Well these are ONLY pictures of one of the new buildings. they said they got a 2nd building too.

I’ll have to take pics of the other one, too. It’s right down the street. Only trouble is, it’s ugly–we refer to it lovingly as “Chernobyl” (or in the worst case scenario, “Chury”). The building is a towering edifice of grey cement, and the yard is full of old cars and junk. At the moment it’s serving as nothing more than a storage unit.

By the way, since you ask, Darjeb, I never want to see a cardboard box again!!!!

If there is a 2nd floor it sounds like you will have more space

We have way more office space in this building, only trouble is the space we need is space we can put warehouse stuff in. Upstairs is hard to fill since a lot of what we need is storage room, but upstairs isn’t built well enough to store heavy stuff. One of the problems with this building is that we actually have way too much office space and not enough warehouse space!

YAY! We are shipping again!!!!! That stupid shipping scale/computer was giving poor young John such a hard time… 😛

If anyone’s been wondering what happened to all the remaining Windstone staff members, this ought to shed some light! We’re in week two of unpacking at the new factory. Here are some snapshots I took on day three.

First off, this is an outside view of the new HQ:

Melody behind some boxes in what is now a temporary office (that thing hanging on the wall in the background is a sample someone sent us years ago of an emperor dragon blanket):

Susie and Robert (the computer guy) in the same front office:

Michael (Susie’s husband) taking a break in the library/copier/knock-off museum room:

Griffin and Pam clean cart wheels while Melody looks on:

Inventory! This was taken from the second floor window. It looks out on the warehouse (where painting, shipping, and lord knows what else will be once it’s all set up).

Melody decided she wanted her studio to be upstairs– trouble is, all of her extremely heavy stuff was DOWNstairs. Amanda and Dan have the solution: cut a hole in the wall so we can forklift stuff up! Here they are posing with the necessary equipment to establish said hole:

Aaaand the hole is becoming a reality! Adam, in the beige shirt, has come to help out.

Thank you all for bearing with us during the move. We’re working hard to get everything up and running again!

PSST– I’m told there will be new stuff on eBay soon!

HAhahahaha… wow… That is an AMAZING cake. I could never eat it. Probably tastes awful, anyway! All that sulfur….

Guess what! It’s my eighteenth! I get to vote in the election!!!

Thank you everyone for the birthday wishes! I laughed at the icing flower one. It’s so, so true… great way to make eight year olds cry. Let’s just hope ten years has made a difference in my ability to maintain friends–or at least, let’s hope the cake has no flowers…

Sure, that works too. I suspect many of the same things that interest readers will interest writers as well. Thanks for your help!

in reply to: Character Development #704482

A friend of mine just asked me to write an article for a writing site (based on role-playing, mostly) about building characters you, as a player, are able to commune with and remain interested in. As a topic, I think this poses a considerable amount of food for thought, and I was wondering if anyone here has any input about character development–not just any character development, but the sort that makes a character start out interesting and remain so for the rest of its lifetime.

What I’m going to focus on, I think, is why or why not any given character becomes important to you as its creator. Writers need to be able to “talk” with their characters, so to speak, in order to fully understand them. What I want to know is what qualities a character and his/her/its author need to have in common in order for them to be compatible. Writers who either role-play textually or write with a deadline (like during NaNoWriMo) will be the sort to understand this most, I think, but anyone who has people inside his/her head should be able to relate.

What makes a character interesting to the writer who created it, and what KEEPS a writer interested in that character? And what mindset makes a writer capable of writing about a character regardless of the mood said writer is in at the time?

    Discuss!

in reply to: Hey mom! What's your favorite beach? #702552

So! We ended up going to Newport beach! Sadly, we didn’t bring the camera, but it was an absolute blast. The first item on the agenda was for me to buy a bathing suit, since I didn’t have one. We wandered around a few ocean side shops, got some sandwiches, and admired all the characteristic houses (there really isn’t anything quite like beach architecture). As soon as we got that out of the way, we ran down to the water… it was freezing at first, but not too hard to get used to. Lots of nice waves to be knocked over by.

After a while, the boys decided to start digging a ditch, as per tradition. My friend Kati (who is also on the forum somewhere) and I stayed in the water just long enough for a jellyfish to wash up onto the sand next to us… At that point, the water didn’t seem *quite* so friendly any more. Eventually the ditch got bigger and we decided to turn it into a hot tub, which was only half-successful, but still exciting.

What was probably the best part, however, was the dolphins. There was a whole pod that came RIGHT UP to the beach, so close that if we were in the water, we might have been able to touch them. We’re pretty sure they were mating, since they apparently come up close when it’s time. I wish now that we’d had a camera!

Aren’t you supposed to be doing calculus?

    …..
But we’re moving and I won’t get to see these people any more! More important than calculus.

Oooh, nice. Snow and ancient trees- I approve.

Hey Leigha, you’d be welcome to come if you did live closer! You should go to the beach anyway tomorrow. 😀 It can be Nation Wide Beach Day!

Hmm… Zuma beach… I’ll look into it! Was it good for swimming? I imagine that’s mostly what we’ll do, unless it’s way too cold (which it hopefully won’t be!).

    Happy Mom’s Day, moms!

It’s always nice to have a national holiday for getting on your mother’s good side.

Dude, talk about exciting! I’m so glad to hear it! There’s just … something so wonderful about hitting the right story. All it takes is inspiration, but it’s so rare to find the perfect motivation! Congratulations! I’m off to check out what you have.
