I think what would help is to release the official class photos (which generally are the spiral galaxy photo or the rectangular photos that make be in several frames – even up to 10) before the grab bag editions go on sale. So then those of us who were especially lured by several in the class ‘candids’ beforehand to market the edition could review the official class photos to see if any filtering of grab bags occurred that might change our minds before we purchase. Otherwise, I think it is understandable for us to assume that the sculpts shown in the class ‘candids’ will be in the grab bag batch. I don’t recall any class photos being available prior to the release though maybe it has happened.
An example of all this is the orange unicorn youngs that wowed so many. I think all of the orange youngs got filtered into ebays auctions, and many of us were disappointed when we found this out afterwards.
Yes I agree, it is fair for Windstone to send items to ebay. I think if the class photos are released before the grab bags are actually in the store, then it would take care of this issue as one can study the photos to see if the ones they are particularly interested in are there so it is also fair to the buyers.
February 10, 2015 at 3:19 pm #925428Can we please go back to the original intent of this thread, which is to show off the GB wolves?
This! If people want to continue the debate, how about making a new forum topic for it?
February 10, 2015 at 3:57 pm #925433My wolf & foxes arrived and I couldn’t be more excited! My wolf is gorgeous shades of browns with white face and I’m still trying to find an appropriate name for him. Thanks to Melody for creating such beautiful sculpts!

I don’t think Windstone needs to stop the preview photos because they build “buzz” & excitement about the upcoming releases. As long as they don’t include held back Ebay pieces in the class photos, I think that might solve the confusion issue.
After all, if we’ve seen preview photos & don’t see it in the class photo, then we know to expect it on Ebay, if we wish to bid for it there.
February 10, 2015 at 5:24 pm #925444… in the past when there were extras, they were either put back in the store or sold to people who missed the batch. I know because in the past when a couple friends and I had just missed a batch of grab bags, Susie was nice enough to email us and tell us she had a leftover one for us because we had asked. …
For some reason I find the idea that people were able to buy through Susie after the “Notify” button went up very disturbing. I know that Susie is great and does her best to make Windstone customers happy, but I would rather see a policy that any leftovers go to ebay or back into the store if there are enough … not be sold behind the scenes.
Grab Bags are a gamble by definition and I think it should be “Sorry … if you missed them in the store, you missed them”.
Etruscan, I agree with you on this issue. It has the potential to create lots of bad feelings if some people can miss the GB & still get the piece & others would be out of luck because they missed the GB sale. I like your idea of any leftovers going to ebay or back to the store restocking. JMHO
February 10, 2015 at 5:28 pm #925445February 10, 2015 at 5:30 pm #925446*jumping up and down for joy* My wolf came today!
I felt super guilty ordering him and was just thinking this morning that I’d probably sell him as soon as he gets here. I NEVER get lucky with grab bags-the really amazing ones go to other homes and I never have anything exciting to trade….
but luck finally smiled on me! I got my #1 pick!
She’s amazing, and I absolutely love her! I literally hopped around in circles, clutching her to my chest. My mom brought the box to me and watched me open it, she was laughing at me 😛
Thank you Melody for painting some like this and THANK YOU PAM for not swiping this one for ebay. I have a feeling she would have gone far far beyond $91 and I could have only dreamed of owning her.
Wolfen, Love that merle you got. Congratulations!
February 10, 2015 at 5:47 pm #925447Regarding the grab bags that Windstone lists on Ebay, I feel like if people had their hearts set on getting one specific grab bag out of a batch of +140, they were almost certainly going to be disappointed regardless of where that piece gets sold. Getting upset because you were deprived of the 1 in 140 chance of getting your number one favourite straight from the store seems just a tad unreasonable, but that’s just my opinion.
(snip)
That said, if they are in the class photo, they should be included as part of the store stock, period. Pulling pieces for Ebay after they have been shown in the class photo seems like the only reason to feel misled.
I don’t think it’s unreasonable to look at a class photo and gauge your chances at getting one of the ones that you love. It’s really up to each individual person on whether or not it’s worth the gamble – what’s “worth it” is almost certainly going to differ from person to person. I’m not sure if anyone said that they bought from this batch because there was ONE specific wolf they had their heart set on (maybe I’m wrong?), but I will say that there were a few that I would have really loved to see appear on my doorstep and the brindle was one of them. It wasn’t so much of “my heart is set on this piece!” as it was “ooh, I like these 10 in particular! I love the spotted guys, and that brindle is amazing!” I cannot ignore the fact that it was part of the reason why I bought from this batch.
I also agree that it’s not unreasonable for some pieces to appear on ebay – but I don’t think it’s unreasonable for people who look on Facebook and see photos of wolves indicated as part of the upcoming Grab Bag Batch to assume that all of those wolves are going to be part of the batch. Though people who frequent the forums may be informed about the possibilities of pieces not making it to the batch, there are other websites that Windstone advertises on – and Facebook is one of them. It’s not unreasonable to assume that not everyone comes to the website, and not everyone is aware of the inter workings of Windstone behind the scenes.
ALL I am suggesting is that they are more sensitive to what they indicate is going to be in the batch, or at the very least – inform people when they put up each picture that it’s NOT a guarantee, so that there are no misunderstandings.
Frankly, putting an item on eBay gives more people the chance to see it and have the chance to purchase it. The thought that this is somehow unfair boggles my mind. Equally, with a batch size of 150, how can anyone think that just because they have fallen in love with a particular item that they will get it? ?
How is having every grab bag from the store photo included not as equally fair?
Regarding your second comment – I don’t think that anyone thinks they will get one particular piece from a grab bag batch, but it’s most definitely a weighing reason why people might purchase from a batch. And getting your #1 favorite is not out of reach – it has happened to several people before (myself included), and even on page two of this thread!I think if the class photos are released before the grab bags are actually in the store, then it would take care of this issue as one can study the photos to see if the ones they are particularly interested in are there so it is also fair to the buyers.
Easiest solution to me is that the preview photos ought to be stopped and the only photo with a batch is the store photo. Then it truly is a grab bag.
Yes – to either suggestion!
And I just want to make clear – I am not at all against Windstone putting some of their pieces on ebay – I just think they should not indicate that those pieces are going to be in the batch of grab bags and then take them out before they go into the store. I think this debate has strayed a little (my own included), and this was the core issue that really bothered me. Again – NOT against ebaying grab bag pieces. But not happy that they are, for all intents and purposes, advertised as being in the batch and then cherry picked out of it.
(EDIT: Etruscan, you just hit 2000 posts!! )

I agree. If some people don’t want to get “teased”, then they just don’t have to look at the preview photos. The reason Melody posted them to begin with was because there were a significant amount of forum members begging for them each time she mentioned working on a new grab bag batch. A few dissented posts shouldn’t be mistaken for the general opinion of a large buying audience, so I hope they don’t stop.
February 10, 2015 at 7:03 pm #925453A few dissented posts shouldn’t be mistaken for the general opinion of a large buying audience
This is starting to take on a belittling tone and it’s a little upsetting. The fact of the matter is that NO ONE knows the “general opinion” of the large buying audience, and to infer that your opinion is the opinion of the majority isn’t right either :/
We are just expressing opinions, and I don’t see why the discussion should take on an air or “right” or “wrong”. Windstone will decide to do what they decide to do. That doesn’t mean people shouldn’t express their views within reason.
