I was mostly twitchy on Drag0n’s behalf. (Heck, I actually woke up early so I could be certain I wouldn’t miss them. And good thing too, or I’d have missed the curled dragon.) If I’d missed the wolves, I wouldn’t have cried too much, I like other things better. But I was really happy to get one!
November 17, 2006 at 9:31 pm #509918A whole bunch of us – except the ones who aren’t particularly interested in winged wolves at the moment, like me. It’s just cool to see how fast they go.
And btw, welcome to the homepage of Windstones Anonymous, TFS.November 17, 2006 at 9:33 pm #509919tfsculptures wrote:phew, i got three myself, one of each except the bi-eyed, i saved those for all you folks! my gosh who else here is heart-racey after that? i have been waiting for that auction with every bit of me since the pics went up in the gallery! (breathes HUGE sigh of relief)
Hello! And who might you be? Welcome to the forum. Glad you got your wolves, and VERY NICE if you to leave the odd eyes to the addicts!
November 17, 2006 at 9:45 pm #509920thank you for the welcome, i have been watching the forums here for a while but have been a little too shy to be posting, but the windstone fever finally got the better of me!! i have noone else that gets the obession, so i needed someone to turn to!! what a hoot with everyone obsessing together- i love it!! i have an about me page on ebay and a myspace profile under tfsculptures of course. in regards to windstone auctions, none of you have to worry about me too much – i’m a cheapie so i won’t be bidding competition for the pricey ones, so y’all can relax. i’m just a bargain hunter/fixer upper, though i have been collecting windstones since, hmmm 1998? not too bad. i’ll have to put pics in the show your collection sometime.i love the pyos, though what fun!! the beauty of windstones on a budget!! i went bonkers buying tons of interference/metallic paints recently to pimp the dragons out with. woo woo! i got a cool one that shines purple in one light and gold in another for example—-> promises to be fun!!
November 17, 2006 at 9:48 pm #509921I went on a paint buying spree, too! What fun, though.

I need to… blasted Michael’s doesn’t carry interference paints. I need to go the more “professional” art store to get gauged on teh price for it. UGH!
Oh well… maybe I’ll check Joann’s to be sure…
Need more than my standard Interference blue (use it in Horse eyes…) need a green or red or something! 😆
November 17, 2006 at 10:01 pm #509923oh totally! and hey the stuff will last a long time providing you take good care of it, close it up tight etc. so i call it a “worth while investment” . he exception i have though is is “modern options” brand “sophisticated finishes” which use the real metal filings (ex. bronze, copper) in an acrylic base so you can make authentic patina-ed finishes useing their coodinating acids. really cool and weather proof, but the filings naturally atrophy in the liquid, discoloring/rusting so u have to throw it out after a couple years. cool stuff though, i’ve used it for years, and peeps who cast bronze for a living couldn’t tell the difference!! p.s. if anyone follows down to line to my website, it is YEARS old and the work is crap, but i haven’t had the help to get new pics uploaded and the site updated. i got a mac a bit ago and the site doesn’t work on it, so i’m in a bit of a pickle. i apologize in advance. lol.
super nice to finally start meeting all of you!
i am surprised that it looks like the hazel eyes look like they are going to sell out first before the bi eyes, after ALL that hype!!! lol! weird!!November 17, 2006 at 10:09 pm #509924Well, there are a few people who buy who aren’t on this forum, and a few people who aren’t particularly vocal on this forum. The hype over odd eyes was mostly one person anyhow. *grins*
November 17, 2006 at 10:23 pm #509925ok kids, her’s a slammin’ link for you if u are in the boondocks and need paint, or just in general …. http://www.pearlpaint.com pearl paint is the only way to shop for alot of stuff, i was a regular at their physical store in cambridge when i lived/went to school in boston, awesome awesome company!! .check out their golden interference paints- oodles of em and cheap . ooh i might get some myself now… uh oh! lol! i personsally consider michaels to be a criminal institution, their prices are sooooooooo high is awful. a GOOD, REAL art store will be reasonable, because they know their customers know how much the products are worth. another secret is if you have a college nearby that has a school of art in it, try to shop in their school store, they have good prices to be kind to the kids! 🙂 i go into providence and shop at the R.I.S.D. school store and save a bundle; the school sucks but their shop is great! lol! a jumbo tube of liquitex paint was 3.00~ there and $9-11 at michaels for example! try it where u are!! you’ll love pearl paint though go have fun and not get screwed by michaels!

