My next door neighbors (from 15 years ago) had a calico who was laid-back, sweet, gentle, you name it. I can’t ever remember her getting mad. She would come and sit in my lap when I was waiting for the school bus in the mornings.

Hmm . . . there goes that theory. 😉 Seriously, though, I’m glad to hear of a placid calico. It means that they really are just regular cats. Although no cat wants to be thought of as “just regular” anything! 😛

Speaking as someone who doesn’t handle being away from the hubby very well, the best thing I’ve found is to set up “projects” to give the time some structure. You’ve got a fairly long stretch of time to deal with, so the old “catch up on the yukky parts of housekeeping” thing isn’t much help. 😉 So–can we turn this time into something beneficial for you, yourself? Were there other classes that you didn’t have time for in school but wished you could have taken? Are there classes that would be useful to you in your writing? (It’s amazing what can be useful. I took a course on California geology because I had to, and I still use the material!) What would further your career, or refresh your enjoyment in your writing? Is there something that you’ve always wanted to do but that doesn’t interest your fiance? This would be an ideal time to do it.

You’ve learned several instruments. Are there any bands or small performance groups in the area that you’d like to join? Would you be interested in playing the piano for the residents at a seniors’ center (assuming they have a piano)? I can guarantee they’d love some music. And music is a good way to let off emotional stress. Wind instruments also encourage deep breathing, which relieves stress. When you’re feeling really down, pick up that sax or the harmonica and have a good old blow. 🙂

And regarding painting: heck, get a Muse. You can’t do wrong by her–she’s very forgiving. Really. Besides, she’s cute, woogly eyes and all. Hardly needs the Dixie cup.

Hang in there. You can always find company here if you need it! 🙂

She’s a tortie! No wonder she’s wild and crazy!

Torties and calicos are cool. The black (or dark gray) patches of fur are due to one X chromosome. The orange patches are due to the other X chromosome. So they really are patchwork cats! Incidentally, this is why you’ll almost never find a male calico: he’d have to be XXY, and that doesn’t happen very often (it’s kind of bad for the kitty when it does).

Just a dribble of genetics nerding. 😛

These gals also seem to have a double dose of PMS, or at the least a lively temper. Don’t know why, but a laid-back calico or tortie is pretty rare. My first kitty was tortie and white. She was sweet, loving, and a wonderful companion . . . but don’t cross her! 🙂

I’m so glad that you’re feeling better. 😀 Abscesses are kind of gross, but that old “better out than in” really applies to them. Also–I don’t know if this helps to know, or if it’s TMI–once an abscess forms, it means that the body has consolidated all the inflamed nastiness and put it in one place so it can bust out and be gotten rid of. So it’s kind of a good thing. In a way. It just hurts like a blankety-blank. 😯

Hope the healing goes quickly and smoothly for you from here!

AAAaaarrgh! Those VF Fledgies must have gone like little gold hotcakes! I missed them!

    Will there be more?

If everything works out as planned, I get to see it tomorrow! Whee! 🙂

I voted for number one because I thought it was the same as the one in the bottom left corner of this picture.

    That’s the one I want. 🙂

If the Poad at bottom left is number 1 in the pizza pic, then I definitely want that one. I would also love to see numbers 4, 5, and 17.

That said, I’d probably take any. 😛 But number 1 got my vote today.

Made a new topic since this query is buried in my WIsh List thread and others might not know it’s there.

Out of curiosity, for those of you interested in the following pieces, how much would you be willing to pay for them? PM me.

    Black Griffin
    Black Mother Unicorn
Emerald Coiled Dragon with Gold Egg
    Kirin baby
    Kirin Father
    Numbered Wind Wizard peacock
    Mouse Wizard Peacock
    Sea Jewel mermaid
    Roaring Sentinel Gargoyle

I do NOT have them but might be able to get them. That is a HUGE “might”. If you dont wish to put your price limit here, please PM me. Again, make no mistake, dont get your hopes up. Im just asking. Only PM if youre serious.

    Thanks!

    Hi PT,

Wow, if you were able to lay hands on a black mother unicorn and male Ki-Rin, I’d pay *bleep–edited* for the unicorn and *bleep–edited again ;)* for the male Ki-rin (I’m really wishing for one of those). You’re naming some good names here! 🙂

After much thought because of what DM and Dragoness have said I think they are very right, keeping him is better, I will have to think of something else to get money for new curlies.

I don’t blame you. 🙂 Best of luck with your curlies!

in reply to: Desperately Seeking Baby Ki-Rin! #595291

Regarding the baby ki-rin: apparently there’s one up on eBay-UK. Aldana spotted him–they have him down as a “Windstone baby dragon”. Her post with the link is in General Windstone. (I don’t know how to post a link to the thread yet, but it’s titled “A Baby dragon?”.)

    Good luck!

in reply to: My doctors office scammed me!! #595773

Bloody ‘ell. You just have to wonder where these people were when the basic decency was handed out. 👿

With the move and all, I need to find a new doctor, new dentist, new ophthalmologist, new chiro, yadda yadda yadda. I know for a fact that my old chiro’s office used to charge my insurance buckets more than they ever charged me when I was paying for it, but they pretended that the difference was due to a “cash discount”. I guess they were into cheating the insurance companies too. And people at the office used to gripe about their insurance premiums going up. Wonder why?! 😡 So I just hope I can find a doctor and etc. that’s both competent and honest. Hard enough knowing if one is competent . . . although one generally finds out the hard way, eventually.

Best of luck to you, purpledoggy, and don’t let these buggers buffalo you. Go get ’em! You’ve got your receipts: this may be paranoid of me, but by gosh don’t let the originals out of your hands! If the billing office wants proof, give ’em copies. I wouldn’t trust those characters any further than I could throw ’em.

Hand is still miserable, it’s gonna be a long weekend and week. It doesn’t help that there is no way to predict how long this will take to heal. I really don’t need to be out of work for weeks. So I really hope I will be back in the trenches by the Monday after next.

Thanks for the well wishes, worst thing is I can’t even paint right now, because I would have to hold the uni with my left hand, and its the one that is all buggered up.

    Kyrin

Oh boy. Hang in there! 🙁 Stay indoors where it’s cool: heat can speed up the formation of an abscess, but you don’t need any more physical stress right now.

Regarding painting: Would it help you to put your PYO on a lazy susan? It doesn’t let you get to the underside of surfaces, but it would let you spin that little rascal to whichever side you wanted to work on. Target should have some little eight-inch ones that are pretty convenient.

    Good luck!

Wow! Thank you for posting this! 😀

I was too late for the Ki-Rins (wah! That guy is a nightmare to find!) but I got a black griffin! And a Flap Cat, just because I’m silly and they’re cute. 😉

    in reply to: Owiee…darn Hobo spiders… #595553

OW. Kyrin, I am so sorry to hear about your hand! I really hope you start feeling better soon. What a horrible experience! 🙁

Now I am going to have to take a more careful look at the spiders that have been running around this house. I thought they were just wolf spiders, but maybe not all of them are. Brr. I don’t like spiders anyway–nothing personal, it’s just they creep me out–and I’d rather leave them alone, but I may break that rule if I spot something that looks like a hobo spider. Nasty!

in reply to: Koishii PYO Batch 3 *new Dragonessjade's dragon* #595332

Whee! He’s coming along so nicely! And that striped fellow next to him is quite striking–I’ll be curious to see how you finish him. I may be spending more money sometime . . . 🙂
