That color-shifting dragon has some interesting color combos. I’ve been looking for ideas on how to paint my keeper. π

Lots and LOTS of layers~ you open an image in photo shop, duplicate the base layer, tweek the coloring by a little, duplicate that layer, tweek coloring…and you keep doing that till you complete the spectrum. Then save as a Gif with the selection of ‘animate layers’ or something like that.

This keeper is based on a small dragon I painted a few years ago that is homed with Purplecat. You can see him here>> http://www.windstoneeditions.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=3836&hilit=fall+fern
Some ferns turn red/orange in fall, but with out the brown that a lot of leaves turn. This gives some lovely contrast between these colors. My goal was to depict this contrast on both the small dragon and the Keeper.I have more photos of it on the black back ground if people want to see those.

July 2, 2010 at 12:40 am #818466Lavender Mint
The name and coloring might seem to be a contradiction. Mint is green but this thing is neerly all purple! Well that is because the coloring is based on Mint flowers, not the leaves. It has some lighter green on him, like mint leaves, but the flowers of mint and spearmint are a very very lovely purple! They can range from a dark purple to almost white. I love it when our garden mint blooms, it just is so pretty to me.

I have been waiting to paint this on a Keeper for a while! Rainforest is a color I have enjoyed on manny different things, it was a coloring I originaly sketched out for a repaint by purplecat when she was still doing them, and him and Tropical Ocean pretty much pack all of my favorite colors and themes together: Ocean and Trees.July 2, 2010 at 12:52 am #818468Dragon Pairs: Rain Forest and Tropical Ocean
