Awesome find! He’s beautiful. 😀
June 5, 2011 at 5:21 pm #847395Wow he is beautiful! I saw him on ebay. Congrats! He is a true gem!
June 10, 2011 at 5:22 am #847826My husband got me a serpentine curlie, and he arrived today! I must say I love the color. I’ll try to get pictures tomorrow.
ALSO! I noticed his felt pad finally says Oregon! Anyone else notice this detail change? 😀 Yay, Oregon!
June 18, 2011 at 4:52 pm #848580My hubby and I took a road trip yesterday, and bought this lovely lady. She’s my first ever lap dragon, and what really struck me was the amount of violet on her. However, this morning as I was taking pictures I realized that the violet is a bit of a trickster color, because as soon as I took her outside or put any light on her, the violet vanished! It’s a sneaky color, apparently. 😆
Does anyone else have trouble photographing these? And do the laps usually have this much violet on them? I remember an ‘intense violet’ run of the EmPeas, but weren’t those Ebay only? I love her, and I’m also trying to figure out if I got one with an extra helping of violet. 😀 I tried so hard to get an accurate picture, but pretty much failed. She’s got a lot of violet – on her face, neck the tops of her wings, her sides, and down her tail. She’s so beautiful and I’m really bummed I can’t get a good picture. Anyone have any thoughts or ideas?
Outside, the violet vanishes!
Inside, without a flash, the violet is kind of there.
With a flash, it goes away…
And without a flash, it comes back!
Also, here are pictures of my serpentine curlie!
New felt pad!
June 18, 2011 at 6:10 pm #848594I’ve never seen an empea in person, the violet colour looks pretty!
I noticed that with amethyst…the one I have in person I love, but every time I see them in photos I hate them! The blue seems to show up way more in photos than in person.
Congrats on the lap dragon, she’s gorgeous!
June 18, 2011 at 8:10 pm #848616I had the exact same issue when I was trying to photograph my Empea OW – the violet just blends in with the blue in pictures! It definitely looks gorgeous in person though 🙂

June 18, 2011 at 8:16 pm #848618Okay, I’m glad I’m not the only one.
Haha! She must be, she’s from Crystal Magic and smells like incense. 😆

Haha! I love that smell, and it always seems to happen with the Windstones. My Red Fire OW was infused with that sent because of where I bought him. It’s kinda nice.

Yeah, I like it too! 🙂
June 20, 2011 at 8:28 pm #848812That is really cool what happens with the Empea dragons. I can maybe somewhat explain what happens. Sunlight is blue, and so is the flash of a camera. When the bright blue light of the sun or flash hits the violet of the dragon it must totally wash out the red part of the violet leaving only blue. That is why the dragon looks normal with no flash indoors and it loses it’s violet with sunlight or a flash. I guess the best way to take a pic of these guys is indoors using a photographic incandescent bulb that doesn’t add additional blue light. This seems to explain what happens, at least in my world … –> works with color all the time.
June 20, 2011 at 8:30 pm #848813That explanation makes a lot of sense! I’ll have to see if I can get my OW’s colors to come out sometime using incandescent light. Thanks LS! 😀

June 21, 2011 at 12:58 am #848841Intense Violet Empeas were on eBay yes, but the first batch of the production pieces also had this more intense violet! It happened before the color pattern ‘stabilized’ with less violet. The first batch was heavy handed on the violet and Melody scaled it back. So if you find a first generation EmPea dragon it might have ‘too much’ violet. 🙂 I have a mother dragon like this.

Oooh. It’d be impossible for me to really tell without seeing another one in person, but I think this one might be a first batch run. Don’t know if there’s such a thing as too much violet though! 😀 Thanks, Jennifer!
