Vantid, good to hear from you! Glad you’re having fun. Neat pictures!
Arlla, those are great pumpkins!
foxfeather wrote:Just curious, what do people use to carve their pumpkins? I’ve used a steak knife and and exacto knife. I’ve tried those Pumpkin carving kits but find the blades are to soft and flexible and I always destroy them.
I use an exacto knife and a very thin jigsaw type blade for most of the carving. To cut the hole in the top I use a much bigger knifelike blade.
What beautiful photos! Looks like you had a gorgeous day. Thanks for sharing!
Very cute!
mmloda and Ski, thanks for the compliments! π

lamortefille wrote:Did you ever get your glass pumpkins at the studio? I might have missed those as well. π
I did visit the studio last weekend as planned, but unfortunately I wasn’t able to find the colors/sizes/shapes that I was looking for. It looks like they had already sold off all of the ones that I liked at the pumpkin festival! π That’s OK though…I’m going to look around at some of the local stores that carry those pumpkins, and it’ll be a good opportunity to see what other pumpkins/squash that they make — I think only a small portion of of their stuff was displayed at the pumpkin festival. And there’s always the pumpkin festival next year. π
By the way, the visit to the studio was fun nevertheless. They had a lot of neat stuff on display which wasn’t at the pumpkin festival (vases, etc.) and their garden, which had a lot of pumpkins/squash stashed among the plants, was really pretty. The glass blowing was fun to watch also. If you’re interested, here’s a TV report that ABC did last Thursday. The video shows a lot of the stuff that I saw during my visit — the glass blowing and the garden — and they interview Molly Stone as well.

Thanks guys! π I think I probably won’t do one this year…but I might do some next year! π
Melody wrote:They are supposed to match the male griffin. But for me to be sure about that, I will need to look at one. I don’t have one here at the moment… but I will try to remember to check and let you know.
Thanks!
I was wondering about that too!
One other related question — you had mentioned that the store photo was of the paint sample, and in that photo the female griffin has yellow feet:
but from people’s photos so far it looks like the feet of the female griffin and chicks are kind of a brownish orange color.
I was wondering if the feet of the next back of female griffins can be yellow like the store photo? Then her feet would match those of the male griffin. π
Star, those are great Halloween decorations!
In recent years we’ve only been passing out candy on Halloween. Our neighborhood has lots of kids, and we usually get ~60 people coming by. We haven’t been dressing up for the last few years…this picture is from the last time that we did:
I haven’t been doing pumpkin carving recently either, but a number of years ago I was really into it and did 5 each year. One year I even did a pumpkin for Thanksgiving! Here are some photos:
Some closeups of the last picture:
The turkey that I did one year:
And some pictures from this year’s local pumpkin festival that I wanted to share:
“Farmer Mike” is an amazing pumpkin carver and it was really neat to watch him carving. I thought that the glass pumpkins from Cohn/Stone Studios were really beautiful.

π― you don’t like the emperor?!
GUARDS TAKE HER AWAY! Blasphemy!
how come you don’t like him?
π I love the color scheme. I just don’t like the sculpt. The head is too long, the wings are too small, and the whole pose just seems unnatural.
I’ll scurry away now to avoid your wrath. π
My thoughts exactly. I don’t like the emperor sculpt either for those reasons, but I do love Nam’s color schemes for them.I’d definitely go for a color scheme like this or the Neptune emperor’s on an OW!
Tintaglia wrote:mimitrek wrote:Hey, it looks like they have Big Valley DVD’s on Amazon…
They only have seasons 1 & 2. Does anyone know if seasons 3 & 4 were ever put on DVD?

Looks like all 4 seasons are available on DVD, but I haven’t found season 3 or 4 available separately. There’s also a photo of the cast and a show description for those that don’t remember the show.
Thanks! Do you have any idea what the quality of those DVD’s is? I noticed that its not an official release from Fox, so I’m wondering if its a compilation of shows that was recorded from TV and put on DVD.π π π
