How is she doing now, Eaglefeather??
Well, I saw her a couple of days ago, and I am going to see her again tomorrow. When I saw her, she had just gotten her chest tube taken out (the one that drains blood) and so she had to be on her back which she didn’t like. She couldn’t breathe very well, so it was very hard for her to talk. She loves to talk and to give advice and such, so she really hated that. It was hard to see her out of breathe and struggling, but we were both staying positive, and I was even joking with her saying that she will go skipping with me when she is healed up! π
She is walking around a little bit, and she prefers sitting up as opposed to laying down, otherwise it hurts her back.
The nurses say that she is doing surprisingly well, and my grandma said that it is because everyone is praying for her! She LOVES to know that people are praying for her, so thank you (from my grandma) for doing just that! π
She has a while to go for recovery. Right now, her goal is to get off of oxygen before she is sent home. She has a heart pillow that she uses to help her cough, but people also sign it.
Also, thank you to those who have offered relaxation tips. I need to try some yoga, or some brisk exercise, but I will also try some deep breathing. We will see how it goes.March 7, 2009 at 4:49 pm #752688eaglefeather831 wrote:I need to try some yoga, or some brisk exercise, but I will also try some deep breathing. We will see how it goes.
Yoga and deep breathing go together “hand and hand”.
March 9, 2009 at 7:48 pm #752689Just wondering how your g’ma’s recovery is going? Hope it hasn’t been too difficult…

Ah yes! I have been so busy, I am sorry!

Grandma went home two days ago, and I was there with her for a good portion of the day. She was super frustrated about not going home sooner, but her pacemaker was firing incorrectly, so she had to stay an extra day. I had never seen her so frustrated, but it all got better because she left for home. She has a lovely living situation because she lives in an extension to my uncle’s house, and it is a very nice arrangement for all of them. I am personally shocked that grandma was walking around so freely. I asked her if she was in any pain, and she said “not really.” It hurts her to cough and sneeze, and any other thing like that.
I have been so busy, but I have been making the extra effort to see grandma! I even asked for my first day off of student teaching so I could be there for her surgery, and I was so glad I did! Family is more important anyway. KC was even there, and that meant the WORLD to her! KC works a lot, so she had been saying that she really misses him, so when he showed up, her eyes just lit up!
I will go to see her on Friday, but in the meantime, she is back in the habit of emailing funny emails! I am so happy to get those again because I really missed them when she was in the hospital.
She is a stubborn old bird because she will often do things on her own that she shouldn’t do , and I wish I was there all the time to do them for her! My uncle and his family definitely helps her, but sometimes she is at home by herself. If she wasn’t my grandma I’d lecture her, or something, but I know her and she will do what she pleases. lol I just hope she is careful!March 11, 2009 at 4:00 am #752691Oh goody! *heaves a sigh of relief* I’m glad she’s almost back to her old self. She certainly sounds like my grand’ma (who will soon be a great-great-grandmother!) There must be something special about that generation. I think, for my g’ma, it was living through WWII and having to be the bread winner of the family while my g’mpa was serving in the Navy. G’ma was a “Rosie the Riveter”. She still has pix of the planes she built hanging on the family room walls. It must’ve given these “super women” an extra sense of being able to conquer anything! Big Hugs!

That is so neat that your grandma built WWII planes!! My grandpa(her husband) was in the Navy, and he was a gunner on the planes. Maybe he manned a gun on a plane that your grandma built? That would be a neat coincidence if that was the case!! π
March 15, 2009 at 3:49 am #752693Oooo, wouldn’t that be neat? I wonder if there is any way to find out?

Oh, I don’t know- I will ask my grandma to see if she still has some of the memorabilia grandpa used to have. I will ask her what she might know! π