TOTALLY agree with you there… and they don’t CARRY it all! They don’t have ANY good pastels. Whick irks the heck out of me… then the issue with the masking fluid… ::grumbles:: Matte Board… the list goes on.
We used ot have a store, Ben Franklin Crafts… they were AWESOME… sadly… Michael’s ran them into the ground… so now they are gone… and I’m still depressed over it…
tfsculptures wrote:a GOOD, REAL art store will be reasonable, because they know their customers know how much the products are worth.
I disagree here… the one… professional art store… that carries all of the odd papers… markers… and other art stuff that only REAL artists want (not the random people who shop at Michael’s…) STILL gauges you. EVERYTHING is even more expensive there… than at Michael’s… and Michael’s has coupons…
tfsculptures wrote:another secret is if you have a college nearby that has a school of art in it, try to shop in their school store, they have good prices to be kind to the kids! 🙂
Again… gotta disagree here… the ONE art store right outside out Art Department Building at the U of A… was WAY WAY overpriced. Sarnoff’s (the store I was refering to above) is cheeper than they were… Not to mention this dinky little college art store didn’t carry hardly ANYTHING useful… other than what the classes required you buy. Nothing cool… nothing fun to experiment with.
Honestly… I like DickBlick.com… and Art Supply Wherehouse better… Sadly you have to wait for it to be shipped to you… but they have it all… and for a decent price.
I’d just prefer to spend my more money locally… than have it shipped from an internet site…
Then again… maybe way out west… at least AZ… we just don’t have any decent art stores. 😛 That’s entirely possible… 😆
November 17, 2006 at 10:53 pm #509927ouch!! well, i wasn’t looking to put anything i said as law, simply that it worked for me and others i know and it was something folks could look into. i DO agree dick blick has a great site!! i go back and forth between them and pearl. its good if the have to drive a ways to get to your “local” (depending what you consider local, per your region, local for me in n.y. was 40 minutes) place and spend gas. i don’t recall ever seeing a school GOUGE their students, but maybe i didn’t try any tinies in my recent memory. in boston there were at least 4 art schools within walking distance of each other and each had extensive collections of all items, not just for the classes, in addition/competiton to all the art stores about. they could easily send the kids elsewhere with all the stores, and save themselves alot of trouble, but they stocked stuff anyway. i know that was an exceptional situation though, and i would assume that a small community college in a rural area would potentially stick it to you in their school store. when i lived in boodocks n.y. it was still the same though, still reasonable most places, but you have use your brain and shop around. Charette is an evil art store, super duper ultra high, plus u had to PAY to get a club card to get the items at the price all the other stores around sold them at, lol! my god! what a joke they are! so i do agree that there are so “real” art stores that can stick it to you severely! not trying to upset/mislead anyone here, just trying to help and spread some good luck.
November 17, 2006 at 11:00 pm #509928I think different schools often have different pricing policies. At least from what I’ve seen. The university I used to go to had horrible prices, everything was way too expensive.
But OSU here has quite reasonable prices for things, at least from what I’ve bought there so far.
Good art supplies are never really cheap though.
November 17, 2006 at 11:02 pm #509929p.s. i did want to post something interested parties could look into.. and i know it belongs elsewhere, but i’m lazy tonight, so its a link for the peacock mouse wizard for 29.95. weird!! http://www.aristocraticpet.com/4m6.html hope the link works, if not, go to the website, go to mouse themes/collectibles and then handcrafteds. the site looks recent and what a great price! i might be a blip on their end, i didn’t inquire as i wasn’t sure if one should just go and purchase one, or call ahead of time and talk to customer service.i didn’t want to speak verbally to someone and have em realize the mistake and correct it and miss out you know? just thought i’d spill the beans, if any of you wanted to look into it. 🙂

😆 Or it could jsut be my school… The U of A is primarily a science school… so that could be why…
