Wow, Choebe, what a snake that guy is! I too will definatly keep an eye out for one for you. But I think your best bet would be to call all the stores in your province listed on Windstone’s dealer page, and if you still can’t find one, keep prowling around ebay. Maybe you’ll get lucky and score a prototype OW for what you would have paid in the store. (Optimisim never hurt anyone!)
I know, I’m so glad I’m not the only one who thought it was a really sleazy move on his part. Venting here made me feel a little better, but last night I found a site where I could post a review of his store. Let me tell you, that felt GOOD.
I’ve had a few offers for peacock Old Warriors since posting here, too, so it looks like I may get my wish after all. I can’t get over how kind all of you are. : )

Ouch. : (
Jasmine wrote:What a b**tard. My mother ran a retail store for over 15 years and she would never have done that, or allowed any of her employees (me included) to do something like that to a customer. If people wanted to put things on lay-a-way, there was a minimum amount (10% of total, which was clearly stated as being non-refundable) but once it was done, she never would have sold it out from under them. If they didn’t pay within 6 monthes, she would have given them a call to tell them that they had one more month before re-stocking the item.
If they’d wanted more down, the manager should have called you right away. And should have notified you if there was another buyer that was interested to give you first option to complete your purchase. That he treated you that way was totally unethical. You might want to report him to the Better Business Bureau.
Yeah, that’s basically exactly how I feel about it all. I asked a number of times to make sure that we were both clear on the terms of the arrangement, and was repeatedly assured that it would be fine. If the manager decided he didn’t agree to the terms, he should have contacted me about it, not just gone ahead and sold something that I’d been told was as good as mine. It just makes my blood boil.
Times like this, I really have to hold firm to my faith in karma. : /

I hope you get your OW. Don’t give up. I have been collecting for a long time and just started getting the big pieces that I have wanted for so long.I hope I will, too. I’ve had a few offers since posting here, one in particular that looks promising. I may get the dragon of my dreams yet. It definitely helps ease the heartache of yesterday just to know that there’s still hope.

I feel that way now. At the time I just felt like crawling into a corner and crying my eyes out. : (
sunhawk wrote:Oh deary, that really freaking SUCKS!!!! Let me come over there and BITE HIM for you!! *big feathery hugs* Stupid jerk!
Please do, Steen! I seriously wish I could have worked up a rage over it while I was still in the store. I was just crushed. : (
DROGO wrote:Yeh, so sorry about the OW…it’s kinda weird just horrible luck & timing that someone else suddenly bought it, just after you put your money down on it, since they have been retired for a while… 😥
I’ve got a hunch that someone had seen it before and came back for it. Seeing that he could make a quick sale, he decided to go ahead, despite my having made arrangements. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to learn that was the case.
People suck.

Thank you. : )

Thanks so much. Maybe I will finally get one of my own, someday.
Arya wrote:I can sort of understand what you are going through. I was talking to a local antique and curio dealer about them possibly selling Windstones there, since it’s a pain to ship them over the border on my own. After a couple weeks, and after helping a forum member here buy a Rainbow Emperor that the store managed to have laying around from years ago, the store owner said he would place an order. I was so excited, I was trying to decide what piece to get if I was offered an award for getting their business to sell Windstones. I even gave a down payment on a fledgy that I wanted them to order in for me.
…and nothing happened. There was no call, and I waited for 2 months before I went to the store again (mostly because work stopped me from going in any sooner). They had decided not to sell Windstones after all. They saw it as a “poor investment”, and gave me back my money. The killer is, they decided against selling days after I paid them…I don’t think they would have even tried to refund my money if I hadn’t shown up. I’m still upset about it all 👿
Ugh, that’s awful. Keeping your money for two months is just unacceptable.
Blackdesertwind wrote:What store did you go to? If you don’t mind me asking?
It’s called Just Curious, in the Rideau Centre.
Arlla wrote:awww, lame! 🙁 I’m sorry – I’ve been in similar circumstances, and I know how crummy that feels… I hope you get your Old Warrior!
That was a really crummy executive decision…that dude needs some lessons on how to run a store! It really felt awful. I sort of went into shock as soon as he said it was already gone, and didn’t hear much else of what he said after that. My fiance, Matt, was with me at the time and he said he could tell how heartbroken I was, apparently I looked absolutely devastated. Part of me hopes he (the manager) saw it too, and saw me in tears outside of his store. I doubt it makes any difference to him, though.
They have a few other dragons in there, and I’d been thinking of getting a few others once I started earning a steadier income, since they’d been so nice to me. Now not only will I not be spending any of my money there, I’ll be telling others about how I was treated and warn them against shopping there, too. I won’t have my money going to a person who’d rather make a quick buck than honour a promise made to a customer.
siberakh1 wrote:That sucks! I’m sorry! They do pop up every once and a while on ebay, or are spotted here or there in stores, so I’d say keep putting your money aside in a ‘Peacock OW fund’ of sorts. I’ll keep my eyes out for one!
Oh yeah, and welcome!
Thanks so much, I really would appreciate knowing there are people out there looking out for one. It’s really kind of you. : )
And thank you. : )
wolflodge100 wrote:Yes, or at least have the decency to call you and say he needed more money! They are still out there. I will keep an eye out for you! 😀
I would have appreciated a call. As I said, if I’d known more money was needed, I would have worked it out. My fiance was helping me to pay for him anyway, so it wouldn’t have been an issue. I wasn’t even given the chance to do that, though.
I’m really upset about all this. I was treating myself to that dragon as sort of a reward for sticking with a lousy part-time, minimum wage job that I hate instead of walking out the million or so times I was tempted to quit. : (
WHAT A JERK! 👿
The fact that they agreed to hold it for you for $7, he should have respected the deal and hold it until you could pay him. What he did was totaly wrong! He should have contacted you before selling it to someone else. I think he must have been scared that you would not pay him since you had only given him $7. I assume he had a buyer that would purchase it right away and did not want to miss out. But this still does not excuse his behaviour.Hey I’m in Canada too…where are you?
Yeah, I know. When I told him that I’d made an agreement with one of his employees, he said that was his fault, for “poor training.” Well, I work in retail too, and I think that even if one of your employees makes a mistake like that, the agreement should either be honoured or modified. You don’t go against it and make the customer pay for someone else’s mistake. It wasn’t my fault things weren’t handled properly, and yet I’m the one losing out as a result.
He never got back to me, even though both I and my fiance called to say I still wanted the dragon. It just frustrates me to no end.
I’m in Ottawa, so not too far from you, it seems. : )
