Thank you! She’s quickly become one of my favorites.
Aaaaand she’s done!
This is my newest finished piece, Candy-Corn! She’s a saccharine-sweet mix of white, pink, purple, blue, and teal, with honey-yellow eyes. Working on this sweetheart was a real treat.
She also has a case of anger-face when you look at her head-on. I think she learned it from Solstice.
Thank you Suzanne-Marie!:)
Ela_Hara – I originally picked it out as something different to try and was really surprised at how nice it was when I had it in-hand. Sadly they don’t seem very photogenic, at least as far as the store photo is concerned.
I’ve come up with some ideas for a couple more Kitty Griffins; just gotta chip away at some of my unfinished art projects first before I can buy em.Thank you everyone! I’m glad you like this bright little guy!
Scarletdrite, I just paint these for myself. I’ve given some of my old ones to friends, but the rest are either in my room or on my big display cabinet.
pipsxlch, I’ve noticed the kittygriffins don’t seem to be too popular even though they’re very cute irl (and nicely palm-sized).
A bit belated but thank you!^^
This is the newest piece I’ve finished, named Cheering.
He was originally going to have cheetah spots on his body, but I loved the solid blue so much I decided to keep it as-is. The only cheetah-based marks I kept were the lines at his muzzle.
Cheering = Cheetah + SpringThank you! He’s one of my top favorite pieces, up there with his red-and-gold cousin and Depths the hippocampus.
Finally done with this guy!
This is Ruby Royalty! The upper part of his body has irregular flake gold glitter on it and the spine scales have a layer of temperature-based color change paint on them. I had originally planned on giving him a nice garnet orb to hold, but it ended up being too big for his mouth so I went with red chalcedony instead.
Most of the body is coated with high-gloss varnish; I put medium-gloss varnish on the fur, belly scales, and nose since it felt more appropriate for them . There is gold paint on the tail but the red overpowers it in the photos.
I’m really, really happy with how this one came out; give or take for some very minor details and the orb it’s almost exactly how I originally planned it to look.

Setsuna, yours looks like a cotton candy flavored lollipop lol!
Primer isn’t really necessary for these pieces, though I echo the suggestion of giving them a quick wash before painting.
I have a personal airbrush at work I can use on my PYO’s, but I only use it to cover large smooth surfaces or to get a good ombre. Kind of a pain to take apart and clean out anyways.
As for recommended paints, Golden is my most preferred for these pieces. Americana, the premium version of Craftsmart, and Martha Stewart paints have also worked well for me. Liquitex is ok in my opinion… I’ve had mixed results with it.
People have used water colors and stains to paint their PYO’s as well. Oil paint is the only type I know of that isn’t recommended for these figures; I think it’s because it doesn’t allow the gypsum to expand when it gets really warm.
Tight angle brushes are also massively helpful. Not the most common kind of brush but well-worth the investment.
Hope this helps!Thank you you two!:)
Started on a new one over the weekend.
Currently the fur part is done and the flat scales on the arms and legs are partly done (those were painted after the photo was taken).
It looks really messy right now but the body is going to be painted over in black, so this is one of the few times I can safely paint outside the lines.
