sorry if this has been asked, I did try to search but didn’t find anything..
my Brown Emperor has a number etched into his base. It was not added afterwards by someone else, as there is paint down inside the lines. I think I read once that Windstones don’t have serial numbers, so what would this be ?
thanks

thanks?????!!!!!???? I didn’t know we ever put numbers on them like that! That is very strange. I will ask. The only thing I can think of is if we wee trying a different mix of gypsum, and the piece was marked.
Are you certain this is a real Windstone? The pad does look real.March 2, 2007 at 5:42 pm #546559That would be horrible. Not a real windstone. 🙁
March 2, 2007 at 5:45 pm #546560Melody, I’ve asked before if he was real, I know the sculpt is but unsure of the paint. He could be a repaint.
I just posted full body pics and detail here,

I’ve been hoping that you’d be able to give me a better idea … ?

I’ve been hoping that you’d be able to give me a better idea … ?He looks real to me! I’ll ask and see if anyone knows about the number. It has been a long time since we cast that guy, so it is likely that nobody will remember. We aren’t the most organised of companies.
Those little marks around the edge are strange, too. Usually the bottoms are sanded smooth.March 2, 2007 at 5:57 pm #546562Thank you Melody, I appreciate it 😀 Whatever he is, I really do like him, and got such a killer deal on him too, only $50 in Dec 2004.
March 2, 2007 at 6:21 pm #546563It does look real. The close-up pics make it look like the paint job was well done, so if it fake, it’s a good one. I hope you find out its real.
March 2, 2007 at 6:47 pm #546564DM mentioned that his had the numbers on them as well. He said it might be SS # of a previous owner.

No mine do not have numbers but I was thinking that some times people will put there SSN on things to prove they belong to them if stolen and recovered
March 3, 2007 at 8:57 am #546566Wow. How interesting! Im very cruious myself. I love the paint job on this guy, too.
March 3, 2007 at 3:09 pm #546567My brown Emperor does not even have a number like this and he is very old too. I hav never heard of or seen numbers like this before
March 3, 2007 at 6:37 pm #546568I showed John the pic of the numbers on the emperor, and he doesn’t remember having numbers like that on anything!
Jeff, the guy who knows everything around here, will be in on Monday, I’ll ask him.
I don’t think those numbers were added later, because the paint covers them, and they appear to of been put into the wet gypsum, not scratched in after it was commpletely set. Mysterious.
The casters do put markings on the bottoms, but they are always in a place that the pad will cover them!
I just looked at the picture of the emperor from the side, he has had some paint added to him, so it is possible that the numbers were scratched into the bottom and then painted over by the previous owner, who obviously was a good painter. It could be a ss number.
But they don’t look like they were scratched in, to me! They look like they were drawn into a wet material.March 3, 2007 at 7:46 pm #546569this one is weird
March 3, 2007 at 10:51 pm #546570Thanks for asking around Melody. He is a bit of an oddity, that’s for sure.
Not that it’s proof of anything, but there is a little notation taped to the felt pad, says emperor 1992. I know it doesn’t really mean anything but I’ll accept it as proof he’s an old boy 😛It probably is something mundane like a former owner’s SSN, but what if he was … a test paint for brown that was rejected, and accidentally shipped off to a dealer… ? Or, one of the painters just felt like doing something a little different that day…? Or, “I have hidden in the back of the Maltese Emperor” …LOL
