I think I was one of the last few buyers of the slate grulla babies, they were out of stock in the store the next day…also the flash of the camera brightened up his face and body a ton, he’s got a real dark face IRL…
4 things I'm looking for:
1. Mother Meerkat
2. production color Sitting Young Oriental dragons to be made in more colors besides VF, Brimstone would be awesome!
3. Female Griffin – Siamese with White
4. September Raffle Prize 2022 AHD Male GriffinJuly 16, 2011 at 7:29 pm #851103found my Magic Cat, it was still packed up with the move….and dusty! eep!

4. September Raffle Prize 2022 AHD Male GriffinJuly 19, 2011 at 8:02 pm #851470I finally got my hands on a Gothic Uni!
I’m not as pleased with him as I thought I would be 🙁
The main reason I’m not as happy with him as I thought I would be:
he’s got white splatter marks on his hind flank. They are hard to see in pictures because there’s so much shine going on in his coat that it was hard for ME to see where the splatter marks were in the picture! I had to hold the uni in front of me to figure out which were glare and which were paint.
Anyway, it just seems to me that with a scheme that is (seemingly, I’m assuming here) this simple and likely easy to do, that there would be zero oversight for defects like this.. I mean, it’s WHITE paint splattered on his BLACK hind leg! It was the first thing I saw when I opened the package, so it’s really noticable in person.
This is the type of thing that I can easily fix myself, but it’s disappointing that I have to do it. I don’t like the idea of touching up a piece that I just got from the factory, especially since I don’t have the same topcoat as them.. it’s just disheartening.

I’m sorry Hannah…
I love my Goth but I noticed something off about mine also. Do you think you could take a closeup of the front left hoof on yours for me?
Mine has a large chunk missing from the plaster. It looks like it might have gotten broken off during de-molding and painted over.
I always pay really close attention to Goth hooves because they’re so easy to chip, and this one, to me, looks like a botched repair and not something that came direct from the factory…. And he definitely doesn’t match my original white one in this area. 🙁
I’ll add closeups in a few…
July 19, 2011 at 9:48 pm #851492im sure the factory would replace any defective ones if you brought it to their attention. I can sympathize with getting a piece brand new and spotting some issues.
July 19, 2011 at 9:51 pm #851494I think you’re right, Melody and Susie have always been a dream come true when it comes to customer service. 🙂
I was wondering if mine was worth returning/mentioning for a relatively small issue. And I was also wondering too, if maybe the mold had “evolved” in the last 10 years and it was just a difference? So I guess I’d need to see a closeup of someone else’s Goth to see if it’s just mine or a difference with the mold now.
July 19, 2011 at 10:03 pm #851496Hannah,
I had a griffin mother with a slight smudge on her wing… I called Susie and she sent me a return label and When I returned the Mother with the paint defect…she sent me another one! Melody and Susie are so very wonderful about things like that!

July 19, 2011 at 10:03 pm #851497I haven’t gotten mine yet. I mostly got him to put with my black unicorn family since I REALLY like having entire sets. If I find any issues I will post pics as well. I DO like the color scheme, simple though it is.
July 19, 2011 at 10:04 pm #851495I’m positive that the factory would do that as well. However, I feel like this is such a minor thing (and I’m honestly not as smitten with this scheme as I thought I would be – this may very well end up as a very expensive repaint) that I’d rather not even bother with it. I may end up sending along an email letting them know of my issue though, just for future reference.
I took a couple pics of my uni’s front feet, I’ll edit this post in a few mins 🙂
Here they are! I didn’t know which angle you wanted it at so I got a couple 🙂

I know they are 🙂 I would rather not bother with it though, as I just don’t love the scheme on this guy enough to justify making them spend money to get it back and touch up a few white spots.
I’m not in any way trying to say that I’m angry at Windstone for this! I’m sure it was something that happened by accident that just didn’t get seen, as a painter myself I probably have higher expectations and when I see dots of white on black I can’t personally see how that could have been missed. However, I don’t work at Windstone and I don’t know how busy things get! I’m sure if someone saw it they wouldn’t have let it pass. Just wanted to make sure that was clear 🙂

My silver old warrior has a black splatter on his non display side belly scales-and its on a silver scale so its VERY noticeable. I havent considered returning him-mostly because old warriors are so darn expensive to ship.

Yeah.. I thought of that, but honestly I like the look of the unicorn, just not the color scheme. Since there are no (affordable) Gothic Unis available in other schemes right now I’ll likely hold on to him. Repainting is a relatively far off option for this guy, but still a possibility.

I just inspected him thoroughly and things look good. So, I doubt this problem affected too many gothic unicorns. I hope you’re able to get things resolved Hannah. He is my one and likely only gothic and I think he’s lovely despite his simple black paint pattern.
