Borealis… I have mixed feelings… I think considering his scheme/inspiration, he’s totally fitting, but personally I’d love him if there was more/brighter teal involved. Still, if I wasn’t waiting on that lap dragon and debating PYOs in my future, I’d probably place a bid.
Congratulations to whomever picked up that little koirin by the way. I decided not to compete in the end. I want something perfect to come up before I start throwing my money around for those prices. Just not sure what yet.
June 30, 2014 at 2:08 am #914906If that Borealis Oriental had a bit more of the individual scales painted, like the Emperor did, I’d be all over it! It has too much of the light color down the back for me. It kills the details I loved about the scheme.

So it looks like I will have two baby kirins coming to live with me which is ironic since I have been trying to bid on other ones for over a year with no luck. At first I wasn’t sure how I would pay for it but just happened to sell something on ebay yesterday to cover it. Now I have to figure out how I will pay for a grab bag colt when they come out. Maybe I will get lucky and sell something else. I may consider trading the koirin at some point for another special piece if someone loves it more than me but I actually fell for the face markings and eyes. It’s one of few more natural coloured pieces I have liked.
Looking for rainbow or pink & teal grab bags!

Is it common for people to just… bid if they just want to knock the price up on someone else? That seems a little… idk. I’m not sure how I feel about that.
I really waffled on whether not to bid; it was definitely a cute piece. I liked the colors and facial markings. But… After having been in a couple bidding wars that I lost already, I just didn’t want to get stressed out over a very small statue and either end up paying more than I felt it was worth OR heartbroken if I lost (again). So I was going to wait to see what the price did, and after it went up over 120 I figured there was just too good a chance the person(s) bidding for it really wanted it and I’d end up spending 150 or more, which I just feel like I can’t do when I want the lap in morpho and PYOs as well. You got it for a decent price, though, so if in the future you decide you want to sell it for something in a similar ballpark, I would be interested. I just… really wasn’t prepared to take that chance right now.
I’m gonna keep stalking the store for more natural and fantasy colored baby kirin, because my cavern couple DOES still need to adopt a baby or two. I’m sure one will turn up eventually that I absolutely cannot live without, and that’s when I’ll know it’s time to go all-in. >:)
June 30, 2014 at 10:04 am #914915Bah, double-post, sorry!
…But actually.
Drag0nfeathers, I feel the same way actually. The top of Borealis is just a little too washed out. If he was just a little more intense, and there was some more scale detailing, he’d be stunning. Also, I do wish there was a little more of the deep blue that we see along his neck line and a little less black.

I don’t think people usually bid to drive the price up. But sometimes, when a piece has not drawn as many bids as expected, I will take another look and think “Heck, I would pay X for that piece.” and make a bid after all. Occasionally that bid is enough. I have gotten a few “accidental Windstones” that way, so the other side is don’t bid unless you can afford to win the piece!

Yea, I want to like him… but he just looks sort of like he wasn’t finished

A good rule for anyone on any auction is to put a max bid in that represents how much the piece is worth to you at that time. If you get it for that or less, yay! If not, it wasn’t meant to be right then! π
June 30, 2014 at 10:05 pm #914946That was the koirin I was planning on bidding on, and missed getting past family and to the computer by a minute. >_< *grumble family first world problems* I'm sure there will be more koirins in the future. π

Okay, that makes way more sense. I probably just read Kim’s response wrong, but it had sounded to me like it was more a case of wanting to keep the value of the koirins high for the sake of high-priced things. Which, I mean, don’t get me wrong I definitely don’t want Windstone’s profit margins to suffer because people are getting good deals! But… just yeah.
@Kiya
I’ve tried using the ‘max bid’ thing with some success. Only when I was able to go insanely high. I want to try my skill at sniping. π I’ll probably lose though. Haha.@siberakh1
Pesky family. There are windstones to win!! But in all seriousness, I’m sure you’re right. Melody’s got to be aware of the demand for more baby kirins. We just have to be patient. LOL! I wish that happened to me more often! I usually end up getting sniped at the last 2 seconds or something and I get heart busted. On the other hand, I have NOT bid on a piece I really wanted intending to snipe at the end. Then, either I don’t get around to it or my computer freezes or something else on the website glitches and my bid doesn’t get placed one way or another. THEN I see a post about someone getting a secodn chance offer and I think, “if I have ONLY put a bid in before hand I may have gottena second chance” So I try to at least bid on most things I like now at least once. ^_^

Dreamscape, Orion, Poison Dart, Fireberry, Spangler + Tigerberry DragonsJune 30, 2014 at 11:36 pm #914961I’ve tried to stop getting heart broken about auctions I don’t win. If someone can snipe me at the last minute, then they had more to spend than I did. π
There was an auction a year or two ago that I was super sad I didn’t win. I looked at the piece today and thought, “huh, I have several things I love way more than that now!” So it’s just as well I didn’t get it. π
I also have a few things I spent WAAAAY too much on to get because I thought it was important and really regret now. So I’m trying to be better about spending a price I can live with and only on pieces I really love. π
July 1, 2014 at 12:22 am #914962I think it is easier to evaluate ebay pieces now that the store is functioning and new items are being added! It was really hard to resist pretty things back when ebay special pieces were (almost) the only new Windstones available. I definitely bid high and often in those days – trying to moderate the habit now. π
July 1, 2014 at 12:35 am #914964It’s really reassuring to hear other, more experienced users offering their stories about their experiences with the ebay auctions. I wonder if in general now that the store seems to be producing items more regularly if in general things won’t stabilize overall more. Not to say that OOAK or limited edition items aren’t worth some extra money, they truly are, but the greedy part of me that wants to have *many* lovelies instead of just a few would like that more.
In any case, I’m definitely going to have to exercise moderation, or at least be picky/choosy as there will always be more lovelies, and it’s nice to know I’m not the only one that feels like that’s not a terrible strategy from the sounds of it…

Ebay wasn’t my problem, alas – it was out of stock production items. LOL I don’t think I have any ebay pieces I actually regret buying. I’ve always been moderate there.
