      YAY! I’m very proud of myself! I FINALLY after YEARS of this poor fellow collecting dust, I fixed my super busted Emperor!!!

      I bought him from someone on the forum… I don’t think they are on anymore, ( I honestly forget the name of the member) but I remember they were super nice and I only paid like $35 or so bucks for him because he was missing his feet and tail. I had thought I would make a bust or something out of him at one point or something like that. (This was before I started actually fixing Windstones) I was shocked to see he actually stands when I got him, so I decided to try and fix him after all this time!!! Here is a photo (semi tutorial) of how I did it! Squee!

      So here he is! *pathetic ain’t he?*

      Here is the break… or what was left of him…

      I am a perfectionist, but not a master sculptor by ANY means so for a job this big I had to use a new method and attempt to make a mold of the tail. I used my other Emperor to do it (OMG, and was scared out of my mind it was gonna hurt the paint on him, but it didn’t thankfully)

      I used gauze patches and layer upon layer of latex mold maker goop. Now it fit pretty perfectly on the broken one ( I made sure I made the mold too big for the repair area so it would be able to “hold” onto the break

      So now I took a break for about 2 years and forgot about this 😳

      Then!!! stuffed him in my Tidy Cat bin! 😆

      I don’t know if this was necessary, but I brushed a tiny bit of powder in cause I was afraid the plaster would stick to the mold for some reason.

      I brushed in some plaster first to make sure he wouldn’t be all full of air bubbles. Then I filled the mold up a little bit at a time moving the plaster around and into all the nooks and crannies

      Let him dry completely! ( I didn’t do this the first time and I COMPLETELY wrecked it and had to do it all over. The tail looked like a block of cottage cheese!)

      I was super impatient, but as you can see, it’s starting to set up!

      After you’re SURE it’s dry, start to CAREFULLY pull off the mold! EEEP! SO COOL!!

      WOOT! Marvel at the results!


      The mold, and the new fixed dragon! YAY!

      NOW I GET TO PAINT HIM!

                        I am loving the purple color you have going in the last set of photos.

                        I’m also surprised that making the mold didn’t do anything to the paint of the non-damaged emp.

                          I was really shocked too. The latex STUNK to high heaven (like ammonia) so I thought for sure it would damage the clear coat or peel the paint or something. I tested it on another broken windstone first, but just a tiny spot because I was already scared I wouldn’t have enough to cover the huge tail and it worked fine. I was still nervous though!

                                I knew this would be fascinating. 😀 And thanks, Pegasi for the link; you always come through. I was wondering what happened to at least some of the pieces. :scratch:

                                Out of curiosity, what do you do if you don’t have another dragon to use to make a mold? 😕

                                  That is the coolest repair job i’ve ever seen!!!!! 😮 I hope you will post picture of him when you are don’t painting him! I love the paint job so far
