Sorry to here about your accident DM. I’m glad that you and the other driver are ok. I’m sorry for all your other losses as well. That’s sad.
It’s been raining here all morning long and I’m not driving in cuz most people back here decide to fly down the road when it rains and go 10 miles an hour UNDER the speed limit when it’s not. Driving in rain at night is horrible. There’s a lot of silly people back here that decide to drive in the middle of the road to avoid going off the road only to cause head on collisions because they end up hydroplaning when they go to swerve to get back in there own lane when another car comes along.
At least you are ok. πŸ™‚

I’m thinking about putting all my Windstone dragons in there…but I’m not sure about the weight.

Most curios are designed to hold knick-knacks, not bricks. The glass is likely to be annealed glass, which is weak compared to tempered glass (some curios have annealed glass shelving, and tempered glass doors). You could try wrapping an actual brick in cloth and carefully placing it on a shelf while you look to see if the shelf sags under the weight. If it doesn’t sag at all, you are probably OK. I’d expect it to sag, though.

Assuming the brackets are strong enough (take the glass out and try pushing down on a bracket to see if it is likely to bend under any serious weight), the best thing to do is go to a glass supplier and buy thicker shelving, or shelving made of tougher glass. Ask for their advice – they’ll know what you need.

I have no idea of the cost of this, though – the glass shelves I have sag under their own weight, so I just keep knick-knacks on them and use wooden shelving for Windstones.

I don’t have a clue what kind of glass is used in this thing. The only thing I can tell is that the doors a much thinner than the actual shelves. I don’t know how much it was (got it as an b-day present from the in-laws) if that could give me a better estimate of what type of glass is used. One was broken upon arrival though!
I have a lot of things crammed in there right now but these dragons don’t weigh that much at all so I’m able to fit about 6 of them on one shelf. All of my windstones are on wooden shelves right now.

It depends on a lot of factors like many have said. I have glass shelves (see below).

They are tempered glass and relatively square. I didn’t feel comfortable putting my large wizard with dragons on the same shelf, but several males and females didn’t seem to hurt.

It will also depend on if you have more rectangular shelves and how they are held in place. Mine are supported from underneath by rubber stoppers, but if yours are held in place with pins that hold the glass on the edge then I would recommend less weight.

Also, the earthquake putty DM recommended works well, especially for smaller Windstones that have a tendency to get knocked over when dusting. Just don’t use the clear gel – it can be messy.

If you need links to order it on the internet, let me know.

Yeah my shelves are more rectangular, but I think what holds them up sound a lot like yours…although I’m not sure if they are rubber. Might be. But the glass looks to be as thick as yours are. So I’m guessing it will be safe for a few on one shelf like yours are. Nice display by the way!!

Did you have to assemble your curio? In your instructions it should tell you how much weight the shelves can hold. Mine is mostly glass and the shelves only hold 5kgs. About 11 lbs.

I can’t put much in there. My OW is in a case by itself. My heavier pieces are on the wooden bottom, and the middle shelf. The middle shelf has wood around the glass shelf.

The worst part of my curio is the door. It’s on the side! It’s flimsy because of that. (I didn’t know that when I got it, if I knew I wouldn’t have bought it.)

no, the only thing I had to do was put the selves in. In the middle of the curio it has like a wooden border (?) that holds up that shelve instead of the pins, so i could probably put the emp or ow on that one. My curio has glass doors on both sides too..it’s a pain to get in and out of cuz the only space I had room for it was in the corner of the den…small apartment, πŸ˜†

It surely sounds perfect for living in earthquake country. Nothing like that happens here…in fact nothing happens here, so I don’t think I’ll be needing any of it. Would you recommend or do you know of how to maybe reinforce the things that hold up the shelves? πŸ˜† I know it sounds silly but I’m just afraid of them falling on each other.

he’s on a diet recommended by the vet cuz he’s sooo over weight for being the runt of the litter…he weighs close to 23 lbs. I want him to stay around for a while so I’m forced to feed him once a day now… πŸ™ πŸ˜† I feel for him but doctors orders.

Ha Ha…silly cats. Tell me about them being smart…my cat has discovered how to knock over the rather large and heavy container that his food stays in…I’ve had to move three times cuz he’s so darn sneaky. Once in the closet with sliding doors..that didn’t work out well cuz almost every morning I’d here him pull the doors open. Once outta the kitchen cabinet cuz he learned how to pull that open…and now it stays in the spare bedroom with the door shut!!!

Silly internet..(sorry having issues today)…Since I have glass shelves in the curio should I keep my larger dragons ( OW and EMP ) out of the curio and just put the others in? They are all currently on wooden book shelves but my cat is loosing a lot of weight and he’s starting to get a bit bolder. πŸ™‚
I’m just worried that he may knock them down cuz he’s still rather fat. That and the dust in this place seems to have multiplied somehow…I dust them constantly and it’s never enough. I’m concerned even putting the male and mother dragons in there cuz the things that hold the shelves up are these small silly looking plastic things I guess. They look kind of like the ones you can see in pictures that you guys/girls post of your collections…but I’m just worried about them that’s all.
    DM, earthquake putty??

So I’m planning on taking everything out of my curio this weekend to give it a good dusting and I’m thinking about putting all my Windstone dragons in there…but I’m not sure about the weight. It’s a cherry (?) curio with glass shelves. Do you guys/girls think it will hold them?? I’m just paranoid about putting them all in there…clearly I’d have to spread them out a bit but I’m just not sure! πŸ˜• Is it safe? Help me out here! πŸ˜†
