This is just a rant, but I’m dwelling on this more then the owner and it’s pissing me off more and more I think about it….

So yea… my coworker, the girl I gave design up to, has a lot of animals like me. So on occassion, like all fur moms, we get into talking about them once in a while. I know I am not the messiah of pet ownership, but I really want to belt her in the face right now.

She has a cat named Mow … pronounced Mowh… kind of like MEOW without the “E”. So Mow got run over by a car apparently which is horrible. I came into work and my manager said she was talking about it on Facebook so she clued me in before hand. My coworker tends to be really dramatic and can’t handle much in life so I expected her to be a wreck when she came in to work. She’s one of those people who has a headache and get’s catscanned to see if it’s a tumor. You know the type. Nothing wrong with it, but that “type” of personality you know?

So.. I never let me cat’s outdoors for this exact reason. I know lots of people do and that’s fine, but you gotta be prepared for something bad to happen if you do. In rural areas and stuff like that, I understand it more, but we live in a congested city. If you do not have a street smart animal or a really high eclosed fence, chances are excellent they won’t survive the city roads. Anyway… so she’s telling me this awful story when she gets into work…about how when she got home from work yesterday and her neighbor was outside motioning for her to come over to her. My coworker had her daughter with her so the neighbor didn’t want to be too obvious to get the little girls attention too. So the neighbor tells my coworker, she thinks her cat got hit by a car and it hiding under a tree in her yard so to please come and check to see if it’s her cat. Indeed, it is her cat. She tells me that cat was alive, panting, and waving it’s arms frantically…reaching for nothing as if she was hallucinating, but there was no blood. So yea.. what would YOU normally do? I’m like, “Sounds like the had internal or bad head injuries, did you bring her to the vet?” She says to me KNOWING I love animals “Well, it was just Mow and honestly, the people that hit her probably just did me a favor anyway…cause she pukes all the time and her hairballs are annoying” …
WTF! … so she continues.. “as she was lying there I realized after a few minutes I was crying and I thought Oh no, my poor kitty.” She said she scooped her up and (her words) “So then as I pick her up, the fu*king cat pees on me!” I’m thinking well YAH! Your cat is DYING! OF COURSE she’s going to probably be having a hard time controling herself! So she put the cat in a box because she was covered in urine and went to change. She then said something I can’t wrap my head around. “So I start thinking more about it as I’m changing and I start crying these crocadile tears and I don’t know why. I mean, whatever… the cat was a pain, but I was still sad about it. So I went back outside and pet her until she eventually died on her own”…. so first I’m wondering if she knows what the term “crocadile tears” means in my head and I ask “How long was the cat alive for before she died?” So she’s like “Oh I don’t know, quite a while…but I felt bad just leaving her alone to die so I stayed with her” So I’m speechless at this point… I want to ask why… or say what the hell is wrong with you…but I’m at work and she’s ridiculously sensitive and her mood can change on the drop of a hat and next thing I know I’d be in the office or something if I said the wrong thing. I was expecting an awful store I didn’t want to hear, but I was NOT expecting a heartless just sat and watched my cat die slowly and didn’t really care story. So I’m thinking in my head (but I held my tounge) WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU!?! I asked, “Was the cat in pain do you think?” So she’s like “Oh yea, most definately, I could tell that at least” OMG! Every word out of her mouth is worse then the last! SO now I’m getting a little visually mad at this point, so I’m like. “If you know the cat was going to die, why didn’t you al least take her to get put down so she didn’t suffer so badly?” …. you wanna know what she said.. no, I don’t know if you do? Seriously…. she had reservations at Outback Steakhouse for dinner and didn’t have time to deal with all that drama.

I wanna just slap her in the face. I just stopped talking and turned back to my desk. I didn’t speak to her he rest of the day and she can’t figure out why… she asked me a few hours later “Are you mad at me for some reason? Why are you so quiet suddenly?”

… Are you kidding me? I feel more sympathy for her cat then she does and I only met it like once for 2 minutes when I had to drop some stuff my her house once. I feel so sorry for her other animals. I just couldn’t believe she said all that… and get this. She randomly says after like 15 minutes of silence after the story “How much do you think it is to have a dead cat stuffed?”
      🙄

What a freakin moron. If it makes you feel any better, Drag0n, the cat was most likely in shock and not feeling much at that point, but you’re right… your coworker is a moron and you are better off not speaking to her. Idiocy may be spread thru close contact with an infected individual.

