That’s a definate can do Eagle! I’m glad I popped in and caught this thread. If it helps in any little way I worked in the cardiothoracic icu for years, where they did the heart surgeries and all of the post-op care…and I have to tell you, the patients did amazingly well! I’ve seen some people come in in really bad shape, and go home 4 days after surgery with a whole new lease on life! I’ll keep your Gramma in my thoughts, {{hugs}} to you!

Sun Dragon Koi #3February 26, 2009 at 12:09 am #752659Thank you so much everyone. It is really nice to hear some encouraging stories about how people do so well in these situations. Surprisingly, grandma seemed pretty calm about it when I talked to her about it, and she was saying that if it is her time to go it’s her time to go, and she’s been thinking about seeing grandpa and Jesus, and she is looking forward to that. (I know that might not be what everyone else here believes, but bear with me 😉 )
I asked for Monday off, and her surgery is scheduled for 7am, but she has to be at the hospital at 5am.
The doctors told her not to do anything, but she isn’t listening to them too much. She still does things-but they’re small things, like feeding her cats.
I think about her 10x more now, and I can’t help but worry if she has had a heart attack or not. 🙁February 26, 2009 at 5:21 pm #752660My prayers are with you and your grandma at this terrible time

March 2, 2009 at 11:11 am #752664Oh your not late in responding. 🙂
Surgery is today at 7:00am central time. I am getting ready t leave for the hospital now.
I had a dream last night that grandma died. She was laying in bed next to me, and we were falling asleep when I held her hand. She squeezed it a little bit, then she died. In my dream, I even went back to the spot where she died, and there was a head indent on the pillow, and I remember saying “Grandma was just here.”That is not the best dream to have right now. 🙁
More prayers today! She needs them!March 2, 2009 at 4:56 pm #752665Everything will be all right; I’m praying for the surgical staff as well as your gran’ma so that they will be able to give her the best care possible. You are also in my prayers so that you will be less anxious. {HUGS} Hang in there, darlin’; It’ll all be fine!

Well, The surgeons did two bypasses, as opposed to three or four. One artery was 100% blocked, so when the surgeons went in there, they saw the damage that was already done, so they didn’t see any benefits to fixing that one, but they bypassed the ones that were 80% and 70% clogged. They were going to (replace?) her aortic valve, but it was too small, so they left that alone. From what I understand, the reason why they left one of her arteries alone is because there weren’t enough good leg veins to use, so they got the two important ones. Many people were in the hospital waiting room, and it was a long day. Trindragonsmum, your prayers for my anxiety must’ve worked because I have been remaining very faithful, and less anxious, about her pulling though.
I saw grandma right before surgery, and I saw her afterwards. She didn’t look as bad as I thought because I expected her to look really deathly looking, but she wasn’t. 🙂 That made me feel better. She will be in the ICU for only tonight, and then she will be moved to a different room. I have been told that when she is moved out of the ICU that a family member should stay with her at all times because if she were to “flat line” then chances are that the nurses wouldn’t be able to get to her very quickly due to the fact that there is only one nurse per so many patients.Yeah, the stress has been really a lot. My husband and I had a heart-to-heart today, and he told me how much my personality is changing due to the stress. All of these things in my life have been hitting me hard-the fact that KC is gone all the time due to his job (I am grateful that he has a job though), the work and stress-load that student teaching brings, and the stress with my sister in the house, along with my grandma, finances, and I am stressed that my mom is having so many problems herself. Then little things, like trying to plan Chloe’s birthday party while having to worry about everything else, my camera breaking, money issues, yadda yadda yadda……So, after talking to him, I am hoping that I can find a way to reduce my stress level. Any ideas would be appreciated. 🙂
March 3, 2009 at 3:38 am #752671I am glad to hear that the surgery went well. I hope that the recovery progresses quickly and there are no complications. My best wishes to you.
As far as stress reducers go, if you can find the time for yoga, I would really recommend it. It does two things. It helps reduce stress, and you get a good physical workout which helps you health. Good physical health also helps you deal with stress. Some places have basic lessons for very little cost. I have a real problem dealing with stress and I’ve had some personal issues lately. I started yoga and it has really helped me.
