This starts rather badly but I promise there is a “Heck Yeah” at the end…
My sister lives in Deweyville, Tx, and was told about two weeks ago that a flood was coming. At first, she planned to ride it out in her second story bedroom (her family did just that in the big flood of 1989). Her family (kids and grown grandkids) talked her out of staying but she left her two young cats behind with food and water and an open window so they could get out onto the roof of the first story. She and her 72 yr old husband evaluated a week ago last Saturday…and then she heard how much worse this flood was going to be than the ’89 flood. A team went in to try to retrieve the cats but couldn’t catch them and had to leave them. As the waters continued to rise, the authorities would not let anyone go into Deweyville at all. My sister (who is not online at all) got her news from the TV and it was all bad. Last Tuesday she got a message from her stepson who had friends in the area that the water level was eyelevel deep in her second story. We cried; the water was still rising (it crested Tuesday night at ~34.5 ft above floodlevel).
Yesterday they let her back in to check on the house. She went upstairs and her cats were nowhere to be seen. Twenty minutes later, she heard a timid meow and Simba, her orange cat was suddenly there (cat owners know what I’m talking about – they can hide in plain sight). It took a few minutes longer to find Nala, still hiding on the top shelf in the closet. They were hungry, thirsty and had filled the litter box and some but they weed alive and well. Alice’s house is still destroyed but it was definitely a “Heck Yah!” moment.

Wow rock-reader, your sister lives right around the corner from me! I’m in Bridge City where we didn’t get any flooding, but I Was stuck in Louisiana due to the interstate being closed for a few days. Thankfully my job put me up till I could get back home. So glad your sister’s cats were okay!

Not sure if this is a “Heck Yeah” or an “Oh No” (or if it belongs someplace else) but it made me laugh … Roads in my community are being repaved and traffic patterns are disrupted, so a neighbor wanted to know where the work crew would be tomorrow. I did a real double-take when I saw the title of her message. She asked about “Poad Paving”. 😀

Chicago Cubs win the World Series [for the first time since 1908]. Wish it could have happened while my mother the Cubs fan was alive but still … Heck Yeah!

Yeah my friend said a similar thing that his grandpa would have been happy about the Cubs winning the world series if he was still alive too.

Looking for rainbow or pink & teal grab bags!

If you’re in the US – Don’t forget to VOTE! My mother-in-law was born in January 1920, before ratification of the 19th amendment giving women the right to vote, and she cast her ballot this election. So did my sister and I.
