get informed about the rules of putting a fence up. I’m in Canada and our rules are if you put a fence right on the property line(Smack in the middle) the neighbor can take it down if he likes and there is noting you can do about it. Also you have the right to ask for half the cost to be paid be him (if he does not well thats another story). If we put the fence 6 inches inward of the property line then he can’t touch it. So make sure you nkow your legal rights before to protect yourself.
And good luck! πJust so you know, if the fence is there for more than 10 years, then the 6 inches will become part of your neighbour’s property, unless you have it clearly noted down on paper. So BDW’s advice is really sound; check the laws, otherwise you might end up with a nasty situation, especially with a neighbour like that.
Already done. We paid a surveyor over $2000.00 to get it certified and in records He also put pins in. So we are safe! And khat, you can verify that info with the city’s inspector. Don’t take just about every body’s word. You would be surprised at the info (bad info) we got from different people!
We previously had it surveyed and pins in (See previous post) Now it is just a matter of putting it back the way it was and including the front. After that if their dogs come in our yard we are not responsible. We won’t hurt them. I like dogs. I just can’t afford the type of fence needed to keep out the little dogs. π I can however keep mine in. π

Glad you’re finally getting a fence. Your dogs might sulk, but at least they’ll be safe.Thanks. We have 100 foot runners for the dogs. We let them run lose when we are outside. I have no problem with having a fence. I’d love to have a dog proof fence. I just hated having him come over getting in my face and being so one sided.
We had our yard fenced between our property and theirs. Had it surveyed and all. We put posts up to mark the property line and had the actual fence a foot inside. We took care of the property too. When they put the second house and driveway in he asked us to take the fence down. He was going to put a chain link fence up on his side. He had also put a couple storage buildings facing his sons driveway. He wanted to end up with their driveway on the outside of the fence with room to turn into the buildings and not hit our fence. That is now what both families (theirs not us) use to drive down with their four wheelers, golf cart, tractor blah blah blah. They removed any “natural” barrier that was there for the last ten years, we removed our fence at their request and they never put a fence up. Now they want us to put a fence
back up since they consider our dogs to be the problem not ours. So now we will put our fence up and include the road frontage. It will be one to keep our dogs in. Our other neighbors have a fence up along the property line and have no problem with us connecting to it.Ever had one of those days turn into one of those weeks and you just want to crawl back under the blankets and hide?
I have Fall allergies – mold, mildew- not a problem when we lived in MI. We’d get a good hard freeze and problem solved. In fact I didn’t even know I had them til we moved to GA. No Fall freeze and I kept getting worse every Fall. Any way this year was going well, the only good side of the drought, and than we got just enough rain to trigger them. That went into Bronchitis and than a nasty Sinus allergy. Can’t take all the meds they want me to for that as I’m scheduled for two epidural’s on Mon ( one on each side of my lower back) and some things just can’t be in your blood for five days beforehand.
My Mom called to let me know that my Grandma has taken a turn for the worse and will probably not make it through the weekend. Not unexpected but still hard. Especially since I can’t be there with my Mom. I have 3 sisters and 2 brothers there but you know how it is with us oldest girls. We know best ;-}
So I was already feeling down.
Than last night our neighbor shows up to inform me that if one of our dogs steps a foot off our property and he is anywhere near he is going to shoot it. They have a Rottweiler and three wiener dogs. One of the little dogs was hit by their car and broke a hip some time ago. They just let it heal at home. The dogs come in our yard last summer and get jumped on by our dogs and the hip gets broke again. We offered to pay the Vet and at the time they said no. Our biggest dog Alf and their Rot have been chasing each other back and forth over the property line for Six years playing. all the time. Usually not a problem. Than they put a house in for their son as far from their house and very close to ours as possible and cleared land and put a driveway in right along the shared property line. And now they have the little dogs. They are constantly in our yard trying to pick a fight with the big ones.
That is where the problem lies. The big dogs play rough and the little ones get hurt. We chase them out of our yard and try to keep them apart. You would think the neighbors would have a fence up by now if they were that worried. They have been saying for three years that they were going to put up a chain link fence as their young granddaughters live there. They bought several sections and left them in the yard to rust. They have the money. They buy stuff like the golf cart all the time. I don’t care how many toys they have.
Yesterday the neighbors decide to drive up and down the road in their new golf cart. They let the wiener dogs run behind it including the one with the bad hip. (Stupid Stupid) Our dogs run out to the road, I run out and call them back right away but their dog now has a broke hip again. It is prone to that, duh. So he shows up at our door to let me know how angry he is that we let our viscous dogs run loose and they are going to get shot. This guy means it, he has done this kind of thing before.
Every one has 4 or more dogs on this road and they all run loose. There are 15 to twenty big dogs within a mile either way. Not as bad as it sounds as it is in the country. They usually stay in their own yards and most of us bring them in at night. If he had gotten farther down the road his dog probably would have gotten hurt by one of them. They all run out to the road and sniff each other when one of us goes for a walk. But we are first in line so we get the blame for their stupidity.
Out here in this backwards run county you can shoot a dog anytime anywhere even in the owners yard and all you have to do is claim the dog was exhibiting viscous behavior. You can even shoot it to protect your dog. We called the Sheriff to confirm. I have no intention of shooting or doing anything else to their pets. It is not their fault that the owners are selfish and irresponsible. The good news is it now has my husband motivated to put up a good fence (yea!) around the yard. He is at Home Depot now pricing them out. I’ve wanted one for a long time but our priority has been keeping the horse fence up.
I just wish they’d use some sense with those dogs. I asked him about that last night but their attitude is that our dogs are the problem so they need to be shot. Period. And that includes in the road or the woods (ours) behind the house. He’s just waiting for the opportunity. Basically they want to have their cake and eat it too.Any way that is my very long rant about the dogs. I just needed to “talk” to another dog person who would understand.

I know we are all from different religious backgrounds and I am NOT trying to start any controversy. I would just like some educated opinions/observations regarding the book(s). I haven’t read them as yet and I’m trying to decide if I want to check them out. Thanks!
Edited for grammar. π
Funny I was just going to post a link to Snopes myself. π I also don’t want to start a controversy however I do think it is important to be informed about something like this. especially if you have children you want to take. And Even more so because most people I’ve talked to about the movie are under the impression that the series is like Narnia or Lord of The Rings. They are intended to be just the opposite.
From what I understand the theme is watered down for the movie. The author and director have been very up front as to content and intention. The books are more obvious and the whole theme becomes more obvious in the sequels.
Snopes does cover the whole thing pretty well.As to whether or not to read or watch? Because I have strong beliefs I’m choosing not to. Not because I think anything bad will happen π π
I’m just not interested in going to or reading something I personally would find objectionable. I also wouldn’t want to influence any one around me to go. btw I pretty much don’t watch any R rated movies for the same reasons. content I find objectionable I mean not necessarily anti-Christian. π
Too bad they don’t edit them for TV like they used too π Any how I hope some of this rambling helps!yep The kids and I had a blast with it. Thr down side fir us is no seeds to roast π
This is fun 8)
