February 23, 2011 at 6:41 pm #829742I took in my application last week to a local nursing home, got a call yesterday to come in today for an interview. Did the interview and 35 min later got a call at home and was offered the job. Will start orientation March 3rd for a certified nursing assistant position. One thing I was iffy about, apparently new aids are required to offer two different shifts they can work :/ I want 2nd, and since I will still be working two days per week at my old job, the thought of possibly working 3 different time schedules in a week does not sound fun… Anyway, I’m pleased because I have a choice of lower pay (still higher than I’m making now) and benefits, or higher pay and no benefits. I’ve NEVER had benefits. No health insurance, nothing. Also, I get a .50 differential for weekends (which I am offering to work every weekend) and .50 for second shift. And if I choose benefits, I get double time and a half for holidays. Never gotten that before either!

February 24, 2011 at 7:39 pm #829744I’m very excited about my new volunteer position at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago. I am still in the midst of training. I hope to get qualified soon to work with the starfish exhibit. Eventually I hope to work my up to working with other animals. I am in guest engagement which means I am sort of the middle man between the exhibit and the guest. I get to talk with the guests and answer questions and also ask them questions to engage them in the experience. I hope to also be able to work with penguins and otters. If anyone happens to be at the Shedd on a Saturday… you might see me there 🙂

March 1, 2011 at 4:46 pm #829746Isn’t it fun Peg? LOL. My son was 8 when he lost his first tooth. Then he dropped 5 more in the same year. Not sure how he was managing to eat, but he was very rich for a while! 😀

She is within walking distance of my house YAY!!
