April 4, 2008 at 6:05 am #636828They’re both aptly named. I like the subtlety of Desert Bloom.
April 4, 2008 at 6:39 am #636829OHHhh those are so beautiful!
I loved the bloom the most as well 😉
he eyes just go so well with the light purple paint “:)June 30, 2008 at 1:52 am #636830While I work on cheetah griffs 2 & 3, I thought I’d post pics of the griffin I just painted for a friend. It was long overdue and I was trying to tie in everything she wanted has been a pain in the rear (just getting the feathers to look right and getting artist block on him ). She requested a snowleopard bottom with light blue eyes. The feathers are a conglomeration of several hawks taken from several boy’s haori we picked apart for what aspects she liked about each of them. She liked the idea of intereference paint.
He is finally done and should be arriving at his destination Tuesday. He has a little bit of subtle striping on the primaries, which are brushed with blue interference. His banding, the top ridge of his nostrils, just above his eye, and his spots are also brushed with blue inference. He has silver talons and I used silver pearl-ex powder brushed over his claws and pearl white pearl-ex powder brushed over his white areas. He is a blue-ish steel gray to match the feathers instead of a true snowleopard color on his rump (the brownish/grey would have clashed). He also has some silver details on the end of his tail and on his cheeks. He holds a genuine blue topaz. I haven’t thought of a proper name for him yet. 😀
**Goshike Koi-rin**
Long overdue in getting posted, this other guy is the koi-rin I painted for Melody back last year when a bunch of forum members got together and did this. Mine was a little late, so missed getting in the group shots. He is painted after a Goshike Koi. I can think of things I would have done differently now, but I still think he is rather cute. He is antiqued, but it doesn’t show up very well.
June 30, 2008 at 2:39 am #636831Wow!!! They’re both great! The SnowLeopard came out fantastic!

And the ki-rin’s markings are spectacular! I had no idea there were koi that looked like that. I’m sure they’re beautiful fish, but I can’t help thinking that your ki-rin looks even better than they do. These are spectacular PYOs! 😀
June 30, 2008 at 2:56 am #636834They’re both fabulous!
June 30, 2008 at 3:50 am #636835Oooh! Very pretty! I especially like that griffin.
June 30, 2008 at 5:34 am #636836I like them both, but the kirin is more striking. Nice work.
June 30, 2008 at 12:39 pm #636837I like the dramatic coloring on that kirin, and I really like the feather details on the griffin. Great work on both of them! 😀
July 1, 2008 at 1:10 am #636838Both are very nice!!
July 3, 2008 at 10:12 pm #636839I think that Goshike Koi-rin is beautiful! The red marking is so striking and the gray antiquing is a great detail. I don’t usually love such bold markings, but I’m loving this Koi-rin.
I’m interested to know what you would have done differently?

Thanks! I would have antiqued a little under some of the edge orange scaley spots as a better transition (there is a darker orange antiquing… it just doesn’t show up in the photos), like on the picture, spent a little more time detailing and layering the fur on the legs a bit (maybe blended in a little of the orange), and maybe added little white markings up on the face, like the koi has. I don’t think I antiqued the white at all (I added pearlesence to his belly, but I didn’t antique the white… I’ve sinced learned that if I spray and let it sit, I can antique well after without losing any paint (I was having issues with one of the colors because I was using thin layers of paint… they’d wipe away when I was antiquing, which was a paint when trying to get smooth scales and clean antiquing!). I do think he’s a cutie though. I need to do more koi-rins…
Nope… not picky at all 😆
