Eskar is lovely, and Copper Tiger is too! Don’t know how I missed this thread before.

Thank you guys! πŸ˜€ I’m working on an orange tabby dragon next. (It’s a wedding present – should be posted up here in a week or two!)

At last I have a WIP of ‘the wedding dragon’ to show you guys; this is from today’s progress. I did the base colours and blending about a month ago, but never snapped a photo and then never got around to doing any more work on it until now due to my sheer powers of procrastination (plus a lot of real life stuff happened.) This one is going to receive some pretty red interference and probably some sort of brown antiquing. After this I’m going to be painting up a winged wolf like one of my characters (specifically this one -> http://falcolf.deviantart.com/art/Kayli-Calmspring-2014-451248027 ) and she will have custom hand painted eyes which I will be painting myself. (I found a taxidermy tutorial telling me exactly how to do it with hopefully very archival results.) Should look pretty awesome – I hope! Anyway, here’s the dragon; he’s getting blue eyes because my cousin (who is the one getting married) and her fiance’s favourite colours are orange and blue. Plus they have orange tabby cats.

Thus, a blue-eyed orange tabby dragon! (I don’t know, they gave me very few ideas to work on, all I knew was that it was a legit excuse to paint a Windstone and you can’t argue with that. I tried out a bunch of schemes on photoshop and this was the only one that really worked for me.)

Sorry for the terrible cellphone photo!

After the winged wolf I’m probably going to paint a unicorn, ‘cus my best friend in Texas went and spoiled me rotten with all the stuff she gave me for my birthday/Christmas, so I must get revenge with something extravagant. (Well, it seems extravagant to me!!)

And then I REALLY want to paint a kitsune. Plans. πŸ™‚

Ooo, I like the markings on the wings. Those soft marmalade tabby/tiger markings are always so pretty!

Thanks guys! He’s done now, I just have to take nice photos but in the meantime, here’s some WIP shots of the winged wolf which I started this past Monday. I’ve been dreaming of doing this one ever since I first heard of PYOs and saw the winged wolves – though falcolf* anatomy now differs quite a lot from canines such as wolves (though they still have that distinct canine-like cast to them) I can’t resist using a winged wolf to portray my falcolf goddess character Kayli Calmspring. Here’s where I am right now and I am hoping to get this done this week.

For Kayli, none of the default eye colours available on the winged wolves were going to work, all of them being completely the wrong colour, so I spent several months trying to contact various places to commission her eyes without any success whatsoever. Frustrated, I looked into seeing if I could paint her eyes myself and found a taxidermy tutorial detailing the very process using flint eye blanks. If you’re curious, you can read about exactly how I did it here. http://rosannapbrost.tumblr.com/post/97636332141/progress-on-the-winged-wolf-that-is-to-be-painted

Looking snazzy! I’m actually extremely pleased with these and I can’t wait to see them in action with her final paint job. (To which we are not yet there.) I think her eyes came out pretty and almost whimsical, not just turquoise but maybe a bit mint julip in colouration? They’re lovely anyway. They feature blue-green interference for that special, super shiny predatory gleam that you see on animals like cats! (Falcolfs of course must have beautiful, cat-like eyes… though their pupils do not slit like cats.)

Here’s my progress from last night. I think she’s looking a bit like a shiba inu at the moment which I find hilarious but that will soon change once I add her black points and stripe pattern markings (I fear her facial markings – aaaaah!) I’ll hopefully be starting those today and I am hoping to have her completely finished by the end of the week. (I’m impatient to see those eyes in action!)

Painting her eyes was super fun – I’m seriously tempted to do more custom eyes for my PYOs in the future though obviously Kayli’s haven’t been ‘field tested.’ I am confident however that they are going to last. I hope you guys like her progress so far! πŸ˜€

*Falcolfs are a species which I created which is intrinsic to the novel series that I am working on. You can see tons of concept art of them in my deviantART gallery on which I use the same username as here. Despite looking doggish they are actually more cat-like in their body anatomy (loooong fluffy tails and super flexible lanky bodies) and they’ve got some reptillian sort of elements too. They are sentient and can speak – it is said in the stories that the only thing limiting them from world domination is their lack of thumbs but they can otherwise read, do figures and do pretty much anything else a human can do (that doesn’t require prehensile hands) just fine! They’re also a lot more complicated anatomically than this very brief summery of them. Anyway, super happy to finally paint one on the PYO winged wolf sculpt!

Ohhhhh I’m so Happy that you’ve finally been able to start Kayli! You did an amazing job on her eyes – especially since they are so small!

Can’t wait to see how she turns out! πŸ˜€

Well, I realized that I have been very bad about posting to this thread! I’ve actually finished four PYOs since the last time I posted here, counting the ones which were just WIPs last time.

Here’s Flame Tabby #1, also known as ‘the wedding dragon’ – his new owners loved him so much that they’ve commissioned me to paint him a buddy! So, I’ll be working on that once I’m done my current workload, which includes a postcard trade that I really need to finish ASAP (sorry for the wait!!), a Christmas card design and a foop which is a Christmas present. All three of these are priorities right now, ack! I’m expecting to have Flame Tabby #1’s friend done sometime in February.

You can’t really see it in these photos, but Flame Tabby #1 has some nice red interference paint on him. πŸ™‚

Next is the PYO Winged Wolf that I painted up like my falcolf character, Kayli Calmspring. She’s my favourite thing in my collection now and something that I dreamed about doing for ages (thank you for making her possible Ela-Hara!) I custom painted her eyes and she’s the first PYO that I didn’t antique because I was happy with her enough without it, plus I remembered from the first winged wolf that I did that this sculpt doesn’t really take antique all that well anyway. I discovered during the course of painting her that the feathers on this sculpt are not the same on both wings.

I feel happy every time I look at her – she’s also become my avatar here as you’ve probably guessed.

And here’s the first of three foo pups that I’m giving away as Christmas presents this year. This one is for my best friend who lives down in Texas and it’s inspired by one of her characters, as well as her favourite equine colour scheme. Hopefully she likes this silly thing! Going into this, I thought foops were kind of ridiculous – then I actually got my hands on these guys and found them not only ridiculous but adorable as well as highly addictive – I want MORE! I could paint a whole army of these little beasties haha!

Siberian Shepherd #1 – colour scheme name is a private reference with my friend. πŸ™‚ I’m hoping that this little one will succeed at his mission in life, which shall be to cheer her up and smile at her derpily whenever she happens to look at him while she’s stressing over enormous stressful university projects.

You guys are getting to see the foops first, before anyone else because I can’t post them on my blog or deviantART until after Christmas. πŸ˜€ Hopefully this week I can get all the photos of the second finished foop composited so that I can show it to you guys too. πŸ™‚

Thank you guys! πŸ˜€ It took me a while to get Kayli’s colour right to match my vision of her and I had to adapt some of her body markings to the sculpt. Luckily her particular subspecies of falcolf (she’s a falcolf, which is a species I created, not a real animal) has very simple body markings generally. The coat pattern is called ‘ribbing’ because of the way the stripes hang down straight like ribs. Falcolfs actually have fairly different anatomy from wolves (their bodies are more cat-like and they have much longer tails – plus a whack of other stuff including different dentation and noses) but I think it translated well. πŸ™‚