I probably would have been fired. I woulda ripped her a new ass, and damn the job. 😡
But yeah, I do think you are right Ski, idiocy is catching if you spend too much time around it! :negative:

Personally, I’d like to beat her til she felt that amount of pain, then watch her die. 👿

I read this post 4 or 5 times, and decided I could not pass this up without commenting. I too am an avid pet lover, and beyond that I’m a registered vet tech. Stories like this turn my stomach. What she did is considered animal abuse, and is punishable by law in most states. The problem is that there is no way to prove that she was a negligent pet owner now that the cat has passed on. I don’t think I could continue to associate myself with her if I were you. I would let her know how you feel, and tell her that not getting immediate professional assistance for an animal who is that severely injured is illegal. She needs to NOT ever have another pet again. I’m not nice to people like this, so I apologize for the defensive attitude.

          This just makes me fume….

I know and I didn’t mean to make people mad, but I just couldn’t keep my anger bottled up about it. There have been a few occassions I have felt horrible about the care I have given my own pets and it’s just things like being at work for 12 hours and not being able to let them out to do their business or when I stupidly used Harts flea medication on my cat instead of springing for Advantage and then my cat had a seizure. I felt horrible for weeks, but I IMMEDIATELY bring my animals to the vet if there is any problem. I’m STILL paying on Bubbas 5 thousand dollar vet bill from when he was at Bridgewater Emergency 4-5 years ago. He’s past drinking age now so I must be doing something right 😀

But seriously… I’m still disturbed over her remarks.

I wasn’t upset with you, I swear! lol. I really fail at communicating in text when I’m angry, so if it came off that way, I apologize.

Tell her that for idiots, there’s no amount of money that will get a taxidermist to preserve the memory of a pet for them. They don’t deserve it.

            😥

That’s terrible! And yes, this is why my cats are indoors only… that and because there are always creeps out there who think it’s ok to kick or throw things at outdoor cats.

I once happened upon a cat flailing in the street. It had been hit, and I stayed with it… had never even seen that cat before, but I still cried like crazy.

I don’t understand how anyone can be so callous towards animals, ESPECIALLY their own pets! If they care so little for them, why do they have them at all?

Oh no, I didn’t want to come off like I thought you were mad at me. I didn’t think that, but I felt a little guilty after thinking about it because since I aired this all out… by sharing it with other people, to only make them feel as disgusted as I did when I heard it.

Maybe this will make you feel a little better:

Last fall, as I was walking my dog, I saw a kitten get grazed by a car. She wasn’t run over, but I did hear a loud knock and a cry. So I walked over fearing the worst, but she was still alive. Her bowels had loosened, and she was just lying there panting heavily, but there was no blood.

This was a half feral kitten, part of a litter of 4 who, along with their mother, were fed by a few people in the neighborhood. Her mother and 3 siblings were hanging around on the other side of the street, waiting to see what I would do. As it was, the kitten was too shocky to run away, and I was pretty sure that if I left her there she would die either of shock or hypothermia (it was late fall).

So I took off my coat wrapped her in it and took her to my vet who was, luckily, only two blocks over.

The vet looked her over, manipulated all of her limbs, her neck and her back; he checked her all over, seeing how she reacted to pressure and various manipulations. Verdict was she was probably okay but there was really no way to see if she had internal damage without some pretty expensive X-Rays. He gave her some painkillers, told me to bring her home, keep her warm and not to feed her anything. If she survived the night she would be all right, and if she didn’t at least she wouldn’t be in any pain and she would be warm.

Well, she went on to survive the night and I eventually found her a home with some friends of mine. They named her Lily and made a housecat out of her. Although maybe hellcat 😉 might be closer to the truth as she is a very active kitten and likes to get into all sorts of trouble. But her little mistress loves her with all her heart!

I’m with everyone else–I’m mad but at that idiot of a coworker you have! If that happened to one of my pets, I’d be taking my baby to the emergency clinic–screw the reservations or whatever plans I had for the moment! And if it was best to put the animal down, then the suffering has ended. It is the humane thing to do! Obviously, your coworker is a heartless moron! And she has a job!!!!! 🙄 Crap!

The less you have to do with this person, the better. Hmmmm….how much do you think it would cost to get a coworker stuffed???? 😡

She sounds like a pretty heartless individual. I’ve known people who don’t show much empathy for other human beings but whose pets mean the world to them. How someone can let an animal die in pain or even just slowly die for the sake of not being bothered to go to a vet and get it euthanised, really boggles the mind.

I had a chinchilla who suddenly became paralysed from the middle down at 7pm one evening (suspected spinal tumour) and you can bet I wasn’t going to let him writhe about in confusion and possibly pain for twelve hours, so I drove out to the emergency vet which took over an hour. I was glad I could end his suffering that evening, I couldn’t imagine just leaving an animal to die.

It’s sad that there are some people who don’t seem to care. Having to work with one must really take the biscuit.
