As an aside – how can they not have Peter Jackson direct The Hobbit???!!!! I was horrified when I saw that they were looking for another director. Although it seems a lot of people had the exact same reaction so there may be hope.
What? What!? They’re making The Hobbit???? Oh my gosh! I have not been a proper fantard! But Peter Jackson isn’t going to direct it…?
…

We have a thread on Temeraire as well! 😀

December 22, 2006 at 12:24 am #517772Peter Jackson might stsill be going to direct it.
See, here’s the story (as I heard it.) Peter Jackson got paid a fair bit for the LOTR movies. But his contract specified he was supposed to get a chunk of the royalties as well, and he hsn’t gotten it yet.
So when New Line, who had leased the rights to The Hobbit, came to him about directing it, he said, in essence, “I’m not doing new work for you guys until you pay me what you already owe me for what I’ve done.” And they said, “Forget that, we’ll just get somebody else to do it!”
But apparently New Line no longer owns The Hobbit, MGM has gotten the rights to it, and are considering trying to get Jackson to direct it after all.
December 22, 2006 at 12:28 am #517773very KEWL I’d LOVE to see it on the big screen

Me too!
While hiding somewhere in my head I'm on the lookout for white oriental dragons! Please let me know if you know of any available. Thank you!
December 22, 2006 at 12:48 am #517775Ahh the Hobbit would be so cool. To see Smog on the big screen! I really hope P. Jackson directs it, a director can make the whole feel of the movie. ANd make or break it. look what happend to Harry Potter 1st, & 2nd where good 3rd sucked (other than the hippogryph) and 4th was great (loved the dragon). The 3rd had a total differnt director, & he kept wanting to add & change things good thing J.K. was there to say no on most of it. I hope the 5th one has the same director as the 1st, 2nd, & 3rd. And in the Hobbit I hope they can get the same actor that played Bilbo in LOTR to come back.

Man…I just HAAAATE the new Dumbledore they got…it just taints the whole bloody movie for me…not that 3 wasn’t just bad on it’s own, as you said. But the new Dumbldore pretty much ruined the 4th one for me. He’s a fine actor, I’m sure, but he can NOT do Dumbledore at ALL. Grr. At this rate, I won’t be sad at all at the end of the 6th movie…I’m going to bring my pompoms and root for Snape! 😉 (though I might be biased…I luuuuvs me some Snape)

No, I haven’t! I listened to the first long ago, you know that already! I just downloaded the second and third yesterday. I’ll listen to them when I’m done with Inkspell.

Yea I’m not a big fan of the new Dumbledpre but at least they didn’t just replace that actor for no reason like they do with some movies. The original Dumbledore was signed on for all the movies until he pasted away & then they had to hurry up & pick someone to replace him so they could start the next movie.

Now, I thought HP:3 the movie wasn’t THAT bad – it wasn’t GOOD, but I wouldn’t say it sucked.
HP:4, though… if I were JKR I’d be asking for a refund of rights to it. They BUTCHERED the book and made a lot of it totally nonsensical. Not to mention that Dumbledore would NEVER have shouted at or shaken Harry at that part in book canon – he was still very soft-spoken and calm. The new actor just doesn’t do it as well as Richard Harris did.
I am sort of cowering internally at the thought of film HP:5 … because they did so many BAD things in the fourth one, left so much out, that I don’t know how they will, for example, do the “I Will Not Tell Lies” part … because there weren’t any “Harry Potter is just an attention seeking liar” articles written by Rita Skeeter in movie Four.
December 22, 2006 at 10:44 pm #517780I had figured the director was responsible for Dumbledore in 5 – the actor portrayed him much differently in 4 so I thought the director must have had “a different vision”. I was pretty appalled at the portrayel – didn’t act like Dumbledore at all. That said I thought what’s his name was great as Lord Voldemort.
They just announced the title of Book 7 – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows! And I heard a rumor (completely unconfirmed that it is coming out July 7th – the 7th book on 7/7/07!) But that may have been made up by rapid fans such as myself.

Really! Wow! So if that rumour is correct, then next July will be NUTTY so far as Harry Potter goes, because that’s when the 5th movie is supposed to come out, right? Dang…

I hope that happens! I doubt any other director could do as amazing a job on it as Jackson would. And for me at least, the LOTR movies have defined the image and feel of Middle Earth — it would seem very strange if that changed.December 23, 2006 at 5:57 am #517783Definitely! I’m so hoping Jackson directs the Hobbit. I can’t wait to see Smaug or the forest full of spiders!
December 23, 2006 at 7:30 am #517784I was so hoping that the Hobbit was finaly going to get done to totally complete the set of movies so this is very good news for me
