I want one of each!!!! *begs* 😀 I hope this is okay though. I’ve done it before with a few people back when the griffin chicks started coming out, but I if I remember correctly some other forum members started getting mad about it since so many people were buying multiples for other people the store was emptied out in minutes… so they did away with it.

I would rather buy multiples for forum members than to have ebay re-sellers auction them off for 3 times the price. Why shouldn’t we have a co-op for purchases?

I am hoping this thread helps all of us and brings us together, to thwart the people who buy just to make a profit on ebay!

I am just reading this and I agree with Bardwing. That kid is probably being abused. Great thing to get the school and police involved. Split these trouble makers up, and give the parents a wake up call. Hopefully some social service people will be called in to evaluate the kids.

It’s going to be great for your kids to be in track and self defense and it will boost their self esteem. What a mess. It is so sad that young kids now use guns and violence to solve their troubles.

Kids don’t just get in fights any more, they shoot each other. So you can’t tolerate any threats. One of my friend’s at work had a kid threaten to shoot her son. The kid got pulled out and put in a different school for juvenile offenders.

I have also had a patient, a girl 10 years old, that was stabbed in the leg with a sharp pencil, because she tried to walk down the isle to sharpen her pencil. It actually broke off the pencil lead in her thigh. The other child was actually arrested.

I am glad things are getting better, feel free to vent here…that’s what we are here for.

This dog is not acting out any “anger” that he’s been left, he has a condition known in the behavior world as ‘separation anxiety’. He’s, quite simply, absolutely terrified to be left alone. This is why he’s such a good dog when he goes to work with you.

Anxiety meds will certainly help him, but my suggestion to you is to get in touch not with a trainer, but a behaviorist. If you have a veterinary medicine school close by, sometimes they have one on staff.

He needs not obedience training (especially if he already has it), but serious reconditioning training (and even then he may still need a little help from the meds, the meds might even be part of the rehabilitation process) if you expect to leave him at home when you move.

Rehoming him could exacerbate his separation issues, so you’re in it for the long haul. If it’s OK that you take him to work with you, continue to do that.

Also keep in mind that medication is not cruel, especially if it helps. He’ll feel better and you will feel better.

But still, in the end, find a behaviorist, they will be your best bet, and be open to the idea of medicating him. I, for one, know that I would rather pop a pill then freak out.

I agree, I love the Dog Whisperer, he is a behaviorist. You need to get his latest book. It goes through steps you can use to recondition your dog. You need to walk him daily, discipline him when he acts out and make sure you reward him for calm submissive behavior.

You should watch some episodes of the dog whisperer. It would give you some insight on things you can do to correct the behavior. His newest book is fantastic.

I have 11 dogs, that are rescues, abused, neglected, spoiled, and all messed up. They get along, they sleep in crates at night and go in the yard in the day and they are all now fairly well adjusted. You can change your dog’s behavior if you are willing to work at it. But you need exercise, discipline, affection in that order.

Usually, it is how you act toward the dog that encourages these issues. If you change your behavior, he can change his!

Good luck, PM me if you have questions!

If you missed the first batch of Rainbow Royal Hatchers and want one or all…please post here.

We all know there will be more. But, some forum members might have extras. If you post here, with what you were not able to get, possibly those who have extras can help those people who missed out.

Also this would be a great thread to connect people so that they can make a deal with fellow forum members to get a hatcher the next time, if they aren’t able to be on the computer.

That is what I did. I teamed up with others. It works. And the agreement is regular store price plus shipping, with no extra mark ups, at least that is what I think is fair.

Is RSV really a big deal? Is it something I will have to worry about when Tristen is born? He’s going to be born in June/July… 😯

It usually goes around in the winter months. If your child is 6 or 7 months old by next January, then he less likely to have a serious problem. It really is the worst on small infants under 6 month. Though older babies may be affected…

Pertussis (whooping cough) is also a concern in infants under 3 or 4 months because they aren’t fully vaccinated. Adults can pass pertussis to young infants. In adults the immunity can wear off as they get older.

Things like daycare, exposure to other sick kids, exposure to cigarette smoke make them a little more susceptible….

He calls me Norma Bates because I’m always taking Alyssa’s temp with the tympanic thermometer (it goes in your ear). She always feels warm to me but never has a fever. One time I took it and got a 99.1 reading so I went right for the rectal which was fine. Tympanic’s can be pretty inaccurate. Every time he pesters me about taking temps I make it a point to take his too since he has pneumonia right now. That makes him twice as mad 😆

It is good that you took a rectal temp…let me explain why tympanics don’t work…just FYI..ohh and tell your hubby, ONLY rectal temps are accurate…sooooo you know what that means 🙂 That will scare him!!!

I hate to tell you this, but that nice expensive ear thermometer is a piece of trash.

In order to see an infants ear drum, I have to pull up and back on the ear, and then, if the speculum is too large, forget it. It takes skill to look at an infant’s ear drum.

The tympanic thermometer takes readings based on the ability of the machine to “look” at the TM and take a reading from the blood vessels that run through it.

Problem is, if I can’t see the TM without playing with the ear, how does the thermometer “see” it? It doesn’t!

The other issue is that infants have a higher metabolism than we do so they feel warmer, like a cat or dog feels warmer, because their body temperature is higher.

A “fever” in an infant is 100.5 rectal no adding, subtracting, multipying or dividing. 100.5 on a mercury thermometer is BEST or the “gold standard” and now that they don’t sell those any more…I guess a digital would be okay.

If you want to know an infants true core body temperature, take a rectal. Otherwise you are wasting time.

Why is this important? Because a fever over 100.5 rectal in an infant can indicate meningitis or sepsis. Infants with 100.5 or higher, without an obvious bladder or ear infection require lab work and a spinal tap.

I know this is a lot in one post, but if you have questions about fever, temperatures, etc, either call yor pediatrician, or you can pm me…I can give you any factual information you might need…
