Melody, it seems like there are a lot of ferret-lovers on this forum. I was just wondering if you’ve ever thought about doing a ferret sculpt of any kind? It may be a good idea. πŸ˜‰

I never did one for production because other companies had done them already, and we don’t tend to do “normal” animals very often. I do have one I did, somewhere, but it is very rough and I have no idea where it is! I did it when I was sculpting the Oriental dragons, they were based on ferrets.

I knew there was a reason I loved the orientals!

However, I’m not sure I would call ferrets “normal” πŸ˜‰ I had one ferret who stole my wireless mouse off the computer desk and hid it in a box. Snitch figured out how to hit it to get the light to go off! I walked into a dark room and there was this intermittent red glow coming from a box 😯 Then I heard the scrabbling of little ferret feet and it all made sense.

My ferret Daphne stole brushes, any kind of brush, if it had bristles, it was hers. She’d stash them under the dresser. Unfortunately she passed away earlier this year, old age.

Since then, we adopted two other ferrets, and expanded our ferret total to three.

Ferrets are great, we plan to show ours in July.

One of my ferrets steals chocolate and hides it… and one or the other ones steals rubber things, like my rubber duckies…

KyrinOne of the reasons I want to move to Oregon is so that I am able to own a ferret! They aren’t legal in CA (though many people have them…shhh) Oh, and gerbils! They aren’t legal here either. I love gerbils… and hedgehogs and giant rats…just about everything. This is a problem.
                  Where do you show them???

Do you know there was a ferret magazine would that would mail the magazine to CA in a plain brown wrapper like it was porn? And I know a veterinary endocrinologist from CA who says he sees a ton of ferrets in CA. Everybody comes in with some story “Oh, it’s my cousin’s ferret and he’s just visiting…” He tells them he’s not in the habit of ratting out the owners.

I understand why Hawaii doesn’t allow ferrets after the mongoose fiasco but CA makes NO sense. HI at least is an island – they won’t be able to swim there. CA is worried about them colonizing it – but, hey, there are ferrets in all the surrounding states, most ferrets are sold neutered and many ferrets are very picky about what they eat so they can’t survive on their own.

Don’t even get me started on New York City and ferrets. πŸ˜†

That is foolish since it is nearly impossible to get an unaltered ferret since they do that when they de-scent them. They are anoter animal that pet shops should not be allowed to sell, way to many people buy them not knowing how much care they need, and they end up abandoned so fast and often.

This is the sad, sad truth for many animals. Increasingly we are in the ‘throw away’ age, where a disturbingly large percentage of the population simply discards that which they do not want for the next thing, and this seems to apply to pets as well πŸ™

I used to have 2 ferrets, many years ago. They were so funny and so different. My male, Buster was really relaxed and sweet and huge! My female, Chloe, was hyper, stole my birkenstocks ALL the time and hated me.

sadly, we lost Buster when he was 3 after having adrenal tumor surgery. Then we lost Chloe when she was 8 to adrenal tumors. We had her put to sleep, she was an aweful mess at the end, poor thing! Tho the vet said she had never seen an 8 year old ferret!

We enjoyed them as pets. But due to the fact that most of the ferrets on the east coast at that time came from a certain ‘farm’ and had huge health issues due to poor breeding, we didnt get anymore.
