Concept drawings for the Crouching Griffin Chick. Melody posted these yesterday (September 25) on the “Windstone Editions” Facebook page.

Melody said, “These are some of the sketches that I referred to, to sculpt the crouching griffin chick.
I did these to figure out what griffin my chicks would look like . I based their faces on chicken, and peacock chicks,( I used both kinds as live models) not an eagle chick.
Most of my ‘working’ drawings are very sloppy, and not fit to show anyone, but this one looks ok after I cleaned it up a bit in photoshop.”

These aren’t clay but they COULD progress to the clay stage some day. 🙂

Drawing from Melody’s Blog, posted on March 12. Melody says, “Here’s some preliminary sketches of possible Gothic unicorn family members. Gothic unicorns are unusual because they aren’t based on horses like normal unicorns. I give them a goat-like, or llama-like face and body.”

In case someone isn’t following Melody’s Blog, posting some things here too.

Posted on March 20 – Melody says, “Here’s what I got so far. She is still in the rough stage, but I’m getting there.”

OMG, yes! YEES! I need more gothic unicorns, oh, pretty please!! The more chimeric nature of the unicorn is always forgotten in the modern day. They’re so unique, I need one — especially an aborable baby goat. Ooo, what if they looked incredibly fluffy, like big horn sheep, or had a lion’s mane? Hrmm.

Oh yah, and little beards, even if female. Female goats have em’ and unicorns look just so rad with a patch of goatee.

                *cough*

Photo from Melody’s deviantArt page – a Capricorn!

Melody says, “This is a piece from my short-lived stone wear ( I mean STONEWARE, gad, I KNOW how to spell that!)…ceramic period, before Windstone. This was the one piece that never sold, from a show I did in a friend’s gift shop.”

From the comments (several people said they would love to buy it) :

Comment – “how come this did not sell? it is so cute and pretty i wish i had a piece like this to decorate my library”
Melody’s reply – ” Maybe because it is weird looking… not everybody likes mashup animals.
But, the funny thing is , two years after the show ended, a lady returned to the store and wanted to buy it! She said she didn’t have the money at the time, and lived in a different state, but made a point to return to the shop to look for this capricorn! So it almost sold.
I decided I wanted to keep it.”

Comment – “I wonder how well this fellow would sell if s/he were updated to Windstone standards and released as part of the collection. Bet s/he would find more homes now than back then.”
Melody’s reply – “Hes got too many pointy things to make him out of gypsum. I am restricted to blobby creatures.”
