I finally figured out what I like about the patina on CP’s… The store photo at the moment of the Emp, he has a fair amount of the turquoise patina color, but I think what really draws me is he has a bit more antiquing on him, I really like the depth the dark tone in the crevices gives…
Is it this that people are referring to about liking the ‘more copper’? Less of that and more solid copper tone?
January 15, 2012 at 10:23 pm in reply to: GB unicorns: color/pattern squeaks(and re-squeaks!) #869255I’d be strongly in favor of normal young coming around soon!
and I think what would be *really* great is a set of normal *other* animal colors, like the ebay store has gotten a few of… in either young or baby (I lean more toward young, but the babys could be uber cute too!) – Blue jay, Cardinal, Chickadee… Red Panda (I love it on the cat but not a cat person) Red fox, Cross fox, German Shepherd, Dutch Shepherd (I’d *DIE* for this one since I own a dutch shepherd! though you’d probably kill me for this one, since it’s brindle, lol), Regular peacock, and/or white peacock (True to peacock color, put the tail spots on the rump like an appy!), Snow Leopard, Black Jaguar (Where the spots have a slight contrast difference? or black uni with the dark blue spots) … and before the list gets so big I could single handedly give you an idea for the *entire* set 😉 I’ll stop there, thinkin you got the idea! lol
I like some of the wild colored ones, but majority of what I see isn’t per my taste… I’m more into *I dare you to miss this sitting in a room* vibrant, or nicely contrasted together.. not so much the pukey ones, lol.. I think a baby painted like the Sand dragons would be epic! and I think a copper patina baby would also be epic! I think dark brown or bronze with blue (either dark or light) would be really pretty, ‘n if you did a paint/appy style horse, those colors would contrast well with white..
and I’m putting in a vote for different colored eyes too!
Would you be able to do a dark metallic orange? Close to the almost rustic orange you see on cars (A horrible color IMO on cars, lol!) but it’s my bfs fave color… with some black in it? I’m open to the idea of other colors that would look good in that mix… I may run the idea over in Photoshop some to fine tune what I would like to see done on it, or if my idea would even work…
I’m not 100% sure what I’m going to do right now, but I do greatly like the idea of having a Keeper painted for my BF for our 2yr Anniv. that’s coming up. I think someone with beautiful skills with an airbrush would succeed better than my first attempts with a brush 😉 ‘n I am absolutely in love with the keeper you’ve done! Those colors mix together remarkably well! 🙂Thanks for the nudge in the proper direction! and for the link to the tutorial!
Never being around for a GB release before, do these stay in store for very long at all? or are they like in and out in an hour type? I might look into one or two if I stand a chance at actually getting them, lol, but I only check up on the store more than once on days I’m really bored, and I still fully missed the BVP OW, lol, ‘n I checked randomly, I thought, quite a lot that day…
More like in and out in 35 minutes, even at one per customer! If you are signed up for store announcements, or have clicked the “Notify when back in stock” button for the GB babies, it certainly helps for the hard-to-get items. 🙂
Awesome, thanks or the heads up on how to go about it guys! 🙂 I’ll be excited if I get one, but if not then I suppose I’ll just have to wait and see, and hone in my abilities and familiarity with the site! lol.
So sorta off subject but along the same lines, does this often happen when certain regular dragons restock? Say if CP comes back in stock soon, or do they hang around a lil longer? – I’m definitely gonna set up notifications on any that I’m interested in 🙂
Actually, DragonFeathers, you gave me a great idea for an anniv gift to my bf 🙂 Maybe I’ll get a PYO and try my hand at making a dark orange and black dragon!

A new CP batch might look different from the previous CP batch, but all tend to look very close to their brothers or sisters in the same batch. If they look different from the last batch, I update the store photo. The photo for the male has been updated about 6 times.
Awesome, so store photos when they restock will be pretty close to what I’m lookin at gettin, that helps 🙂 Any prospect of Scratching coming out in CP?
If you did a darker, almost rustic orange dragon with a nice contrasting color, I think my bf would have to get himself a Windstone 😉
Sorta randomish thought? If I ordered one when they restock, is there such a thing as putting a note on the order and asking for one with a lighter violet? Since as you mentioned, Melody, it will vary piece to piece with different painters and the like.. maybe one would have a lighter violet than others in the stock waiting for new owners 🙂 ‘Cause I know I won’t be winning the lighter violet vote, since everyone else likes the violet 🙂 Its just a personal taste kinda thing..
