Thanks! I took a chance using AD4 Type eyes with White Banding. The historical portraits of both Chinese, and Japanese Foos had more Human like eyes. So, Yes I decided to make one like that.
When I googled the title, I saw that some real life dogs are thought of as a “Foo type dog” by some Asian cultures. Breeds like the Keeshound, Akita, Chow,Chow, etc. I saw a coat color called “Shaded Silver” Which the fur has a tan, gray, or silver base color, with either very dark brown, or black tips and guard hairs. SO that is the general inspiration for this particular “Foop” ^_^September 16, 2012 at 8:11 am #886468Wow, sweet job with the research too Dreaming Tree! 😀

September 18, 2012 at 2:45 am #886513These are gorgeous DT, some really good ideas!
Price them on how long they take you to paint, definately. At that price (including shipping!!) if they are taking more 1.5 to 2 hours you could go up a notch or two =)

Well, if I included dry time between layers, the time can be about 4 hours. If I exclude paint dry time, maybe 2 hours max. The thing is…I paint them in succession; usually 2-3 at a time; So it is really tough to estimate.
When I paint them, I will do a section, then move onto another project (usually working on eyes for clients), Then come back to do a bit more paint.
A typical Studio day includes me doing three to five things at a time for the duration of my work day. (around 7-10 hours):
I start with some prep of castings, then break from that to pack incoming purchases, return to cutting out the eyes and mixing resin, get them cast up, while the castings are curing, I will go to paint the FooPs, finish a round, move to a bit of sculpting, then take a lunch or dinner break (depending on time of day), then I remove cured casts from molds, inspect them for quality, then go back to FooPs, again.
Each day alternates from that above to a day of Possible Listing of more items on Etsy, Dusty grinding, and polishing of resin eyes, to weighing, packed purchases, and printing the shipping labels, and lastly, returning to the finished eyes, and sealing them with the clear coat spray, to dry overnight.
Anyways (sorry about boring you all with my workdays)….I would think that it would feel weird just to focus on just painting 1 Foo at a time to see how much actual time it takes….But, I probably should. :/
Maybe I may have to raise the prices a little…But I do not want to raise them too much, because then fewer people would buy, and right now funds are greatly needed…
September 20, 2012 at 4:46 pm #886577BTW…all present finished foos are sold. I will be working on two additional ones (not including the swap foo).
September 20, 2012 at 5:01 pm #886578Okies…I just ordered 1 regular FooP with Lavender eyes, and 1 Black rescue FooP with Yellow eyes. Who wants those glass eyes? You Know me…I don’t use them, and will send them to whoever wants them for free. All you need to do is PM me with your address, and I will send them out when the FooPs arrive.
I also have all the glass eyes that my other PYOS came with as well (Don’t want-or use). I will probably list them later on in the classifieds section here on the forums.
