this turned out positively lovely 😀
the pearl definitely worked i can’t see it to well in the photos but i can tell it’s there 😉if you ever do one again i think throwing in some tan would look great like a thunderhead at sunset 😀
February 6, 2011 at 9:03 pm #800153My sister told me of this fella as you were painting him! I am really struck by him. For only using black and white, the affect is very powerful and striking. This definitely looks like he took a while to do. Getting a pattern with only two colors that looks natural and gives off an affect is not easy to do, and he definitely came out a winner. I just love the optical trick it plays of your eyes as you look at him, it reminds me of looking at the shadow of clouds and of those days where sunlight is broken by thier shadows. But you can still see the form of the dragon, which is important too.
Really great piece, I enjoy it immensely.
February 6, 2011 at 9:08 pm #800154Also, the idea my sister mentioned, a sunset thunderhead Keeper, if you do something like that, I would love to see it! It seems like it would be fitting, no? Miss Storm Hunter 😀
February 6, 2011 at 10:03 pm #800155Wow – I can’t wait to see this dragon in person! MG and I did discuss having lightening bolts on the wings but decided against it. I like him just the way he is. 😀
February 7, 2011 at 12:05 am #800156Wow thanks guys, that really means a lot to me! I love reading your ideas about these pieces, it shows me another perspective that I wouldn’t have seen otherwise. Very cool thoughts!
Koishii as a matter of fact I’m currently working on a Tornado Keeper for JellyFish. I should have the photos posted later tonight! 🙂

February 7, 2011 at 6:14 am #800159As some of you know, I’m an avid storm chaser and have quite the obsession for severe weather and tornadoes! As a matter of fact this season will be my 9th year chasing. 🙂 Hard to believe it has been that long! I shoot photography and video on our chases, but ultimately the goal is to provide NOAA and local authorities with the information required to get the warning out faster for those in the path of severe weather. We relay this info via ham radio or cell phone, depending on our location.
“Tornado” is a commission for JellyFish, and I had an absolute blast painting him! He has one tornado on each side, complete with a little debris cloud. He has metallic teal eyes and a blue zircon tail jewel. In his paw he holds a hand made sparkly clay tornado which jiggles around in circles on its sterling silver hook. My next weather related PYO will be painted to look like actual doppler radar, in the shape of a hook echo. 🙂
February 7, 2011 at 6:20 am #800160You have a gift, MG! Your keepers really look like they are glowing! Amazing work!!
February 7, 2011 at 7:52 am #800161I LOVE it! I am so happy 😀
I have lived through two tornados one REALLY big one and a smaller one a couple summers ago that took the lives of some of my livestock and out buildings (luckily did minimal damage to our house)
The other is called black friday and that took my neighbours homes and some lives. (also was my birthday) 🙁 I have been obsessed with them ever since so I am very happy to have my own tornado keeper 🙂
Thank you MG 🙂February 7, 2011 at 6:54 pm #800162Ooo. I really like this guy!
February 7, 2011 at 7:20 pm #800163Man! I’m really loving these weather themed dragons your painting, MG. So cool and original 😀 .
February 7, 2011 at 7:42 pm #800164So cool MG! I love the lightning on him! The little tornado in his paw totally completes it 🙂
