Sorry… I meant the color of clay, not that the dragon looked like clay. I think I can see colors on the wings… red, blue, and yellow? Is that so? It is hard to tell. I do think it looks cool, but it didn’t look gold.

hmmm- there is no red blue or yellow on this dragon– are you sure your looking at the right pic? I wonder if it is your monitor!!

From my computer it looks like it needs more details. I can see what Ski was saying…it might be the color that reminds her of clay.

yup- it probably will once the patina is finished. But I have to let that dry fully before I can go in and add all the detailing. The gold and copper are very close in color and only add a hint of shading–
it is still a work in progress!

H elooks like clay. I dont know if its my monitor or not. I can see the patina, though. Cool!

hmm well I guess that would be bad! As with any PYO picures don’t really give the details– plus I just snapped them quick to post… I’ll have better pics later– plus once he is sealed he will look quite a bit different.

it was mainly to see if you liked the idea or not… I’m not doing so hot lately with my pyos huh? First my pics are crap (its my fault too– I just have to practice!) and now this one looks like clay! lol- *sigh* oh well– in real life he is an antique gold– NOT clay hehehe

He has 2 shades of gold (antique gold and gold) plus copper- then I used a “secret technique” haha
to give the dragon an aged patina of sorts.

I have to let it sit a bit longer. Then I may need do some detailing– if needed. I will be doing one of each of the PYO’s this way– if you guys actually like it.
The technique gives the paint a look sorta like it has been sitting out in the rain uncared for– but it is completely intentional.
    Do we like?

in reply to: My first pyo Kirin– oooohhhh 🙂 AUCTION ends today! #537890

well thank you soooooo much! I am blushing– and it makes me smile knowing someone loves the story! It adds to the work of completing the piece but I like writing so its not so bad 😉
These scultps just seem to scream out personality. Each pyo is a little different looking but when I paint I sorta imagine what this particular dragon/kirin etc is thinking/doing– I know I must sound like a nut but they seem almost alive– all the praise goes to Melody for her amazing ability to make stone look alive!
Anyway- thanks for the compliments again– sometimes when I am trying to write up the story I feel maybe no one will care about that part and so why am I going to the trouble of writing something– it is nice to know you appreciate the work- thanks again for the encouragment!

thanks– I just couldn’t get the pictures to show all the colors right at the same time… the green would look nice but the brown would look dull etc etc
The gold leaf is another hard thing to capture because it tends to glare– I will get some batteries today and work on pics

I can’t wait to paint more- muhahahahahah
oh- ahem- sorry- its too early in the morning for me 🙂

awe thanks for the compliment! I got a couple more pictures before my camera died- ugh! I put the listing up and added the new pics– hopefully they will do– the pictures look great on my computer– so i’m not sure why they aren’t looking good to you guys– but I totally believe you and will work on my pics!
    thanks

ok- heres a couple pics 🙂

    (pics deleted)

He comes with the stones and the little box/display– and yes that is gold and multi color leaf! Boy what a pain! Let me know what you guys think!

I am finishing him up right now– well he is finished I am just waiting for the sealer to dry!
I will be listing him on ebay later tonight.

I will post a pic in a little while- he is green with a touch of purple- mane and tail are brown– and I also tried out some gold leaf– I think he came out unique!

I know this first post is a total tease 😉 I promise pics soon!

I love the kirin– I think I will be concentrating my PYO painting to kirins and dragons– I just love them!

in reply to: How do you guys get the beautiful colors?? #537770

I do about half and half- some I mix myself and some I use outright– a tip is to pick two main colors and then use those colors to mix your other hughes– mix in other colors til you find one you like– since one of the colors was the base they *should* compliment eachother.

ps wait til the craft store is having a sale on paint– and everytime you go in check for clearance stuff– I just bought a bunch of metalic for like $.50 a bottle on clearance.

in reply to: What to do with a PYO you hate?? #537783

there must be a way to remove the paint– is it in really think layers?
I would probably figure out a new paint sceme– and paint the entire thing in the main color of the new theme.
you should post a pic- then we can give you advice– maybe it isn’t as bad as you think and only parts will need a repaint.

in reply to: What's Your Inspiration? #537739

I guess I have always had a nack for coloring–

ideas– well usually I just think about the eye color and an idea will start to form as to what I want to do. Listen to that inner artistic voice– if you are new to tapping into it you will have to pay attention 🙂 after a while you will just know what you want to paint– but it is not a definate thing… no one has great ideas all the time!

if you are unsure where to paint what, try taking a pencil and lightly penciling around the areas and figuring out what color you want where… oh and pick like two main colors to start with and then vary the the shades instead of using too many colors at first. You can always add touches of a thrid color at the end.
