The Veligent – page 98

I wanted to weedwack the yard this weekend, so instead of making an excuse for not doing a page, I did a fairly simple page.
I always feel guilty when there isn’t much content.
Watch out for the guard, though.
Ok I changed “yike” to “yikes” And added scatterbats in the upper right corner. Forgot them.

Don’t feel guilty…I sure wasn’t expecting anything on Memorial Day!

I think it should be ‘yikes,’ though. 🙂

Hmm, you are right, “yike” isn’t the right word, from what I can find. I always used that expression to mean “Oh boy, I’m in deeper doo-doo than I thought”.
“yikes” isn’t the right word either, that means a sudden shock, not a feeling of dread.

    Anybody have a better word?

    Does “Ulp” work?

I was going to use “gulp” , but I did that a page ago… I like yike.

Doesn’t anybody else say “yike” when you are walking along barefoot, say, and just miss stepping on dead vole covered in yellow jackets? -Or you find a queen yellow jacket sleeping in your bed?
    I say “yike” -very softly.

This page advances the story a lot even if there isn’t much text. I like it. The picture of Kade creeping toward the entrance definitely is worth a few hundred words – maybe even the full thousand. 🙂

The content is just hiding along with that guard. (I’m so worried he’ll step on something sharp with his bare feet!)

Ah, but low content that conveys so much meaning is the best of comics/graphic novels! It does move the story forward 🙂

And the right word for this situation is certainly “yikes”. “Oh boy” might work, but I like yikes.

Agreed with previous comments. Week to week, sure I like lots of plot advancement. But when it’s in book form when I can turn pages when I please, lavish illustrations like this will be a feast for the eyes and very, very, enjoyable.

Besides, it sets the mood and stage nicely. (and goodness, Ayonah’s fur looks so huggable!)

I always say “yeep” in situations like that. 🙂

Yikes (and other suitable exclamations)! I didn’t even SEE the guard in the earlier version – I found him while looking for the scatterbats. I hope Kade is more aware than I was!

I would personally say, “Oh, crap”. But I guess that isn’t really child friendly.
