I like the Old Green/Brown families, they compliment each other so nicely. 🙂 And the Ruby shelf too! That color is so rich. Where did you manage to find a Ruby Young? Those are toughies.
July 20, 2011 at 3:20 am #851524I have a young, but he’s not in the pic. The dark ruby fledgling is. I have all of the rubies, but they dont all fit on that shelf. I also have the scratcher, rising spectral, young, hatchling, lap, emperor and a second fledgling thats lighter ruby.
July 20, 2011 at 5:22 am #851527That’s insane. 🙂 Nice collection, wow.

I love your sets Wampus.
July 20, 2011 at 2:16 pm #851535I finally got my hands on a Gothic Uni!
I’m not as pleased with him as I thought I would be 🙁
he’s got white splatter marks on his hind flank. They are hard to see in pictures because there’s so much shine going on in his coat that it was hard for ME to see where the splatter marks were in the picture! I had to hold the uni in front of me to figure out which were glare and which were paint.
Anyway, it just seems to me that with a scheme that is (seemingly, I’m assuming here) this simple and likely easy to do, that there would be zero oversight for defects like this.. I mean, it’s WHITE paint splattered on his BLACK hind leg! It was the first thing I saw when I opened the package, so it’s really noticable in person.
This is the type of thing that I can easily fix myself, but it’s disappointing that I have to do it. I don’t like the idea of touching up a piece that I just got from the factory, especially since I don’t have the same topcoat as them.. it’s just disheartening.,/B>
(emphasis mine)
Mine has a large chunk missing from the plaster. It looks like it might have gotten broken off during de-molding and painted over.
I always pay really close attention to Goth hooves because they’re so easy to chip, and this one, to me, looks like a botched repair and not something that came direct from the factory…. And he definitely doesn’t match my original white one in this area. 🙁
If you are ever disappointed, disheartened, frustrated or otherwise unhappy with a piece because it’s goofed up or somehow damaged, etc, please let Susie know. Windstone works so, so hard to make sure that customers are happy with the final product. Sometimes oversights happen; the factory is small, there are few people, and compared to the small number of eyes that look over a piece there is a really high volume! If you are unhappy everyone want to make it right.
Please just give Windstone a chance to do so…My silver old warrior has a black splatter on his non display side belly scales-and its on a silver scale so its VERY noticeable. I havent considered returning him-mostly because old warriors are so darn expensive to ship.
If the paint splotch will bother you and you are unhappy, Windstone pays shipping for the return…

Please just give Windstone a chance to do so…I know that they would Jennifer, and with another company I would demand a replacement, but honestly I love Windstone too much to trouble them with taking this piece back and fixing it. I’m already not too keen on the color scheme, so it wouldn’t be worth it for them to pay the shipping charges for a fix. Maybe the way I’m explaining it doesn’t make sense, but it’s more worth it to me to keep the piece as it is than the knowledge that I would have made Windstone pay shipping 2 ways on a piece I wasn’t in love with in the first place.
It’s a weird spot for me, because it’s minor enough that I could fix it myself, but I fear devaluing the piece if I do that.. yet, that’s really my only concern with the piece.
I do know completely that if I ever have a problem with a piece I can go to Windstone about it 🙂 This was worth notifiying others that may have gotten the sculpt and may have not noticed a problem until later, but not worth taking up Windstone time with 🙂
Commission spots are currently closed! Please message me for details.

I am in Hannah’s spot too–I feel a little bad costing Windstone $$$ to ship, for a relatively minor flaw.
And my Goth is from the original batch of 10, which makes him kind of special to me also. To me, it kind of tips the scales for keeping him. I don’t know! Heh. It’s kind of hard to decide.
Oh, and hey Wampus, sorry I meant the Ruby Young Oriental! I spent forever trying to find mine and got lucky on Craigslist a few months back. I was wondering if you found a store or if you had a cool collector’s find yourself. 🙂
July 20, 2011 at 5:28 pm #851554Oh! I found him when I was calling around to California dealers. The dealer who had him also ran a second hand antique business and he was on commission. Perfect condition, no box. I got him for 90.00!!
July 20, 2011 at 6:15 pm #851556I’d just about kill for some of those pieces in your collection Wampus x.x
you don’t have any one you want me to kill for you do you? LOL!

Ashley your dragons are so pretty, I love all the pink ones, especially the oriental. Those rubies are just gorgeous too! Congrats on them all 😀
July 21, 2011 at 1:22 am #851599Interesting.
When I got my gothic unicorn, he also had paint rubs on him (or paint splatters). I didn’t say anything about it… just touched it up myself.
He also had spots that looked like they weren’t even painted. Like it just had airbrush over-spray on it, but otherwise wasn’t painted…I have a problem with this type of thing because… we’re paying a very high pretty penny for these statues. It really sucks that something so obvious can get thru. If I had paid $20 for a statue that had issues, that’s no problem. But $100 for a statue that has issues… just doesn’t sit well in my mind.
And to see that other people are having the same issue! If more than one of these statues had these problems, why weren’t they caught?
I’d just expect at such a high price, that the statues would be thoroughly inspected to make sure there weren’t problems like these. Especially since, when you think about it, you’re paying the most money for the paint job… not the sculpture. Also, I wanted to make a joke about WS owing me money because the tag on the gothic unicorn was bent. This was just a funny lol to that whole issue about a bent tag on ebay, and the person wanting a refund on $40 because of it.
On the same hand I can vouch for windstone doing the return thing. A bought an amethyst hatching kinglet and he came with a huge chip on his eye socket. I got a return shipping label and a new sculpture. It was awhile ago, but I may have even been sent the statue first, with the return label included with the replacement. That right there is fantastic.

There were rubs on a black Gothic unicorn??? Where? We went over those things about three different times! Do you have a pic?
July 21, 2011 at 2:52 am #851613I don’t >___< I painted over the said spots pretty much right after I took him out of the box. I also didn't intend to say anything because I felt it wasn't a big enough deal to bring up… I know accidents happen, but I bring it up now because other people are having problems.
But the rubs were on the underside of his tail and the general tip of the tail.
The "air brush over spray" part was on his neck, the side.July 21, 2011 at 4:05 am #851621Now that everyone’s bringing it up, I went and checked my gothic unicorn too. He has white specks and areas along his back, under his tail, and along the underside of his hind legs that look like the were over-sprayed with black instead of being painted black (the white shows through making the areas look brownish). I’m kind of torn about what to do. Black is a fairly easy color to fix and I have the ability to fix it, but I’ll be re-painting sections of him black, and I’m kind of afraid that will significantly ruin its value…
I guess I’m rather spoiled though. I have many excellently painted pieces that this just kind of glares at me. I just need to think about it some more.
July 21, 2011 at 4:46 am #851626I just went over mine again, and mine is perfect. No paint or mold flaws.