I think they box things as soon as they are done painting them and then just pull them off the shelf (they don’t even usually put them in the store till they are done with boxing in case something breaks). I don’t think they know which ones have more or less patina, violet, etc.
Gotcha! Makes sense, figured it didn’t hurt askin 🙂 Guess if I go for copper I’ll just have to take a leap of faith, or look for one that someone else already has for sale that has less violet…

My vote is moderate patina…
I personally liked the look of them with only a hint of violet.. too much violet and it takes away from the copper (imo) with a hint it accents nicely without removing from the affect…Think there will be any copper Scratchings? I think he’d look gorgeous in that tone! and have you thought about doing a copper Uni? Could be cool! (Now watch there is a test paint of this somewhere I completely missed, lol)
From what I recall from previous discussions, Sand was too complicated to produce. Nutmeg is too close to Gold probably to make it to production, and good luck with Autumn Leaf. We’ve ALL been barking up that tree for YEARS! I think on top of it being a complicted color combination, a lot of the reds are unstable and can fade in the sunlight over time which was one of the reasons it never got produced despite the huge demand. The same issues for Violet Flame, another really brilliant color that has similar “issues”
Curlies seem to be a sort a way Windstone allows for us poor people who can’t win a lot on ebay to enjoy new color schemes.
Thanks for bringin me up to date on all this! 🙂
Is Nutmeg really that close to Gold? To me it looks like its rich dark browns.. even much different from the original brown color scheme.. I’m generally not a fan of gold, but will favor brown tones sometimes… ‘n I really liked the look it has on the curled…
I remember Melody mentioning that Sand was difficult to paint when I commented on a photo on dA, I was just sorta hoping when I noticed a couple smaller dragons actually produced the color for the store.. so it was worth asking, lol.. Its such a beautiful color mix, it’s a shame it’s too difficult to produce larger dragons!
As for Autumn, if the reds are unstable then that makes perfect sense to not put that out as a full color scheme as of yet.. I do digital paintings, so fade resistance is something I have to be well aware of for printing painting commissions.. I can only imagine how much of a big deal it is on these guys compared to mine (After all, mine can always be re-printed if something happens )
I feel ya on not being able to afford the ebay ones! They turn up some gorgeous colors I would love to see hit even a limited production, but I certainly can’t afford the $400 or so for the bigger dragons (Mother, Male ‘n the like – Which are the ones I’m really looking into) It’s great to see Melody doing so well with her art though 🙂 Not many artists can put something up on ebay, start at $.99 and see it shoot to several hundred within hours!
I’ll just keep a close eye on the dragons and the unis and keep wracking my brain for which I would like best 🙂 then keep a close eye on ebay for a Peacock Mother (My all time fave) ~ ‘n see how this BVP/BEP thing turns out.. I like the potential of this color, but the way the OW’s colors came out, it hasn’t quite grabbed me like the look on Lap Dragon… I’m probably just too damn picky for my own good, haha
— ‘n I wouldn’t mind seeing Indigo come out, the looks of them on Ebay has me quite excited, I like the contrast of the dark blues with the gold 🙂 I think overall I’m looking for a color scheme that accents the Windstone dragons to the extent *I* feel they deserve.. these beauties deserve to look nothing like anything else sitting on my shelves of dragon figurines! ‘n I always felt peacock did that for them, Emerald peacock does this too, and these BEP/BVP also have that stand out-like nothing else out there look to them…
I also do like the silver dragons, ‘n I think that color would look awesome with blue accenting on it to give it some pop, sorta like the way the sand dragons were painted, but have the sand tone be the silver coloration and the turquoise be blue (That makes sense in my head, I hope it does to everyone else too, lol) or even blue with a *hint* of violet in it..I told Melody over on DA that they should be called Northern Lights Dragons.
We get Northern Lights that are mostly blues and greens with hints of reds and purples against the black sky up here so I think that name would be perfect! :bigsmile:I like that! I think this dragon color deserves a name of its own! – Wonder if it’ll port over to anything other than the dragons?
Well it’s a mouthful, but I think BVEP most accurately describes this dragon, since it’s like a BVP and a BEP had a hybrid baby. I dont think BVP should have any green, and I dont think BEP should have any purple(since it makes them TOO similar!).
Agreed!
‘n ohh.. Grackle is pretty!
