The seller seems to have decent feedback over a long period of time.

I know of one otherwise coherent individual that mistook a house cat for a Mountain Lion, spoke with another who mistook a coyote for a hyena, and read of another who thought a common turkey vulture was a giant dangerous beast. It’s entirely possible that the seller ‘puffed up’ the dimensions of the dragon in a similar fashion, and pulled out some online pictures to post on the auction without catching the pose difference. It doesn’t excuse it whatsoever, but it’s possible.

But whether fraud or simple sheer density, the course seems to be the same. Weight seems like an excellent tactic. It may also be good to send them two pictures, one of a male, one of an Emperor from exactly the same angle. If it’s simply an honest (dumb) mistake, it just might get it through his/her head. 🙄

      Good luck.

Oh wow, insisting on mistaking an emp for a male? It would be nice if that were an honest mistake but the more the seller insists the less it seems likely… I hope you can bring them round with a couple comparison photos. Good luck!

Latest update is that the Post Office scanned the shipping label on the box, and the shipping weight was 8 pounds. Just a bit light for an Emperor. They were able to print out the shipping info for me, so from there it should be a simple matter. Just need to hear from the Paypal Arbitrator so I can give them the information and the links to Windstone for comparison and it should be settled.

The post office definately scanned and weighted a male. At a normal 7.25lbs with packing should be about 8lbs, whereas the emp is 14lbs. You should have a pretty clear cut case to present to Paypal. The seller can’t keep claiming it was an emp when all the facts are against them.
You caught them alright, hook, line, & sinker. Now Paypal just needs to reel them in. 😆
Hope everything works out well. 😀

Everything’s definitely in favor of your side of the story. I hope the seller realizes that as well.

Replying late on this one, but good luck and let us know how it turns out, okay?

        Windstone collector in remission. 😉

8 lbs… thats a male dragon and NOT an emperor… those weigh 14 lbs!

I hope that all goes well for you in this matter!

          Keep us informed!!!

Shipping an Emperor dragon via Priority Mail would cost a small fortune. Not just in weight, but those added fees they charge for oversized boxes.

What a stinker that seller is. 😡 I really hope this gets resolved in your favor. Sounds like you have all your ducks in a row though, so I’m sure it will be okay.

Actually, the two just about match – a carton big enough to double box an emperor would cost as much to ship empty as it would if it actually had an Emperor in it, so you can’t deduce the weight of the box from the amount of postage. However, the weight is included in the shipping label unless you use stamps. In this particular case it’s clear from the shipping label that the wrong item was enclosed. It’s just a matter of laying the evidence before PayPal and getting them to acknowledge it.

Oh, I thought the oversized dimension fees were tacked on on top of the regular shipping cost for the weight. I just automatically assumed this, since it is the post office of course. They’re expensive enough as it is… as is everything else nowadays. I guess I just didn’t understand it correctly. I don’t ship a lot of large pacakages either.
I learned something new! Thanks, Dave.

When I USPS, they weight it and then tack on a size fee. UPS not so much but we talking about the United States Post Office right?

They both use the same idea, but it’s REALLY noticeable with UPS if you are shipping anything by air.

There is a “dimensional weight”, which is basically where you take the package volume in cubic whatsits, multiply that number by a multiplier, and pretend the resulting figure is a weight. The cost of shipping is based on the larger of the two weights – actual or “dimensional”. Which multiplier you need depends on what units of measurement you are using to express length and what unit of weight you want the results to be equivalent to.

A Next Day Air package to New York from Texas, weighing 1lb and being 6″ wide, 6″ long, and 4″ high might cost $42.00, whereas a 1lb package that is 6″ by 6″ by 6″ would cost $47.00, and one that is 12″ by 12″ by 12″ would cost $76.00. On the other hand, a 9lb package would cost $76.00 at all three of these sizes.

Now you can see why the only UPS option on our website is “Ground”. Our catalog knows the weights of everything I sell, but not the sizes, so when it asks the UPS web site how much it costs to ship something, the UPS website assumes I’m shipping a package of zero size and quotes that value to my customer. On UPS Ground I can ship a pretty big box before the “dimensional weight” becomes a problem, but on Air shipments I can’t double box anything and have the package come out under 6″ on a side. Even a small item likely needs a cubic foot of package, so I’d end up having to pay the extra $34.00 shipping myself, and I can’t afford that.

Interesting, Thanks for sharing. I don’t ship much. 🙂
