    HAPPY ANIVERSARY PEOPLES!!

Man, I’m a few hours late. Sort of slept in a bit too long… But hey, 32 is a good number! 42 would be better of course– the answer to life, the universe, and everything. Oh well, we can compromise with 32.

Thanks for the pics, Chess, and I am glad you both had fun 🙂

Sure thing! I just wish I had a better selection of pictures to show you guys. Oh well, next time I will bring a better camera!

in reply to: So, um… any idea how to glue vinyl back together? #594109

Hmm, thanks for all the input! It sounds like superglue will work. I was thinking maybe epoxy. As for brittleness, that shouldn’t be much of a problem unless he gets into another battle with Father Andersen.

Oh, and I hadn’t even thought of the fact that glue might “eat” the vinyl. O.O Thanks for pointing that out!

Because… well, you see, I bought an Alucard (anime character from Hellsing) figurine and I’ve already broken off his tie. I’m not sure if I ought to try melting it back on, or just hold out for some kind of uber glue… Any ideas?

Duuuuude I so did not run into you there. Oh wells!

Here, for all you impatient peoples, have some terrible, terrible pictures I took with my $30 spycam.

Costumed peoples posing for the cams (not sure which anime/manga they’re from… possibly a myriad):

And there was this person dressed up as a Wiimote!!

Yup! Wish I was a better photographer, or at least patient enough to not start moving before the camera was done taking a picture. Oh well. The con itself was an absolute BLAST, I was there Sunday and today. If you saw a dude on Sunday with a neon green dress shirt and waistcoat and full-face black mask, and/or old Sophie from Howl’s Moving Castle and another dude with a gas-mask, waistcoat, and civil war era-type coat, I was running around with them.

This was my first Anime convention, and I gotta say it was utterly, utterly worth it, and I’d definitely do it again. And again. All the costumes were aMAZing.

There’s me (one in the middle) at the Renaissance Faire with some random barbarians.

When I was about two or so, we had these big cardboard building blocks… they were large enough and sturdy enough that I could make a balance beam out of them and walk across it. I did so, slipped, and hit the coffee table. There is still a scar on my bottom lip… my parents decided it wasn’t big enough to need stitches for, although they did take me to the ER. I’m rather fond of my scar.

My brother… well. We have this little satyr/gargoyle garden statue. It has really spiky hair. One day, while running out the door, my brother fell on the satyr’s hair and punched a hole in his head. Funny thing is, when my parents took him to the doctor, he couldn’t stop laughing while they cleaned out the wound. What a dork. 😆

Oh, Miyazaki is incredible! Princess Mononoke was an excellent film, particularly storywise. Spirited Away is amazing, too.

Nowadays it seems there are more fantasy stories centered around less-cliche ideas. The genre has gone nuts in the last couple of years; a lot of the stuff spewed out of the fantasy boom was uck, but there are still some amazing things out there, like Suzanna Clarke’s Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell.

Anydangways, I too am working on (or trying to work on) a high fantasy novel without any clear-cut good and evil (not because I set out to do it that way but because it just happened), and I’m finding it tough to keep the plot strong. All I gotta say is kudos to people who can pull it off.

Gosh. You guys are prolific. I didn’t realize you had written a whole book and published it before, GB. Perhaps it’s a bit belated, but congratulations!

Haha, I’ve never spelled anything backwards perfectly by accident… that’s quite a skill, actually. Hehe. Funny how mindwarping writing can be.

    !!!!!!!

Adaneth!! Changing font and layout is a brilliant idea!!! Oh my gosh, you have no idea how much that is going to help me. Sorry about the excitement, but really, man, that is an excellent idea. I never even thought of that. Memorizing things is exactly what I have trouble with a lot of the time, and it makes me miss stuff just like you said. Haha, and it’s such an obvious thing, too. So simple. Waah.

    Wow.

    Thanks.

Now I have to go try it. 😀

OH thank goodness! I don’t know any other writers so this is a big relief. A lot of what you said in the second paragraph, I fall under the same catagory. Sorry if my spelling is off I haven’t slept in about 4 days. Its nice that you can count on your family to help you with your book. I know my mom would but she is always so busy I don’t really get to ask her, plus her eyes don’t do to well when she has to read for more than half an hour. As for getting my brother to read anything that isn’t in a medschool book I’m pretty much on my own. So I find myself with typos, missing words and things. Do you find yourself after a long period of writing mispelling really easy words but getting all the difficult ones right on the first try? I think after a while I just get a gigantic brain fart and I cramp up all together. I sometimes have to stop writing. Sorry, I’m talking your leg off 😳

It’s funny you should say that, because I’ve noticed it too! Especially when chatting on AIM or some such thing after writing all day… I’ll find myself trying to spell “city” with an S and failing miserably. Usually I use MS Word, which underlines misspellings, so it isn’t too bad while I’m actually working on something, but afterwards everything goes to all heck. 😆

Oh, and as for getting a second opinion, you should check out Writing.com. It’s an excellent site for feedback as long as you don’t mind putting your stuff up for all to see.

Editing is my greatest hurdle, so great in fact that I’ve found I do far better when I’m editing as I go. This is a pain, since of course it’s most comfortable to just blast things out without really thinking about them, but for quality’s sake, constant revision is the only thing that works for me. Otherwise I just don’t finish anything. One reason for this is that my style has not settled yet… because it’s changing constantly I can’t let something alone for a while, say a couple of months, and still go back to it without wanting to just rewrite everything from scratch. There are several ambitious projects I want to go back to and finish, but they feel stagnant now and I don’t know how to go about re-immersing myself.

So, yes. Editing is a pain.

Aw, shucks, guys. ^_^ Thank you for all the birthday wishes. And they were early, too! Hee. After all, I’ve always wished I was born on the sixth… (Then last year I would have had devilday all to myself! Mwahaha.)

We’re going out for Indian food tonight. Mmmm.

I love Indian food! Eat some for me! 😀
And for me also, but make sure it isn’t too spicy. 😀

Believe me, I ate enough for EVERYONE.

Oh, and come to think of it, I DID get a Windstone for my birthday! My friend Charlotte and I ended up at the factory painting PYOs. I did a kirin… His name is Frank. He’s the buttugliest thing I’ve ever seen. I’m not kidding or being modest, either. 😀
