Don’t feel too bad, I’m out $3200 because of internet fraud.
Oh, that’s terrible! Does your credit card or bank give you any hope of getting your money back?

People suck.I’ve done layaway for years in my store and if someone has money down on something, it’s taken completely away from the sales area and is not for sale to anyone else without first checking with whoever it was to belong to, even if that person is late on their payment.
Even things that are “available” all too often are actually sold out. Particularly when you absolutely need one (I’m not just thinking of Windstones here). Thinking “Oh, I can sell this now, and re-order another to get here before my layaway customer comes back” is asking for all kinds of trouble.
In my store I also allow people to put things on hold for a week with no deposit. I’ve had plenty of people abuse this, but enough people love it and take advantage of it that it’s a good business move. In that case, I leave the item behind the counter but visible. I often make sales by people specifically looking to see what other people have on hold and then asking me to get one for them too.
There can be no excuse for anyone taking a down-payment then selling something to someone else. Of course there is panic, greed, thoughtlessness, stupidity, callousness, forgetfulness, bad management, really horrible customer service… OK, there are lots of reasons; just no excuses…

Sometimes I wonder if customer service really exists anymore. I’ve worked in retail quite a bit, too, and I just can’t imagine punishing your customer for an employee’s error.
The one I was getting was going to be about $330, and that’s probably my limit.

I couldn’t agree more. In this case, I’m guessing it was all of the above. : P

So if one is found at around $330 would you want to get it or do you have some things working in the background??
I LOVE to try and call places to find retired Windstones. NOT when they are pieces I NEED for my collection, then it’s just frustrating, like when I had to find my Brown or Green Emperor’s or White and Emerald pieces. I did find them all though. I think the NASTY store I had to deal with last weekend had Peacock Lap in the glass case?? I can’t remember for sure but I’m 99% positive I saw her thereSeptember 18, 2007 at 1:36 am #617304That’s just rotten! Poor Choebe, what a way to come into the forum π But good customer service totally exists! Really! And welcome… π
Lyo, I would def check out Lamorte’s comment about the credit card company not holding you responsible.
Some people just suck π‘ But there are always others out there that even the balance.

Your store sounds like the store I work at, where we will let customers put items on hold for something like three days and it requires no down payment or deposit. There ARE some stores out there who do really nice things like that, I promise! LOL
September 18, 2007 at 5:15 pm #617306Yea, I will hold things for customers for a week or so depending what it is. Especialy if I know them. π

bank and credit card, no, the police, not really, there’s only a 1% chance of getting it back and even then I now have to pay the bank back because of liability.
I’m just glad they allowed me to take the loan to pay them back, otherwise I’d be officially on the streets.

Ouch, that had to hurt *hugs*
*more hugs* Obviously people don’t stop for one micro-millisecond to consider that what they are doing to make a quick buck is truly hurting real people out there. Kind of like choebe’s store manager in a way… it’s all about quick money in the pocket over honesty π
It took me so much willpower not to tell them how much they had destroyed my life, and how I wouldn’t get to see my boyfriend again for a long time because of them

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you, work and a cold have left me pretty worn out this past week. Anyway, I’m very happy to say that a peacock Old Warrior will be coming my way, courtesy of ddvm! I really appreciate your willingness to help me look, though. I can’t get over how nice you’ve all been. : )

Thanks for the welcome! And while I definitely didn’t make my first post here under the best circumstances, I’m now so glad I posted about it here. Now I will be getting my Old Warrior after all. π
